Our plan to grow Australias economy


A strong and growing economy is central to creating secure jobs and providing the certainty all Australians need to plan for the future with confidence. The Coalition has a real plan for economic growth to lift living standards, provide the best possible services and infrastructure, and create the opportunity for all Australians to get ahead.

A Strong economy
The Coalition will: Build a Bigger and stronger Five-Pillar Pro-growth economy based around a strong manufacturing industry, a growing knowledge economy and a sophisticated services sector, as well as world leading resources and agricultural industries. aBolish the worlds Biggest carBon tax, which will damage our national economy, destroy jobs and increase the price of everything. Build the roads and inFrastructure that Australia desperately needs to grow our economy and unclog our cities, including getting more private funding into high priority infrastructure projects. start rePaying laBors record national deBt. Labor and the Greens are increasing Australias credit limit by $50 billion to $300 billion. Repaying Labors debt will allow us to deliver better infrastructure and services and lower taxes. aBolish the mining tax to encourage more investment in Australia to grow the economy and create more jobs. return staBle and accountaBle government so all Australians and businesses can once again plan for the future with confidence.

Reducing cost of living pressures


The Coalition will:
abolish the carbon tax as the first priority of a Coalition Government to reduce cost of living pressures which are soaring under Labor. take pressure off interest rates by returning the Federal Budget to surplus and repaying Labors debt. ensure access to affordable, world class health care for all Australians when they need it most by protecting Australians public health benefits and restoring the private health insurance rebate as soon as practical. work to make child care more accessible, flexible and affordable for Australian families, starting with a Productivity Commission review to consider ways that high quality child care can be delivered more flexibly.

Improving frontline services


The Coalition will:
improve the quality of local public schools and hospitals by working closely with the states to put local people in charge. Ensure people living with disabilities and their families get the support they need through a national disability insurance scheme (ndis). Invest over $2 billion to support australians with a mental illness, including an additional 60 headspace sites. revive the teaching of foreign languages in australian schools, to ensure that at least 40% of Year 12 students are once more taking a language other than English within a decade.

Supporting small business


The Coalition will:
reduce the cost of doing business and support job creation by rescinding Labors Carbon Tax a tax that will export jobs and taxpayer funds overseas. give small business operators more time to focus on growing their business by cutting red tape and reducing their regulatory burden by at least $1 billion a year. simplify the administration of compulsory employee superannuation contributions by allowing small businesses to remit their contribution in one payment directly to the ATO with their PAYG payments.

Securing our borders


The Coalition will:
secure our borders to stop the arrival of illegal boats. Weve done it before and will do it again. reintroduce offshore processing for illegal boat arrivals on Nauru and continue to oppose Julia Gillards unworkable and illegal Malaysian Solution. reintroduce temporary protection visas to deny permanent residency to unauthorised arrivals. There will be mandatory minimum sentences for people smugglers. support our defence forces with the resources and equipment they need.
