1.5HardwareInstallation
STEP1:Turnoffyourcomputerandremoveitscover STEP2:InsertthePCIwirelessnetworkcardintoanavailablePCIslotfirmly.Pleasereferto theillustrationbelow:

STEP3:Securethiscardtotherearofthecomputerchassisandreplacethecover. STEP4: Install the antenna on the wireless network card, and make sure the antenna is securelyinstalled.Toimproveradioreception,pleaseadjustantennatotheproperposition.

STEP5:Turnonthecomputer.

2. InstallationProcedure
Note:IfyouhaveinstalledtheWirelessAdapterdriver&utilitybefore,pleaseuninstallthe oldversionfirst.

STEP1: The Found New Hardware Wizard below will appear after the WLAN adapter is installed.PleaseclickCanceltocontinue.

STEP2: Insert Installation CD into CDROM drive, windows below will appear. Click Install Driver&Utilitytobegindevicedriverinstallation.

STEP3: Please read the following license agreement. Use the scroll bar to view the rest of this agreement. Select I accept the terms of the license agreement and click Next to continue.

STEP4:ChooseInstalldriverandRalinkWLANUtilityandclickNexttocontinue.

STEP5: In Windows XP, there is a Windows Zero Configuration Tool for you to setup wireless adapter. You can choose to configure the adapter through the Microsoft Zero Configuration Tool or the Ralink Configuration Tool. It is recommended to choose the RalinkConfigurationToolfortheadapter.ClickNexttocontinue.

STEP6:ClickInstalltobegintheinstallation.

STEP7: Please wait for a while during the Wireless LAN adapter is configuring your new softwareinstallation.

STEP8:AfterthesetupwizardhassuccessfullyinstalledwirelessLAN,clickFinishtoexitthe wizard.

The Configuration Utility appears as an icon on the system tray of Windows while the adapterisrunning.Youcanopentheutilitybydoubleclickontheicon.

Rightclicktheicon,therearesomeitemsforyoutooperatetheconfigurationutility, LaunchConfigUtilities SelectthisoptiontoopentheConfigurationUtilitytool. Use Zero Configuration as Configuration utility (Available on Windows XP only) ZeroConfiguration)toconfiguretocard. SwitchtoSTA+APMode(AvailableonWindows7) APmode. SwitchtoAPMode(AvailableonWindowsVista/XP/2000only) tochangetoAPmode. Open Diagnostic Testing Mode (Available on Windows Vista/XP/2000 only) checknetworkconnectionstatus. 3. WirelessNetworkConfigurationUtility
3.1RaUIWirelessUtility&WindowsZeroConfiguration(WZC)
TheConfigurationUtilityisapowerfulapplicationthathelpsyoutoconfiguretheWireless LANadapterandmonitorthelinkstatusandstatisticsduringthecommunicationprocess. Whentheadapterisinstalled,theconfigurationutilitywillbedisplayedautomatically.This adapterwillautoconnecttowirelessdevicewhichhasbettersignalstrengthandnowireless securitysetting. In Windows XP, it provides wireless configuration utility named Windows Zero configurationwhichprovidesbasicconfigurationfunctionforRalinkWirelessNIC,Ralinks Utility(RaUI)providesWPAsupplicantfunctionality.Tomakeiteasierforusertoselectthe correct utility, RaUI will let user make the selection when it first runs after windows XP boots. RaUIcancoexistwithWZC(WindowsZeroConfiguration).WhencoexistingwithWZC,RaUI only provides monitoring function, such as link status, network status, statistic counters, advance feature status, WMM status and WPS status. It wont interfere with WZCs configurationorprofilefunctions.Pleaseseebelowpicture:ToselectWZCorRaUI

If Use Zero Configurations as Configuration utility is selected, please continue on the section.BelowpictureshowsthattheRaUIstatuswhenWZCisactiveasmaincontrolutility.

When activating WZC, there are couple different on RaUI status compare to the without WZCrunning: (1) Profile button will be gray, profile function is removed since the NIC is controlled by WZC. (2) The connect and add profile function will be gray. The reason is same as the first difference. [UseWZCtoconfigurewirelessNIC] STEP1: Rightclick Ralink configuration utility icon and select Use Zero Configuration as ConfigurationUtility.

