Brothers and sisters, we hear so much good news from Jeremiah this morning, it is hard to focus on just one message. We hear that we are covenant people. We hear that we are Gods people. We hear that we all from the least to the greatest know God. We hear, not only, that our sins are forgivenbut also that God forgets our sins. Did you catch that? Not only does God forgive us our sins, but God forgets them, too! During this season of Lent, hearing that our sins are forgiven is an appropriate reminder. During Lent we humbly reflect upon our liveswe confess and seek forgiveness for the things we have done and left undoneand we remember just how fragile we really are. The words from Jeremiah come to our ears at a perfect timewe have already been forgiven. Jeremiah reminds us that we are forgivenbut I wonder if there might be more for us to take away from this passage. I wonder if there is an invitation for us. I wonder if there might be an invitation for us to not only forgive, but also forget. If you are like me, there are more than a couple things in your life that you would like to forget. We all have times in our lives, events, and experiences that we might rather forgetbut we just cant. Maybe thats because theyre too painful. Maybe thats because they significantly affected someone elses life. Maybe thats because for too many years the events or experiences have defined who we are. There might be a lot of reasons we cant forgetbut today Id like to invite us to try. There is some wisdom not only in forgiving or seeking forgiveness, but also in forgetting. In Jeremiah, we hear Gods promise not only to forgive us, but also to forget

what weve done. God frees us as God forgives us. God goes a step further in freeing us when God forgets what weve done. God forgives, forgets, and frees us from our sins. We are free to develop a newa deepera healthier relationship, with God and with one another. We are free so that we might grow in our relationships with God and with one another. And so, over the next couple weeks, before Easter morning comes, I would like to invite us to remember two events or experiences in our lives that wed rather forget. They might be personal experiences that weve had with addictions or destructive behavior. They might be struggles weve had with other people, or even with God. They might be experiences or events that have simply remained with us for too long. Whatever they might be, I would like to invite us to let them go. I invite us to let them go so that by Gods grace we might be free. And in this freedom we might be able to grow in our relationships with ourselves, with one another, and with God. This is not an easy invitation to accept and it will take time. It might even take longer than the two weeks left before Easter. This is hard work. If you decide to accept this invitation, do so with the knowledge that it is part of the healing processthat it will lead to wholeness. Do so knowing that as we seek to forgive and let go of an experience or event, we will open ourselves up to the possibilities of being free to develop new, better, deeper, and healthier relationships with others and with God. After all, this is exactly what God seeks to do in relationship with us. God forgives us for everything that weve doneor not doneand then forgets. Brothers and sisters, this is one of the many layers of the good news we hear today. God forgives and forgets. God frees us to deepen our relationship with Him and with one another, and thanks be to God for that. Amen.

En el nombre del Creador, Redentor y Sustentador, Amn. Hermanos y hermanas, esta maana escuchamos de Jeremas tantas cosas buenas, que es difcil enfocarse en solamente un mensaje. Escuchamos que somos el pueblo del pacto. Escuchamos que somos el pueblo de Dios. Escuchamos que todos, - desde el ms pequeo al ms grande- conocemos a Dios. Escuchamos no slo que nuestros pecados estn perdonadossino que tambin Dios olvida nuestros pecados. Entendieron eso? Dios no slo perdona nuestros pecados, sino que tambin los olvida! Durante esta estacin de cuaresma, escuchar que nuestros pecados son perdonados es un recordatorio apropiado. Durante la cuaresma reflexionamos con humildad sobre nuestras vidasconfesamos y buscamos perdn por las cosas que hemos hecho y por las que hemos dejado de hacery recordamos cun frgiles somos. La palabras de Jeremas viene a nosotros en el tiempo correctoya hemos sido perdonados. Jeremas nos recuerda que ya hemos sido perdonadospero me pregunto si habr algo ms que podemos obtener de este pasaje. Me pregunto si hay una invitacin para nosotros. Me pregunto si habr una invitacin para nosotros no solamente para perdonar, sino tambin para olvidar. Si son como yo, seguramente en sus vidas hay ms que una o dos cosas que preferiran olvidar. Todos tenemos momentos en nuestras vidas, acontecimientos y experiencias que preferiramos olvidarpero que simplemente no podemos. Quiz es porque son demasiado dolorosas. Quiz es porque afectaron significativamente la vida de alguien ms. Quiz es porque por demasiados aos los acontecimientos y las experiencias han definido lo que somos. Puede que haya muchas razones por las que no podemos olvidar pero hoy me gustara que nos invitramos a tratar. Hay cierta sabidura en no solamente buscar perdn y perdonar, sino tambin en olvidar. En Jeremas escuchamos la promesa de Dios de no solamente perdonarnos, sino tambin de olvidar lo que hemos hecho. Dios nos liberas conforme nos perdona. Dios va un paso ms adelante al liberarnos cuando l olvida lo que hemos hecho. Dios nos perdona, olvida y nos libera de nuestros pecados. Somos libres para desarrollar una nueva y ms profunda relacin ms sana con Dios y el uno con el otro. Somos libres para crecer en nuestra relacin con Dios y el uno con el otro.

De esta manera, durante las prximas semanas, antes de la llegada de la Pascua, me gustara invitarnos a recordar dos acontecimientos o experiencias in nuestras vidas que preferiramos olvidar. Pueden ser experiencias personales que son adicciones o de conducta destructiva. Pueden ser experiencias o acontecimientos que simplemente han permanecido con nosotros por demasiado tiempo. Sea lo que sea, me gustara que nos invitramos a dejarlas ir. Quiero que nos invitemos a dejarlas ir para que por al Gracias de Dios podamos ser libres. Y que en esta libertad podamos crecer en nuestra relacin con nosotros mismos, el uno con el otro, y con Dios. Esta no es una invitacin fcil de aceptar y puede que tome tiempo. Puede que tome ms tiempo que las dos semanas antes de Pascua. Es una tarea difcil. Si deciden aceptar la invitacin, hganlo con el conocimiento de que es parte del proceso sanadorque nos llevar a la integridad personal. Hganlo sabiendo que conforme buscamos perdonar y dejar ir una experiencia o acontecimiento, nos abriremos a la posibilidad de ser libres para desarrollar una relacin nueva, mejor, ms sana y ms profunda con los dems y con Dios. Despus de todo, esto es exactamente lo que Dios busca en su relacin con nosotros. Dios perdona todo lo que hemos hecho o dejado de hacery entonces lo olvida. Hermanos y hermanas. Esta es una de las muchas capas de las Buenas Nuevas que escuchamos hoy. Dios perdona y olvida. Dios nos libera para profundizar nuestra relacin con l y los unos con los otros, y Gracias sean dadas a Dios por ello. Amn.
