Annual Candy Cane Craft Fair Held at the Diamond Bar Center
HOLIDAY: The event had free admission along with free parking. DB4 Youth had a snack bar booth and sold chips, cookies, donuts, drinks, nachos, and pizza. With holiday music playing and colorful crafter displays, shopping for the holidays is made fun. More than 80 vendors exhibited and sold an assortment of hand-made items during the fair. [The Candy Cane Craft Fair] had a wonderful selection of stuff with an amazing price. It was really interesting to see what people can come up with, said Pat Savage, an attendee. There was a variety of merchandise, such as embellished clothing, holiday decorations, jewelry, knitted items, and woodwork.

If Site D became a residential area, about $10 million would be generated in order to help the city, especially after the city lost $19 million last year due to budget cuts.

Prisca Kim Staff Writer The city of Diamond Bar is considering using a 30 acre patch of land at the corner of Diamond Bar Boulevard and Brea Canyon Cutoff, known as Site D, for residential housing and commercial purposes. Currently, the lot belongs to the Walnut Valley Unified School District as a gift received in 1970. Therefore, the land does not belong to the residents of Diamond Bar, but to the district. The Site D plan would be helping the community by allowing more people to move in and expand Diamond Bar. The plan is to use 50 percent of the land for residential development and 50 percent for commercial development. There are 20 net acres of buildable land from the 30 acres of the lot, which only allows 10 acres for residential usage and 10 for commercial usage. For the residential half, the plan includes houses and a small park. Site D would contain [Please see PLAN on page 3]

Selected students started rehearsing early November. Sherratt commented, In rehearsal, we have to sort of hit home with [entertaining] both the younger audiences and older audiences. There was a short preview of the play on Saturday, November 20 during the DBHS Day at Barnes & Noble in Chino Hills. Barnes and Noble Holds Diamond Bar Day Fundraiser

RAISE: The cafe inside the Barnes and Nobles store participated in the fundraiser. If the students said that they were from DBHS, the caf gave a percentage of its profits to DBHS. Eric Lee Business Manager Diamond Bar High School held its second annual Diamond Bar Day at Barnes and Noble at The Shoppes in Chino Hills, on Saturday, November 20, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The purpose of this fundraiser was to raise enough money to cover for the budget cuts imposed by the state of California on schools. Due to the budget cuts, DBHS lacked the money to buy textbooks and novels required by school curriculums. The percentage of the profit that will be given to DBHS varies according to the amount of total money earned by Barnes & Noble. This year, 20 percent will go towards DBHS in the amount of over $2,000. "The district only has a certain amount of money and they give Diamond Bar a portion of it. Well with the Barnes and Noble thing, what we do is with the money we earn there, we buy the core novels that classes need so that students don't have to buy them if they don't want to, stated DBHS Library Media Technician Pam Hunter. The fundraiser hosted various events to entertain the attendees. The events were separated into two categories: events that took place inside of the store and outside of the store. Inside, the entertainment began with members of Advanced Drama performing a portion of this year's children's theater. Next, Cinderella Around

The Diamond Bar High School Brahma Foundation hosted its 4th annual Performing Arts Showcase at the Royal Vista Golf Club on Friday, November 19, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. The showcase honored former DBHS principal Denis Paul and raised money for the Performing Arts Program at DBHS. Denis Paul has been a tremendous supporter of the arts. It was his vision that helped us set up the program we have now, stated band director Steve Acciani. The Performing Arts Showcase featured entertainment by the performing arts program at DBHS, including performers from the drama department, soloists from the Taurian Dance Company, the All Male Dance Crew, and the Symphony Orchestra. The Circle of Friends Handbell Choir, which includes several students from DBHS, also performed at the event. The focus of the event were soloists such as juniors Shawn Wright

