With globalization and the development of technology and international communication, the pursuit of language acquisition has increased in significance and popularity. Increasingly more teachers, students, migrants and professionals are being pressed to learn and know a second language in order to function and work in society. In recent decades various factors that impact on second language acquisition (SLA) have been investigated. These have included factors considered to be either innate or environmental factors, as well as teaching and learning approaches such as those deemed to be content-based and student-centred. Accroding to Gagne and Brigg, students learning outcome are influenced by 4 factors; they are aptitude variable, process varieble, suport variable and instruction. From the factors above, the researcher choose one of the most influenced factor, aptitude variable. From the explanation above, the writter determines the topic above because aptitude is basically depent of the students itself and their family. And also, it plays an important role in learning second language process.

Language Aptitude is an ability that largely determines how quickly and easily an
individual will learn a language in a language course or language training program.

2. Achievement is something accomplished by great effort. In this study,

CHAPTER II REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURES 2.1 Concept of Correlation There are a lot of definition of correlation that have been already defined by the experts: Webster (1989:327) states hat correlation is mutual relation of two or more attribute or measurements on the same group of elements. Other definition about it is The Geolier International Dictionary (1989 ; 299) states that correlation is a casual ,complementary, parallel or periodical relationship between two comparable entities. Moreover, Watson (1981 : 165) states that the correlation is degree of relationship. Furthermore, Connor (1981:165) mentions that two or more variables that tend to more in sympathy are said to be correlated. It is posible to consider only two variables. Dalen (1996:353) describes those two measurements for the same individual can be paired for the entire individual groupp. The degree of relationship between the paired score is called the correlation. In addition, Freud (1991: 437) states that corelation is the reletionship ( association or interdependent ) of the values of two or more qualitative or quantitative variables. Based on the definitions above, the researcher concludes as follows: Correlation is the relationship of two or more variables The variables use data of the sam subject or individual and can be quantitative or qualitative

In connection with correlational study, the purpose of correlation are to measure the degree of relationship and to find out how close tthe relation between two or more variables. As Lehmann (1971:189) explained that correlational reserach is concerned with discovering and / or measuring the degree of relationship between two or more variables. He points out that correlational reserach only indicate whether a relationship exists, it does not indicate whether existing relationship are causal. It means that in correlational study he does not intend to make causal claims. The researcher only asks how the relationship between one variable and the other is. 2.2 Concept of Language Aptitude 2.3 Concept of Achievement There are several concepts of achievement as follows : Gage and Barliner ( 1984:82) describes the achievement is result from an active learning process help along by instuction and education activity. It means that the students learning outcome gain after they experience an active learning by the helping of instruction and educatioanal activity. 2.4 Review of Related Studies

Chapter III Research Method 3.1 Research Design This study is to know the relationship between the parents attention and studentds achievement in learning English. The design of this study is correlation study. This idea is relevant to the statement of Freund (1991:437) who states that correlaton is the relationship is the relationship (association or interdependence) of the values of two or more qualitative or quantitative variables. Similarly Johnson (1992:49) states that the purpose of correlation study is to understand relationship among characteristics of people and other entities. By using the research design and the purpose of correlation study to find out the correlation between language aptitude and english achievement by the forth grade student of SD Negeri 012 Loa janan, the researcher hope the research can give the suitable result with the criteria of correlation stuudy. So the result os correlation between students language aptitude and english achievement will be known.

3.2 Population and Sample. Population is the entire group of entities or person to whose reseluts of study are intended to appy (Donna.M.Johnson :1992). This study is used simple random sampling. Since the accesible population is more than a hundred, the writer takes 60 students as the sample research. It is based on what is said by Surakhmad in Arikunto (2002:13) that if the member of population is less than one hundred, then we take them all, but when it is in hundred we take 50%, and if the number is more than one thousend we take 15%

3.3 Research Instrument 3.3.1 Documentation Documentation methode is the way of collecting data from the sources that already existed.
