The Spanish, Russia, and Ottoman Empire were each built under different ideals from 1450 to 1800.

Economically Spain was exploiting its colonies in Latin America, while Russia was expanding in Asia to create a larger empire. Socially, Spain used Christianity to unite its people, while the Ottomans used Islam to unite their people. Politically, the Russians had a monarchy while the Ottomans had a Sultan. Each Empire was unique to its method of building but all of them were set on becoming the most powerful empire. Economically, wealth was gained through imperialism. Both the Spanish and the Russians sought to use new lands to strengthen the mother country. The Spanish Empire exploited its colonies in Latin America. The Spanish colonies were created to give resources and riches to the mother country. This method gave wealth quickly to Spain but was quickly exploited to its fullest and the colonies were set free. In Russia the idea was to conquer new lands and incorporate them into the empire. The Russians believed by expanding the size of the mother country they would be able to create larger armies, build better agriculture, and find more resources. While both Empires increased wealth through imperialism, their methods of expansion were different. Socially, both Spain and the Ottomans nationalized through religion. Spain used Christianity to make their people feel a bond with other people in their empire. As a Spanish citizen, it was pleasing to be able to relate to other citizens through religion. It was important that the citizens be united because it decreases the chances of revolts and Civil wars. The Ottoman Empire used Islam to bring its people together. While Islam united the Ottomans in the same way Christianity united the Spanish, it also carried other social ideas. This includes poor treatment of women, making them lower classed in society. It also meant that the people were very loyal to their caliph, because he was not only the leader of their empire; he was also the

leader of their religion. Both empires used Religion to unite their people, but the Spanish were Christian and the Ottomans were Muslim. Politically, both Russia and the Ottomans were ruled by a single absolute leader. In Russia that leader was an absolute monarch. Leaders like Ivan the terrible abused the power, but other leaders such as Peter the Great brought Russia to its best potential. Through Peter the Great, Russia westernized, militarized, and expanded. In the Ottoman Empire they were ruled by the Sultan. The Sultan controlled both the politics of his empire and the military of his empire. This system had an absence of balancing powers and the Sultans were able to give themselves absolute power. However, this power was used to rapidly expand the Ottoman Empire. They conquered Constantinople, Egypt, and parts of the Arabian Peninsula. Russia and the Ottomans were ruled by absolute leaders, Russia was ruled by monarchs and the Ottomans were ruled by Sultans. Economically, Spain exploited colonies and Russia expanded the mother country. Socially, Spain used Christianity to unite its people while the Ottomans used Islam. Although these empires had different ideas about building their empires, their ultimate goal was to become the strongest empire.
