The Traditional Definition of Marriage

People say that because Jesus loved everybody...

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

How we know that Jesus supports

... and because he preached the Golden Rule...

... that he would be OK with any two people marrying each other, even if they were of the same gender, as long as they loved each other. Right?????

Well .... Not exactly .

You see, in the Gospels, Jesus clearly reiterated the traditional definition of marriage as found in the Old Testament.

God's plan for marriage: An unbreakable bond between a man and a woman oriented toward the bearing of children.

I submit the following points for your consideration....

"God created man in his image ... male and female he created them" (Genesis 1:27).

"God himself is the author of marriage," Paul VI.

Upon seeing Eve, Adam exclaims, "bone of my bones, flesh of my flesh" (Genesis 2:23).

"The vocation to marriage is written in the very nature of man and woman as they came from the hand of the creator" (CCC, 1603).

For this reason, the Bible tells us, "a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one body" (Genesis 2:24). "Marriage thus created is a faithful, privileged sphere of intimacy between the spouses that lasts until death" US Bishops' Conference

"God blessed them, and God said to them: Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it" (Genesis 1:28).

"The institution of matrimony itself and conjugal love are ordained for the procreation and education of children, and find in them their ultimate crown" (Second Vatican Council).

To those who want to redefine marriage, Jesus doesn't say, do what you want as long as you love each other. He says:

"Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female' ... "And said 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one esh?' "So they are no longer two, but one esh. Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate" (Matthew 19:4-6).