The trio...Members of DBHS s advanced coed choir perform during the dinner to entertain guests. Laura Moffitt and Johnny Wang. I am glad to [have performed] at this event, especially because it is in honor of Denis Paul, commented Wang. A silent auction was held during the dinner as a part of the showcase fundraiser. On sale were items such as DBHS parking spots and private performances by DBHS student groups. Tickets could be purchased from DBHS secretary Susan Craig at the front office and through email. They were also sold by students in the performing arts program. Notable attendees included members of the school board, Jack and Wanda Tanaka, and Denis Paul. Attendees were asked to dress in formal business attire as part of the dress code for the event. Acciani commented, We are very fortunate here at Diamond Bar to have a committee that supports and recognizes the talent at this school.

the World Story Time took place followed by a Marquis performance. Cinderella Around the World Story Time was carried out by Intermediate Drama, and they read different Cinderella stories from all over the world. The purpose of the storytelling was to give global understanding to the young children. Orchestra concluded the entertainment inside the store. Outside the store, DBHS Solitaire was the first to perform followed by the band Excuse My French performed. Due to rain, several performances were canceled and the sale was extended and lasted throughout the Thanksgiving weekend. Magic of Snow on the Promenade, which was supposed to be an entertainment using bubbles or a snow machine, and Santa on the Promenade were called off. Furthermore, the Taurian Dance Company and All Male Dance Crew could not perform. Hunter explained, Rain did make a difference. We couldnt do all the things we wanted to do. Attendees who purchased books were able to stop by the gift wrapping table and, for any donation, the purchases were professionally wrapped. The gift wrapping was available from 10:30 a.m. to 12 a.m, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m, and from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The cafe inside the Barnes and Noble store also participated in the fundraiser. If the students mentioned that they were from DBHS, the caf gave a certain percentage of its profits to DBHS. Hunter commented, The district and DBHS are trying to be fair and be a family. We want to make sure that our students education doesnt stop.

Peer Counseling Promotes Sobriety During Lunch

AWARENESS: Both days had activities such as braceletmaking, a make-your-ownbumper-sticker contest, and a true or false exam that tested students on underage drinking. Diana Romero Asst. Photo Editor Diamond Bar High Schools Peer Counseling held lunch time activities for a two-day event, Think Beyond the Drink, in the DBHS upper quad on Thursday, November 4, and Friday, November 5. Think Beyond the Drink brought awareness of underage drinking to DBHS. Peer Counseling advisor Sandra Davis Stated, Im hoping that the students finally realize that underage drinking and alcoholism is a reality that we must face and is something that is a major issue on every campus, stated Peer Counseling advisor Sandra Davis. The first day of the event featured guest speakers from Alcoholics Anonymous, a graveyard that had pictures of various car accidents cause by drunk driving, and posterboard promoting drinking awareness. All dancers who participated in the concert had to form their own group and come up with their own choreography to a song of their choice. Students started rehearsing for this event since September. I'm very proud of the students and their efforts. Continued from page 1 PLAN: Site D was a gift. approximately 200 new homes, which would benefit the citys economy. If Site D became a residential area, about $10 million would result in order to help the city of Diamond Bar, especially after the city lost $19 million last year due to budget cuts. City officials are considering using the money from the sales of the homes for technology upgrades at the schools in WVUSD. Most of the schools were unable to update their technology last year because of budget cuts, and the money for the houses would be able to fill those gaps. The majority of the city believes that the sale of this lot will help improve the citys economy. Many residents who oppose the plan for site D would like to keep the empty land as it is in order to preserve what the city has left of Diamond Bars ranch lifestyle. People argue that using Site D for commercial purposes will worsen the traffic at the already busy intersection. The plan for Site D would help Diamond Bars economy, population, and schools. It could, however, damage a piece of Diamond Bars lifestyle As of now, the commercial area is said to be developed in five to seven years. The topic was further discussed at the city council meeting on December 7 and at subsequent follow-up meetings.