STEP3:Allwirelessaccesspointinproximitywillbedisplayhere.Iftheaccesspointyouwant touseisnotdisplayhere,pleasetrytomoveyourcomputerclosertotheaccesspoint,or youcanclickRefreshNetworkListtorescanaccesspoints.Clicktheaccesspointyouwan touseifitsshown,thenclickConnect.

STEP4:Iftheaccesspointisprotectedbyencryption,youhavetoinputitssecurity keyor passphrasehere.Itmustmatchtheencryptionsettingontheaccesspoint.

STEP5: When you see the Connected message, the connection between your computer andwirelessaccesspointissuccessfullyestablished.

STEP6:IfyouwanttomodifyinformationaboutAP,clickChangeadvancedsettings

STEP7:ChooseWirelessNetworkstab.

STEP8:ClickPropertiesandthenclickOKbutton.

STEP9: After filling appropriate value, click OK button. And the status will prompt up as below.

STEP10: Click the Ralinks icon will bring up RaUI main window. User can find the surrounding APs in the list. The current connected AP will also show with the green icon indicated as below screen. User may user the available tab to configure more advanced featuresprovidedbyRalinkswirelessNIC.

3.2StartRaUIUtility
WhenstartingRaUI,systemwillconnecttotheAPwithbestsignalstrengthwithoutsetting profileormatchingprofilesetting.Itwillissueascancommand towirelessNIC.After two seconds, the AP list will updated with the result of BSS list scan. The AP list include most used fields, such as SSID, network type, channel used, wireless mode, security status and signalpercentage.ThearrowiconindicatestheconnectedBSSorIBSSnetwork.

3.3Profile
Profilecanbookkeepingyourfavoritewirelesssettingamongyourhome,office,andother public hotspot. You may save multiple profiles, and activate the correct one at your preference.

3.4Network
Under the Network function, system will display the information of surrounding APs from lastscanresult.ListinformationincludesSSID,BSSID,Signal,Channel,Encryptionalgorithm, AuthenticationandNetworktypeasbelow:

(4) WhenyoudoubleclickontheintendedAP,youcanseeAPsdetailinformation.

3.5Advanced
Thiswirelessnetworkcardprovidesseveraladvancedsettingsforexperiencedwirelessusers. Youcanchangethesesettingstoincreasedatatransferperformance,orchangeoperation mode.

WirelessMode:Selectwirelessmode.Support2.4Gonly. EnableTxBurst:Ralinksproprietaryframeburstmode. EnableTCPWindowsSize:Enhancethroughout. FastRoamingat:Fasttoroaming,setupbytransmitpower. Select your Country Region Code: The available channel differs from different countries. For example: USA (FCC) is channel 111, Europe (ETSI) is channel 113. The operating frequencychannelwillberestrictedtothecountryuserlocatedbeforeimporting.Ifyouare indifferentcountry,youhavetoadjustthechannelsettingtocomplytheregulationofthe country. Supporting region code for this section has CH111, CH113, CH1011, CH1013, CH14,CH114,CH39,andCH513.PleaserefertobelowChannelClassificationandrange, CountryChannellisttoselectyourCountryRegionCode:

3.7WMM
ThiswirelessnetworkcardprovidesWMM(WiFiMultimedia)function,whichcanimprove the performance of certain network applications, like audio/video streaming, network telephony(VoIP),andothers.WhenyouenabletheWMMfunctionofthisnetworkcard,you candefinethepriorityofdifferentkindsofdata,togivehigherprioritytoapplicationswhich require instant responding. Therefore you can improve the performance of such network applications.

WMMEnable:CheckthisboxtoenableWMMfunction.PleaseclickApplybuttononthe rightofthischeckboxafteryoucheckoruncheckthisbox,socorrespondingsettingsinthis windowwillbeactivatedordeactivatedrespectively. Youalsohavetospecifythetimeoutvalueofthisdirectlylinkedwirelessdevice.Validvalues arefrom1to65535(seconds),andinput0forinfinity.
