There lived a poor but happy family of Mr. and Mrs. White and their lovely boy, Herbert. They enjoyed their life as low income family but they never had any argument or quarrel. Every night Mr. White and his son would sit and play chess. One night, a dark night with rain, they played the chess as usual and at that night Mr. Whites old friend would come and visit him. He was the old friend of Mr. White and that man had been in India for 21 years as a soldier. Mr. Tom Morris arrived and started to talk about their life and family. They enjoyed talking very much and White family was so deep into Mr. Tom Morriss stories in India. They felt gleeful to hear such wonderful and mysterious stories of India. Then, Mr. Tom Morris talked about Monkeys paw, a magic paw that gave 3 wishes for 3 people. He did not want to talk much about that but White family was very curious. As they wanted to know more he agreed to talk more about that paw. He said that the paw is magic, it would give three wishes to three people but those wishes would become an unhappiness. He carried on that his friend who gave this paw to him told him this story and his friend wished a third wish that he wanted to die. Everyone was shock to hear that. They wondered as the White family did not buy that speech.

Mr. Tom Morris also had his wishes but after he wished his wife and son died and at the end he wished to lose all the money. White family seemed to believe in the magic of the paw and they wanted to make a wish to become rich. The White family did not care about the unhappiness things that would happen after the wishes. After a moment of talk, Mr. Tom Morris agreed to give the paw to Mr. White and then they carried on talking about adventure in India.

They listened and asked questions till late night. At late mid night they dismissed and Mr. Tom Morris left. After his departure, the White family sat together and Mr. White took out the

paw and within his right hand he made the first wish. Mr. White wished for money, thirty thousand pound. Nothing happened! But suddenly Mr. White felt that the paw was moving in his hand and dropped to the floor.

After a moment, Ms. White went to sleep so did Herbert. Mr. White stayed alone for a moment and then in the window he saw an old man face and then quickly as it appeared, it disappeared. He went to sleep and in the next morning, Herbert went to work as usual and before he left he asked his mother to keep the money for him if it appeared. Around 1 oclock later while Mr. and Ms. White were having lunch, a well-dressed man appeared in front of their old house and they opened the door and greeted the man. That man came from Maw and Meggins where Herbert worked in machinery section. The strange man continued and Mrs. White face appeared to be white and fearful of something bad. The man said that during the morning time, it was an accident. He carried on that their son, Herbert, suddenly caught by the the machine and a minute later he was in the machinery and everyone in there heard him screamed and ran to him but they could do nothing to help. The man felt sorry for the losing of Herbert and announced that since Herbert was a good worker and had been with Maw and Meggins for six years, now he wanted to help the White family in unhappy time. He then gave Mr. White money and Mr. White asked how much. The man replied Thirty Thousand pounds, they were shock to hear.

The next morning at cemetery they said goodbye to their lovely and only son, Herbert. Mrs. White was so sad since she had to wait for almost her 40 ages to have Herbert but now he had gone and his body was not in one piece too. Fortnight later, Mrs. White missed her son so much and at the cold and dark night she asked her husband where the paw was. She came down stair to look for the paw and then Mr. White woke up and told his wife not to do so. But she did not listen. Mrs. White found the paw and made the second wish wish to see her son back. After she had wished, she heard the noise outside and tried to reach the door. Then Mr. White came down stair before his wife could reach the door and he got the paw and as fast as he could, he made the third wish. When his wife opened the door, outside there were a snow and dark road and no one else were there. They saw nothing and nobody out there!