THE BULLS EYE

Editorial

Room for One

Nikki Ongpoy Editorial Cartoonist Vice President Joe Biden stirred up controversy with his remarks regarding the overpopulation in America. Recently, staggering increases in population have begun to take a toll on the environment. China is especially well known for enforcing a policy that allows one child per family, and Biden says that he fully understands its reasoning for the restriction. Despite the sensitivity of this topic, Biden ventures further to suggest that the United States can somehow, act in a way on [the] problem thats much less severe than [Chinas], and maybe learn together from how we can do that. With this simple proclamation, Biden has deeply upset Americans with lack of regard about a policy that would result in limiting the rights of people and distorting the very definition of a family. Not only does he fail to realize the negative effects of allowing one child per family, but his statement is threatening to our civil liberties. Before condoning a policy like this, Biden has to realize the effects it would have in an American setting. Although he suggests that a less severe alternative to Chinas communist system might be understandable, one would still have to put a firm grip on abortions and sterilizations to control the population level. Mothers would not have the option of having more than one child; giving birth to a second would mean paying the price for breaking the law. Biden is condoning a government where parents are limited from having the choice of both a daughter and a son. In an era where freedom should reign, America needs to remain liberated from such oppressive ideas and reject Bidens attitude towards a surpresive government entirely. The government should never be allowed to put a handlebar on a mothers decision to have more than one child. Albeit the absurdity of Bidens comments, overpopulation still remains a large concern. Chinas policy has succeeded in preventing nearly 400 million births in the last three decades. Through strict enforcement and propaganda, this policy was able to succeed. However, there are still some regions in China where two children are allowed, depending on the circumstance. There are still plenty of other families in China who are granted opportunities to raise more than one child. Thus, Chinas own exceptions to the one-child policy should be noted before Bidens compromising mindset finds a place in Americas policies. Our countrys years of exercised freedom provide a reference that discourages the restriction of population control, and our liberated rights would never allow the policy to prevail. Placing a heavy restraint on parents who want more than one child diminishes the foundation of a democracy and demoralizes ethical standards of a human family. Despite Bidens concern for lack of resources and carbon dioxide emissions amongst the American people in todays society, strict prohibition is out of the question. Biden should look into other options for population regulation, before even mentioning the one child policy. We may not currently have a solution to the overpopulation in our country, but that does not mean the country should resort to limiting population. Citizens came to this country to escape unjust laws that discourage what should be our natural rights. Demeaning the American dream would only cause a catastrophe; nobody should favor a law that disables a mother from having two children. Biden needs to reconsider his statement and opt for another resolution that does not involve the unfair limitation on human rights.

School Compromises Education for Religion

Xing Yen Quek Asst. Photo Editor Shorter University, a private Christian school, is setting a new requirement that will force all incoming and current staff members to sign a Personal Lifestyle Statement that affirms their abstinence from behaviors prohibited by the Bible, such as, practicing or accepting homosexuality, premarital sex, and adultery. Any employee who refuses to sign this agreement will face unfair termination of their job as a consequence. The loss of ones job can bring devastating effects to his or her livelihood, brutally forcing employees to sign this agreement regardless of what they truly believe. Mandating this statement not only impedes on the rights of the employees, but also wrongfully judges an individual according to his or her beliefs. This unjustified discrimination towards ones personal views should not be implemented, as it does not benefit the schools goal of promoting a better lifestyle through education. As a private school, Shorter University is not funded by the federal government, which leads this university to believe that as an independent and religiously-affiliated institution, it reserves every right to hire only Christian employees that will abide by the universitys rules. Don Dowless, the president of Shorter University, stated that these rules were implemented in order to love and honor Jesus Christ. According to Dowless, agreeing to the policy is a way of showing ones faith to Christ; however, this is not a valid reason for the school to enforce these rules. One should not be obligated to profess the individuals love for Christ by following anothers personal views. Religion should never be used to discriminate against anyone in a work environment, private or public. This intolerance ultimately destroys the open learning environment of the university and makes the school appear to be more of a church rather than a practical educational facility. This form of learning will not provide a better future for the students. Individuals who wish to learn freely will find themselves trapped in an environment of discrimination and injustice. The limitations placed on the employees also prevent them from the pursuit of happiness, a right listed in the United States Constitution. Every U.S. citizen is entitled to the pursuit of happiness; therefore, it is wrong for the university to take away this privilege from the workers. The policy binds them to the preferences of the school and prevents them from expressing their own beliefs. The employees lose their freedom and rights by agreeing to this contract. Furthermore, by enforcing employees to sign the Personal Lifestyle Statement, the school is not only allowing students and staff members to openly judge one another, but they are also creating an enviornment where this becomes the new social standard . While the policy may place limitations on

