Student Progress Mentor Full Time, 36.25 hrs pw Director of Pastoral School Salary Range: Band 4 19126 -21519. Pro Rata Term Time Only + 10 days paid holiday learning support. Purpose of the role (job statement) To assist the Governors and Headteacher in creating, establishing and delivering a vision for the school to ensure that every child succeeds. To provide a comprehensive and structured classroom support to students with a wide range of abilities and needs and to provide a significant level of unsupervised cover for absence teachers, facilitating learning from set plans, after a period of induction. Principal Responsibilities The person appointed, in addition to carrying out key duties particularly assigned by the Headteacher, 1. Assist in the implementation of the aims and objectives of the school. 2. Maintain and develop the distinct ethos and character of the school in accordance with the directions given by the Governors and subject therto direction given by the Headteacher. 3. Be as visible and accessible as possible throughout the school day to provide encouragement and support for students learning and, drive an ongoing focus on the schools distinctive ethos and high expectations. 4. Work with individual pupils on a 1:1 basis or in groups in order to remove barriers to learning progress and accelerate learning, with a focus on behaviour, attendance, persistent absence, family support. 5. Undertake home visits as necessary to work with pupils and their parents within named house/year group to overcome barriers to learning. 6. To work with other Learning Mentors and with the Directors of Pastoral School, and Assistant Headteacher to identify vulnerable pupils/pupils at risk of underachievement within named House. 7. Monitor and evaluate student progress within named House by tracking progress of Learning Tutors and the groups of learners they are responsible for, to make a measurable contribution to school targets and maintain records of work/intervention with individual pupils/groups. 8. Plan, Deliver and evaluate interventions for vulnerable/at risk pupils or refer to internal/external agencies as required, including contributing to enrichment activities. 9. To act as an advocate for individual pupils with a whole school focus upon either; Gifted and Talented, SEN, Looked After Children/Known to Social Services, EAL. 10. To support the development of Pastoral Support Plans for individual pupils, including liaison with other agencies as appropriate. 11. To highlight any safeguarding issues to the Child Protection Designated Person 12. To provide support and advice for school staff in providing for the needs of At risk/vulnerable pupils. 13. Carry out any other duties commensurate with the grading of the post as directed by the Headteacher The postholder is entitled to a break of reasonable length in the course of each school day. Strategic Planning: To liase with the Director of Pastoral School to create a Pastoral School development plan which contributes positively to the achievement of the school improvement plan and which actively involves all Learning tutors in its design and execution. Contribute to a transition programme for students who enter mid year, or and considering their next steps in Y9 and Y11. Liase with the EWO to ensure a plan is in place to reduce PA and increase attendance. Staffing: Liase with the Director of Pastoral School and Learning Tutors to monitoring progress, achievement, Curriculum Development: Keep up to date with national developments within educational policy. Ensure that the extended, enrichment and extra curriculum meets the needs of all learners. To complement the work of existing staff and services.

Quality Assurance: To ensure Learning Tutors understand, and are actively implementing, the key aspects of the

attendance, punctuality and behaviour of students within this Pastoral School. To be a professional role model. Promote teamwork to ensure effective working relations.

Communication: To ensure that learner/learning information is gathered and provided and communicated effectively and regularly with relevant stakeholders. Collect, effectively use and present progress data to inform improvement. Ensure that all learning spaces, classrooms and corridors related to the Pastoral School promote learning effectively and celebrate achievement. Model learning as worthwhile in itself to individual young people who have lost their focus. Learner Development: Ensure that all staff that teach students within this pastoral school are fully aware of and effectively address the needs of students at greatest risk of underachievement. To attend all meetings, prepare and present information as required associated with vulnerable students and/or those at risk of underachieving and provide progress updates as requested by SLT Identify and refer such students for appropriate inhouse/external agencies focused on improving attainment. Ensure effective and personalised support for learning for all students within the pastoral school. Elicit the support of all parents and carers as active partners in childrens learning Liase with the Director of Learning Support and Directors of Academic School to plan, monitor and evaluate effective personalised interventions for students where appropriate. Schools attendance, behaviour and inclusion policies, for effective learning to take place. To assist the designated team leader/SLT Manager in the annual review of standards, consistent with the procedures in the school self evaluation policy. Agree, monitor and evaluate pupil progress targets with students, staff, families of students, learning tutors and SLT to make an outstanding contribution to achieving whole school targets. To provide training and support for the development of behaviour management skills across Y8-11 staff and monitor its impact to ensure it makes a significant contribution to the school development plan and student progress Resources: To contribute to annual, termly awards/achievement, weekly learning/achievement celebrations, student assemblies.

Additional: To play a full part in the school community, to support its distinctive mission and ethos, encourage and ensure staff and students follow this example. Ensure that staff celebrate and reward progress and achievement regularly within this pastoral school. Contribute to developing an extra curricular/extended school programme of House activities. Implement strategies to allow students to make a positive contribution to the school and wider community. Work with the EWO to develop and implement a programme of restorative justice. Plan and run clubs and activities for vulnerable/at risk pupils at lunchtime and at the start and end of the school day.

Will hold Minimum GCSe C+ qualifications/equivalent in Maths and English A relevant vocational, or Degree level qualifications desirable. Will have evidence of skills in engaging, motivating and inspiring young people aged 11-16 to learn. Will have evidence of impact of working in a team environment and particularly with young people who face challenge or attachment issues. Will have emotional resilience, be calm under pressure, persistent, punctual, reliable, trustworthy and committed to inclusive education. Will have evidence of personal commitment to and impact of developing self.
