UTIL Utility vehicles, Truck-like body with no seats behind the driver, (SUV with rear seats permanently removed), Cab and chassis without body. TRAILER AND RV Plate Class Body Type HOU H/TR; 5th wheel w/bath. PAS H/WH; Motor & bath. PAS SUBN; RV Conversion; No bath. TRL TRLR; Large Pop-up, Flatbed, Box Trailer, Car Hauler; no bath, soft walls, 1000 lbs. or more. LTR LTRL; Boat, Snowmobile, Wagon Trailer, Small Pop-up; 999 lbs. or less.
New York Approved Color Codes: If the vehicle is painted two shades of the same color edit as one color (GR). If vehicle is painted two different colors edit as Primary/Trim color (BK/GY). For variations in colors you may edit as light or dark (LT/BL). BK=BLACK BL=BLUE BR=BROWN GL=GOLD GR=GREEN GY=GRAY MR=MAROON OR=ORANGE PK=PINK PR=PURPLE RD=RED TN=TAN WH=WHITE YW-YELLOW NOCL=NO COLOR DK=DARK LT=LIGHT

NYS Insurance Identification Card must be obtained for the new vehicle prior to delivery, and effective date must be valid within 45 days of delivery.

New Vehicle Manufacturer Certificate of Origin (MCO) DO NOT complete Back for NYS Transactions. Back of MCO is completed ONLY for Out-of-State sales as Dealer Trade or to a Purchaser.

NYS Title is used at first retail sale and all subsequent sales. Complete Section I on back to transfer: All fields completed and all boxes checked, with seller and buyer signatures, Must be 2 different people that sign. The dealer cannot sign the back of a title with a Power of Attorney from individual. If title in 2 names, only one seller signature is necessary. NEVER complete Section II unless you are selling a boat or a manufactured home. This is also used for the transfer of ownership by an out-of-state dealer (he doesnt have MV-50s).

Remove a Lien MV-901 Completed or Bank Letter on letterhead with original, facsimile or laser signature. Lien Release Request Letter with Payoff of Trade-In Vehicle

Add a Lien MV-50 and MV-82 from dealer (Bank pays for lien $5 Cannot be passed on to customer). ELT Program: Bank adds the Lien through NYS ELT program (dealer does not file lien- no $5) MV-900 Notice of Lien completed to add a lien after a vehicle has been registered. If title issued send with application. Include $5 check for lien.

MV-74 Certification of Emissions Compliance or Exemption All vehicles 1996 and newer must have California Emissions Out-of-State vehicles must comply or be exempt. NYS titled vehicles are approved, and MCOs are branded Vehicles over 7500 miles are Exempt Vehicles under 7500 miles must be checked for CA emissions by looking for Emission Sticker under hood. If they comply, it is noted on this completed form and attached to the title If they do not comply cannot run up miles. Must get rid of at auction or sell out-of-state

Whole Sale/Auction Transaction


Sale of used vehicles between any new or used car dealers Wholesale are sold to a definite person/Auction are sold to the highest bidder. Wholesale sale or Auction Purchase paperwork includes MV-50 enter N/A Plate, Inspection and Selling Price, L-0 for Lien information Title (L-R) Bill of Sale

Auction Sale Paperwork


Selling a vehicle at auction requires preparing the paperwork without certain information MV-50: Enter N/A for Plate, Inspection and Selling Price. L-0 for Lien information The Auction will complete the Purchaser name and address, date of sale and odometer disclosure at the time of sale. Auction Block Slip includes Bill of Sale with purchaser and seller information and Odometer Disclosure

NYS Book of Registry: Dealers Legal Record of all inventory bought and sold. Must be kept 2 years after completion Chronological Order All fields completed or enter N/A If correction use 1 line and write correct info If whole section must be voided write void across all and re-enter in next available space and cross reference, or re-enter on opposite page with all required information Void original incorrect entry. Stickers allowed if completed properly and stick permanently and cannot be easily removed.