This intolerance ultimately destroys the open learning environment of the university

certain acts like homosexuality, the university fails to recognize that the establishment of this policy infringes on the rights of the employees, as it encourages both them and the students to blindly judge others. Instead of changing for the betterment of the students, this new addition will only harm the students characters. Besides encroaching on the rights of individuals, the new policy will also diminish the chance for the school to find and provide the best professors for the students. As a result, the school will fail to provide the academic excellence it strives for. This unjust change will benefit neither the employees nor the students. The employees would have to face losing their jobs and the students would have to give up on the good education they rightfully deserve. The Personal Lifestyle Statement denounces the employees rights and alters their current living situation. The university has no right to mandate this policy on all the employees and burden them with a new lifestyle. This new requirement should be recalled in order to prevent further problems for the school and its staff members.

Editorial Follow-Ups
Every issue The Bulls Eye publishes articles regarding topics that are time-sensitive. In order to keep our readers up-to-date on articles published in the Editorial section, The Bulls Eye is including a follow-up on a few select articles. The United States Fights for Libyas Rights On March 20, Asst. Editorial Editor Justin Park asserted his opinion on Americas military intervention in Libya amidst its violent protest against the nations de facto leader Muammar el-Gaddafi. On October 20, Libya was finally liberated from dictatorship as Gaddaffi was captured, beaten, and murdered by a group of rebels near his hometown of Sirte. His death was confirmed as a graphic video depicting his last moments was uploaded online for public viewing. Media Slants Wall Street Protest In the October issue, Feature Theme Editor Ruby Hwang criticized the medias misguiding depiction of the ongoing Occupy Wall Street demonstration. Since its inception, this protest movement against economic and social inequalities has garnered more supporters across the United States. The protesters expanded their locations to over 70 major cities in the U.S., in addition to college campuses including Harvard University. This momentous phenomenon, which has yielded over 4,600 arrests, 100 injuries, and eight deaths so far, is projected to continue for several more weeks. This Is It for Conrad Murray In the last issue published on October 26, Asst. Editorial Editor Justin Park analyzed the accusations surrounding Conrad Murray, the doctor of Michael Jackson convicted of involuntary murdering his patient through irresponsible administration of a lethal drug. The six-week-long legal battle, filled with endless testimonies and deliberations, finally came to a close on November 7, as the 12 jurors of Los Angeles courthouse unanimously declared Murray completely guilty of causing Jacksons premature death. On November 29, the judge sentenced Murray to four years in federal prison, the maximum punishment Murray could receive for his crime. Free Trade FTW Also in the October issue, Asst. News Editor Holly Liu discussed the advantages of establishing a free trade agreement with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea. Ever since the proposal of FTA, the passage of the pact has aroused a vehement response from all nations involved, particularly South Korea. More than 3,000 South Koreans, who claim that implementing new laws as a result of the FTA will deteriorate the economy, gathered in Seoul for a massive candlelight protest on November 5. Police force and water cannons were summoned at the site to combat the uprising violence amongst the demonstrators.

