ourdayunawareofHimatbest,andfeelingabandonedbyHimatworst.C.S.Lewissaid,
Wemayignore,butwecannowhereevade,thepresenceofGod.Theworldiscrowded
withHim.Hewalkseverywhereincognito.Yeteveninourredeemedstate,weareoftena
distractedpeople.Thebusynessandchaosofliferobusofthecomfortandpowerof
knowingHeisnear.

WhatiftherewasawaytoquietourheartsandhearHisvoice?Whatwouldhappeninand
throughusifwebecameapeoplethatlivedsothatourfocusandconcernineverysituation
andrelationshipwasGodOnly?Overthenext100Daysitisourhopeanddesireto
becomeapeopleofreflectivemovement,seekingtolivecontinuallyawareofHis
presenceandattentivetoHisinvitationtojoinHiminHisactivityintheworldaroundus.A
peoplethatlivewithadailyrhythmthatempowersustoconnecttothedivineamidstthe
everyday.Arhythmthatcountersthechaosanddisorderinourlivesandcreatesspace
forustobecomemoreawareofthenearnessofGod.Indiscussingaparticulartypeof
rhythmcalledaruleoflife,AdeleCalhounsays
Aruleforlifeisasimplestatementoftheregularrhythmswechooseinorderto
presentourbodiestoGodasourspiritualactofworship(Romans12:1).Each
rule,orrhythm,isawaywepartnerwithGodforthetransformationonlyhecan
bring.Ruleskeepourlivesfromdevolvingintounintendedchaos.Theyarenta
burdensomelistofdosanddonts,enumeratingeverythingyoumightdoinaday.
Lifegivingrulesareabriefandrealisticscaffoldofdisciplinesthatsupportyour
heartsdesiretogrowinlovingGodandothers.
Aswebecomeaccustomedtotherhythmitfadesintothebackgroundandwearefreeto
enjoyHispresence,hearHisvoice,andknowHisheartinanysituationandcircumstance.

becomefeeble,andourmindsbecomedistractedbyhollowanddeceptivephilosophy,
whichdependsonhumantraditionandthebasicprinciplesofthisworldratherthanon

toadistancefromHimwheretheburdenofguiltandshameisnotsointense?Doyour
condemningthoughtsconvinceyoutohide,fromGodandothers,believingyouwould
certainlyberejectedifthedepthofsinsdepravitywasexposed?

WhenourmindsarenotfixedonJesus,onGodonly,wearevulnerabletobelievinglies
aboutourselvesandothersthatstirfear,shame,guilt,andanger.Wemaybeconvinced
thatwearestillboundtothesinfulnature(Romans7:5)andcannotescapethecontinual
depravityspannedbythisforcewithus.Wetry,wefail.Wetryharder,wefailmiserably.
MaybewelamentliketheApostlePauldidwhenrecognizinghimselfasaprisonerofsin:
OhwretchedmanIam!Whowilldelivermefromthisbodyofdeath?(Romans7:24).
WemustneverforgetwhowewereWemustalwaysrememberwhoweare
IfweforgetWhowewere,wecanminimizethemagnitudeandgloryofHisgrace,andeven
fallintoafalseprideaboutourneedfortobesaved.However,ifwedonotrememberwho
weareinChrist,Hislightcannotshineasbrightlythroughus;welimitHispowerinusto
beusedasinstrumentsofrighteousness.
