Kevin Clark Period 3 The Impossible Directing: to manage or guide by advice.

In many ways this is one of the hardest tasks to successfully accomplish in the cruel world of film. It calls for a large amount of skill and experience. As a director your goal is to fulfill the vision that has been created. Not only is it an extremely competitive career, it is one of the most challenging. The budget of a film can determine how much the director is responsible for. On a low budget film, the director is normally found with their hands full of work, which may includes writing, editing, filming and sometimes even acting. On a higher budget film the job is still just as hard, but with more money it is possible to hire people that specialize in those fields rather than leaving it to mostly one person. There are no training requirements to become a director. However, one that is interested in starting a career in this area should somehow obtain the knowledge necessary. Many people major or minor in film and go from there. A major can take anywhere from 2-4 years. Most people go to a film school so that they can meet people and establish contacts as well as learn the trade. These contacts are very helpful because they help get a students name out in the field, as well as open up career opportunities. At most film schools the teachers there are professionals who have been in the business, which gives learning students a chance to see what the real world of film is like. Becoming a director can be an enormous task. It is said to be the epitome of jobs in film. Most people do not make films that make it to the theaters. But there are a good amount of jobs in television along with music videos, podcasts, commercials, documentaries and many more. Keeping in mind the various jobs available, the average director can make anywhere from $10,000 to millions. Some non-monetary things can be

taken out of the career as well. Many people become directors because they fall in love with a story that had inspired them to start the job. A lot of times this love for a story will motivate anyone to become a director. This has recently been seen in a lot of new films, when an average Joe begins making a film because of this motivation created. Their motivation is sometimes very necessary as well because being a director can mean long work hours on a harsh budget and schedule. These types of films are mostly made into independent films, which are films that are made outside of the major film studios. The independent film gives people a chance to be seen by the public and by other filmmakers. This opens up a huge door of possibility for many aspiring filmmakers. Unlike the past scenario, where people were forced to have to work through the studio in order to get a movie made. Many have prospered in this area of work too. Some examples are the works of Alfred Hitchcock, Charlie Chaplin, Tim Burton, Walt Disney, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. These are some of the top names in the entire directing world. I would call it a dream come true to become a director of a motion picture. I love all aspects of film and everything it stands for. But, I think of directing as a goal in my future a lot further down the road for me because I am still really young and I know that there is so much for me to learn. I imagine that if I go to film school I would most likely want to direct music videos or commercials. I think that this career would fit me well because I am extremely motivated to start up any project that forces me to put my creativity and skill to work. Also, I enjoy learning new things and I am a fast learner. I understand the challenges faced with becoming a director, but that is what inspires me, the challenge of doing the impossible.