Kardashian Kashes Marriage for Millions

Sarah Cho Asst. A&E Editor In the past month, due to her highly publicized divorce from National Basketball Association player Kris Humphries, Kim Kardashian has unjustly been on the receiving end of some very stiff criticism. The unintelligent masses have erected towers of hate in order to try to spoil Kardashians perfect reputation. This criticism is completely uncalled for as Kardashians marriage was in fact undeniably real. Kardashian did not make money off of her wedding, unless you count the measly $15 million deal with E! to record and broadcast the four hour special, the $1 million deal with People magazine for an exclusive interview, or the other $2 million worth of contracts and discounts. She only made a paltry $18 million, a mere $250,000 a day for each day of marriage. It is really only a modest wedding gift from the media to the couple. After all, it would really only pay for 580 years of average college tuition. Even without the lack of financial motive, no one could doubt Kardashians honesty. After all, she is a true literary genius, an inspiration to us all. Her generous help scripting the episodes of her hit reality television show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians shows her true talent as she makes her vapid family of shallow women seem interesting and genuine. Kardashians success as an E! News correspondent was well earned by her talent of delivering hard news such as groundbreaking fashion trends and tips on organizing closets. She has also found immense success as an actress as shown by her unspeakably beautiful performance, which deserving of our respect and admiration. It is simply incomprehensible why so many would accuse this greatly loved woman of fraud. On the day of her beautifully executed wedding, Kardashian was inarguably in love with Humphries and was undoubtedly willing to spend the rest of her life with him. After all, they had

Her success, though, resulted only after years after years of hardship consisting of lackluster diamond necklaces and dull gold charms. From millions to even more millions, her story is truly inspiring and fit for a Lifetime television movie. She is a role model for millions of little girls everywhere and is truly

known each other for almost a whole year before they decided to marry. Humphries was absolutely perfect for her. Just look at his first name! He is an ideal mate for her when c o n s i d e r i n g K a r d a s h i a n s tendencies to replace all letter Cs with Ks. Humphries can be a part of the family franchise maybe even working with the Kardashian Kollection at Sears. Regardless of all of the

speculation, the real proof is in the marriages lifespan. Kardashians marriage lasted a long time72 days! If the marriage was really a sham, Kardashian would not have waited such a long period of time to file the divorce papers she would have waited a mere 72 hours like all real money grubbers would do. Seventy-two days of marriage in Hollywod is practically a Golden Anniversary; it is the equivalent of a lifetime. Kardashian divorced Humphries because she fell out of love with him. Talk to Me!

would be disgusted to live in my house. So during school lunches, I bought spicy chicken salad and ate the salad while my friends took my chicken and mocked me. Dinners were unfullling salads consisting of lettuce and tomatoes with either apple juice or water. By the time I reached the third day

To test the curiosity of an average Diamond Bar High School student, a daring experiment was made. Someone would walk around school during lunch with a sign that said TALK TO ME, and see who is curious enough to take time out of his or her busy schedule and ask why the sign was being held. This time curiosity will not kill the DBHS student.

As lunch-time approached, I did not know what to expect, but I knew the experiment was not going to be easy. Students would occasionally say,Hi, but no one wanted to ask why I was carrying around such a bizarre sign and actually carry on a lasting conversation. After walking around for what seemed like hours, someone finally wanted to know why I was holding the sign. Two curious girls came up to me and asked,Hi, why do you want to talk to me? We talked for a couple of minutes about my experiment and they were surprised to hear that they were the first to talk to me. Although it took nearly ten minutes of walking around with the sign, the experiment finally yielded some results. I had a little more pep to my step after the successful encounter when a familiar face came along. I was excitedly greeted with the million dollar question. Not only did he ask the golden question, Why are you holding the sign, but he also asked how my day was going. This student was surprisingly interested, unlike the majority of DBHS students. My experiment attracted a couple of curious students. However, that paled in comparison to the hundreds of students that saw me holding the sign. Overall, this experiment yielded grim results as to the curiosity of the average high school student in DBHS.

