Any fish outside of the slot limit as designated by Saltwater Classic officials will not be weighed. 2. Minimum qualifying lengths are measured as total length. Total length means the straight line distance from the most forward point of the head with the mouth closed, to the farthest tip of the tail, with the tail pinched (in accordance with FWC rules) except those noted as FORK, which are measured to the middle of the fork of the tail. * SLOT is defined as overall length to the farthest tip of the tail with the tail pinched no shorter than 20 and no longer than 26. Fish not meeting this standard will be ineligible for the tournament. 3. Fish must have been caught personally by the registered entrant who is credited with the catch in tournament scoring, using legal methods as defined in Section J, during legal hours of tournament fishing as defined in Section K. 4. The Tournament reserves the right to amend the lengths and/or remove any fish from competition, without notice, at any time in order to comply with federal and/or state requirements. G. SCORING: 1. Scoring by weight: All scoring in the tournament is based on the weight of single fish entered by registered anglers in any of the eligible species categories for their division. 2. Single category: Individual anglers or teams may hold only one place at a time in a single category. 3. Subsequent Entries: Individual anglers or teams may improve their standing in a given category with subsequent entry of larger fish at any time before the close of the tournament. 4. Official Weigh Stations: All fish to be considered for scoring must be weighed on an official scale at an Official Weigh Station. 5. Masters Division Boat Team Scoring: The scoring system for this division determines a single list of winning boat teams, from first to fourth place in the Masters Division. Points are awarded for the five heaviest qualifying fish in each species category as follows: 1st -100 POINTS 2nd - 80 POINTS 3rd - 75 POINTS 4th - 63 POINTS 5th - 51 POINTS A team may hold only one place at a time in a species category, as determined by the heaviest qualifying fish posted by member of that team. The sum of points accumulated for placements in the various categories determines the final overall standing of the team. Ties are broken by a formula based on the weight of the teams scored fish in comparison to the average weight of all fish placing in the applicable category(ies). 6. Recreational Division Individual Scoring: The scoring system for this division determines individual winners in each species category and a single overall winner of the tournament Grand Prize. The five heaviest qualifying fish in that category determine category winners. Category ties are resolved by evenly splitting the combined placement prize amounts among the tied contestants. Points are awarded for a placement in each category as follows: 1st - 100 POINTS 2nd - 80 POINTS 3rd - 75 POINTS 4th - 63 POINTS 5th - 51 POINTS The sum of points accumulated for placing in the various categories determines the overall Grand Prize winner. A tie for the Grand Prize winner is broken by a formula based on the weight of the individuals scored fish in comparison to the average weight of all fish placing in the applicable category(ies). 7. Junior Division Scoring: The scoring system for the Junior Division determines winners in each species category. The five heaviest qualifying fish in that category determine category winners. Category ties are resolved by evenly splitting the combined placement prize amounts among the tied contestants. 8. Team Challenge Scoring: The scoring system for the Recreational Team Challenge determines a single winning team. Team members qualifying fish are entered in the name of the team. A team may hold only one place at a time in a species category, as determined by the heaviest qualifying fish posted by a member of that team. Points are awarded and accumulated by teams in the manner described above. Scoring of team fish is independent of any placement and points that the same fish may earn in the Recreational Division. Teams entered by the same sponsor may not contribute to one anothers scores. H. PRIZES: 1. Masters Division: Cash prizes are paid to the captains or sponsors of boat teams which place first through fourth place overall. The Board of Directors of the Organization for Artificial Reefs would like to welcome you to the 23rd annual Big Bend Saltwater Classic. We want to thank all of the tournament sponsors and anglers who are participating this year. We also want to thank the tournament Board of Directors and all of the volunteers who help run the largest and longest running fishing tournament of its kind in this region of Florida. The mission of OAR is to enhance recreational fishing and diving opportunities in local marine waters through the professional development of public artificial reefs. Since 1986, OAR has deployed or improved over 30 artificial reefs in our local marine waters. The Big Bend Saltwater Classic fishing tournament was created by OAR to help fund this artificial reef development. Many of the reefs constructed by OAR were built from proceeds provided by the tournament. As of this writing, OAR volunteers are working on the construction of Robbys Reef. This reef was created with proceeds donated through private fundraising efforts in memory of Robby Redding. The Redding family has worked with OAR over the past three years and raised over $30,000 for construction of this reef. The reef consists of fifteen prefabricated artificial reef modules, fifteen concrete culvert pipes, and one very unique steel sculpture that could be described as a cross between a crab and an excavator tractor. Bettinger Welding of Tallahassee built Crabtor from scrap steel and added cutout designs with the help of a plasma torch. OAR divers will be taking underwater video of the deployment and verifying reef coordinates for release to the public. The Organization for Artificial Reefs, Inc is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit company. We are always open to new members who would like to become active in the mission of OAR. For more information on becoming a member or to make a tax-deductible contribution, please contact OAR at (850) 656-2114 or OAR@ OARReefs.org.