It is undeniable that the Talk to Me sign brought me more shame than it should have. Sure, although I was not even the one holding the actual sign, just standing around and taking pictures brought me my fair share of embarrassment. On the other hand, Winston, the one who was actually going through experiment seemed not to care about the weird looks people were shooting him. It even seemed like he was enjoying it. After watching Winston carry the sign around for a couple of minutes and be shot down numerous times for a conversation, I began to lose hope. No one was going to talk to him. After what seemed like hours, people began to ask him what was up with his sign. As I watched him speak to the strangers around him, I realized that the experiment was not a complete and utter failure. In that moment, I once again gained faith in the average high school student. Although there is a lot going on, students still do care enough to carry on an actual conversation, even though it is with a stranger. By the end of our little experiment, I no longer felt ashamed to be walking with someone with such an abrupt sign. In fact, I felt quite proud to walk with someone who had the guts to put themselves out there so openly. In my mind all I could do was silently applaud Winston.

Boys Basketball Starts 4-1

Rachel Halpert Asst. Sports Editor Diamond Bar High Schools varsity boys basketball began its 2010-2011 season on Tuesday, November 30 at the Sierra Vista-Baldwin Park High School Annual Winter Tip-Off Tournament. The team finished the tournament in third place with an overall record of 4-1. In the first game, the Brahmas beat Garfield High School 69-67 in overtime to capture the first win of the season. Diamond Bar quickly fell behind at the start of the first quarter. In response, they reduced their turnovers and slowly began their comeback. During the second quarter, Diamond Bar eventually took the lead at 28-27. The game remained close from then on and Diamond Bar led 33-32 at the end of the first half. [Garfield] scored a lot of points early, but we were defensively able to get back and transition, [and] not let them get second and third shots, commented coach Ty Watkins. Through the second half, the Brahmas maintained their solid defense. The strength of the Diamond Bar defense rightfully outshined the inconsistent offense. After three quarters, the score was 50-49 in favor of Garfield. At the beginning of the last quarter of regulation play, senior Michael Lee tied up the score at 52 apiece by making two free throws. But with 30 seconds remaining in the game, junior Frankie Martinez scored to take a momentary lead before Garfield managed to tie at 59 right before the buzzer. The four minutes of overtime seemed to be plagued by more missed three-point shot attempts. However, senior Jonathan Munozs last-minute three-pointer took the lead to win at 69-67. Diamond Bar displayed a good team effort despite illness and injuries plaguing the team. The Brahmas stepped up their defense with a total of 44 rebounds and 13 steals. Lee was the highest scoring and highest rebounding player of the game with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Sophomore Marcus Favela followed with 14 points of his own. [We] want to make sure that every time the guys are on the court, they give 100%, and I think we did that. [They] worked really hard, stated Watkins. They came back with a stronger offense on Wednesday to dominate against Verbum Dei High School. Diamond Bar ended up winning by 40 points, at 71-31. On Thursday, the Brahmas beat Arroyo High School 51-46 to advance to the semi-finals. There, DB faced off against Glendora High School but lost 64-41. The game remained close until the end of the third quarter, during which the Tartans scored 14 uninterrupted points to blow the lead open. Glendora went on to win the entire tournament. After the loss, the Brahmas competed against Covina High School for third place and won, 73-56. I am very proud of the teams accomplishments and I [look] forward to the rest of the season, stated senior captain Jonathan Batin. Starting with a overal record of 4-1, the Brahmas hope to continue their early success as they play Northwood High School today at home.

Winston Cho Staff Writer The Diamond Bar varsity girls basketball team played in the Los Altos Tournament to tip off the season. Although DBHS had its ups and downs, the Lady Brahmas came out with an 11th place finish. Returning seniors Bianca Lee, Ifeorna Kpaduwa, Unique Norward, Daphne Wang, and Nicole Woo led the charge with the latter four being captains. After losing their season opener to La Salle on November 30, the Lady Brahmas came out renewed to beat Azusa High School the following day. After a miserable three quarters of shooting, the team was behind at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but DBHS tightened up its defense and shot better to hold on to a narrow win against the Azusa Aztecs. We played really good defense and held them to 44 points, said McCabe. The team came into Fridays

game against Temple City with momentum but lost in the final seconds. The Lady Brahmas could not capitalize on offense and lost 23-18. After its defeat, Diamond Bar played Nogales the next day, hoping to end the tournament with a 2-2 record. This time, the team played very well on both the offensive and defensive end to win 61-22. The girls basketball team is in a very tough league this year, as Diamond Ranch reached the State Finals the previous season. However, the Brahmas have been doing very well to start the year. [The season has] been good. The team has a great attitude. We play together well, but we need to shoot better, commented McCabe. The Claremont Tournament started yesterday, and the Lady Brahmas hope to continue to do well. Their next game outside of any tournament will be Tuesday, December 21, against Glendora High School.

Athlete of the Month: Sarah Neeley

Ashley Ahn Feature Editor A dedicated varsity soccer player, the current president of the United Student Body, and a well-rounded student are only some characteristics that make senior Sarah Neeley a true role model at Diamond Bar High. She has been playing soccer for 12 years, and she made the varsity team her sophomore year. Neeley plays as an offensive player for the school team. Soccer has taught Neeley how to be committed and determined. I put my whole heart and energy to the game; I leave everything on the field. Any stress or frustrations that I feel I put into those 90 minutes of play, said Neeley. This sport for me is about exerting all of your energy to this one goal, this one thing, and praying for success. Along with her devotion to soccer, Neeley is currently the 2009-2010 USB president, who strives to give back to the students and staff at DBHS. As president, Neeley keeps everything running smoothly, by overseeing activities and events that are put on by commissioners. As her term comes to an end, she is proud of USB for all its hard work, unity, and passion to make DBHS better. [Being president] has been such an unreal experience. It still feels like it should be mid-December and new USB was just getting started. The time has flown by, expressed Neeley. But truthfully, Im still surprised and honored to have been elected to this position. In spite of the large amount of time that Neeley puts into USB and soccer, she is also an officer for the Invisible Children club. Although Neeley has a lot on her plate, she is still able to maintain a 3.9 grade point average while taking difficult classes like Advance Placement Calculus. As for college, Neeley applied to private schools in Utah, Hawaii, and Virginia, as well as some of the University of California schools. Though she is not planning on playing soccer during her freshman year of college, Neeley is interested in majoring in International Relationships and Business, but that may be subjected to change. I have so many interests that deciding my major is going to be difficult, says Neeley, but no matter what I do, Im excited for whats ahead. Regardless of what Neeley chooses to be in the future, her passion and love for what she does will take her a long way. Although her time at DBHS is counting down, she will always be striving for nothing more than the best.

Rough Start

Laura Moffitt Asst. Feature Theme Editor Diamond Bar High Schools varsity girls soccer faced off against the Glendora Tartans on Thursday December 2. It was an aggressive game that ended in a loss for the Brahmas, with a final score of 3-1. The match started off slow. Glendora scored off a penalty kick midway through the first half. The next goal scored was at the beginning of the second half when the Tartans put the ball in the net after a corner kick. The second kick was a big turning point for the game, the first goal was a bad PK call, but the second put us away, said Diamond Bars new coach Matt Brummet. Shortly after Glendora scored, sophomore Brahma Iris Yam made a goal for the Brahmas, bringing the score to 2-1. Finally, in the last five minutes of the game, Glendora slipped past Diamond Bars

defense and made another goal, making final score at 3-1. Junior captain Stevie Thomas commented, [During the game] we worked really hard and put all our effort in. All of our training really paid off. In the end, even though we lost, we had the winning attitude. The teams major strength is its experience. We returned 19 players from last years squad [giving them a lot of experience]. The girls determination has been second to none compared to the previous teams I have coached, commented Brummet. The team hopes to improve its game awareness, small mistakes, marking, and corner kicks throughout the season. Additionally, the team is constantly working on a new formation, which will require a lot of work. The team will play again during a home game on Thursday, December 9 against Claremont High School.
