Application process
As all students in the programme will take the first semester at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm (Sweden), the application and admission process is synchronised with other Master of Science programmes given at the same institute. The application is handled online within a system coordinated by the Swedish National Admissions Office (Agency for Services to Universities and University Colleges) and their website www.studera.nu, where the programme is found under the name "Master (Two Years), Innovative Energy Engineering". The online application process for the ISEE programme opens on December 1 and closes on January 15!

Deadline for submitting application documents on www.studera.nu: 15th of January! It is possible to send in complementary documents after the deadline, if the main application has been submitted on time. For example, results from a TOEFL test can be sent in afterhand, if the test is to be taken after the application deadline. In such case, please identify this clearly in the application.
Upon admission, students will receive a letter from KTH (written by the director) with a greeting and a request to make a preliminary study plan including which optional course blocks they will choose later in the program and where they will do their thesis work. This is to make sure the universities have ample time to plan for the courses. Also, the universities will do their best to help students finding accommodation, which is easier the earlier the universities know how many students they will receive. It should be stressed that the universities have no obligation to find accommodation for students. Rather, it is each students own responsibility to find a suitable place to live. Housing may be problematic and it is strongly recommended that each student plan for this in time. However, the universities will help in anyway they can to simplify the process and students are welcome to contact the universities for more information. Specialisation courses may be selected at any of the six universities participating in the programme. Different universities may have different requirements for admission. Students admitted to the programme should make the final decision on which optional course blocks they choose in the middle of October (potentially with an opportunity to revise the choice in the middle of March). Admission to the optional course packages is dependent on special requirements on each university and satisfactory scores during the first half semester. The selection for optional courses for semester 2 will be preceded by an information meeting between the students and representatives of all universities.

Admission requirements
Take care to read the following admission requirements carefully. They can also be found on the KTH website: admission requirements and selection. 1. Previous studies Suitable academic backgrounds include mechanical engineering, applied physics, and areas of electrical/chemical engineering relevant to power generation/distribution, and/or energy utilization. A completed Bachelor's degree in Science (B.Sc.) or Engineering (B.Eng.) - or documented equivalents thereof (corresponding to a Swedish Bachelor's degree (180 ECTS), or equivalent academic qualifications from an internationally recognised university). Equivalency will be evaluated at the discretion of the Program Administration, based on academic achievements and profile, as well as pertinent professional experience. The university has to be listed in the latest edition of the International Handbook of Universities. It is imperative that applicants have a sound knowledge of basic engineering sciences, including engineering thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, mathematics and numerical methods. Professional experience in related fields is considered a merit. Since male students are traditionally most numerously represented in this field of studies, female candidates are especially encouraged to apply for enrolment.

High grades from previous studies are not imperative to qualify for the programme, but as it is believed that

only highly motivated students will be able to follow the intense and demanding course packages given, formerly aquired knowledge will certainly be relevant in selecting the most promising candidates.
2. Language requirements A good knowledge of written and spoken English is required. Applicants must provide proof of their proficiency in English, which is most commonly established through an internationally recognised test. The following minimum test scores are accepted: TOEFL www.toefl.org: Paper-based test: minimum 580 (written section grade 4) Computer-based test: minimum 237 (essay writing grade 4) Internet-based test: minimum 92 (written section grade 22) TOEFL code: 9520. IELTS www.ielts.org: At least 6.5, no section lower than 5.5 (only IELTS Academic Training accepted). Other tests accepted are the University of Cambridge/Oxford Certificate in Advanced English or the Certificate of Proficiency in English (minimum grade C). In some cases English proficiency can be fulfilled from upper secondary education, for example an Abitur from Germany or the French Baccalaureate, LV1. In some cases the requirement of English proficiency is fulfilled if you have studied English for eight years up to upper secondary education. Proof thereof must be enclosed in your application. English proficiency tests are waived for the following: Applicants with a Bachelor's degree from a university where English is the only language of instruction and is physically located in the UK, USA, Canada, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand. Applicants who have studied as exchange students for one full semester at a Nordic university (include a statement or certificate from the university). EU/EEA citizens who have a degree from a European university participating in one or more of the European cooperation networks, such as Erasmus, Cluster, TIME, Nordic5Tech, etc. 3. Documentation All documents supporting the application must be stamped and signed by the issuing institution, or a Notary Public. Do not apply using original documents. No documents will be returned. Please note that the documentation requirements differ between countries. The documents should be in the original language, and in officially certified translations into Swedish, English, French or German, if the documents are issued in any other language than the Scandinavian languages. Please note that we check the authenticity of your documents with the issuing institution. Applications with unauthentic documents will invariably be rejected. TOEFL test results should be sent directly from the test centre to the address where the application documents are sent. Please note that applications not supported by officially certified documents will not be processed. Applications must be supported by the following documents, sorted in the same order as this list (put all documents in the same envelope): Cover sheet (generated from the web based application). Certificates and diplomas from previous education at an internationally recognised university. Transcripts of records (including course list). Sort them in reversed chronological order, i. e. put the last received document on top. A copy of your passport or some other document of identification. Proof that you meet the specific requirements of the programme, see list below. Proof of English skills. Additionally, for the Nordic Master programme in Innovative Sustainable Energy Engineering the following documents will be needed: Thesis Proposal. Letter of Motivation. 2 letters of Recommendation. Curriculum Vitae. Certificate showing relevant work experience, if applicable.

Please avoid staplers, paper clips and documents with text on two sides. Country-specific documentation requirements: If your degree was awarded in Cameroon, Canada, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, Sudan or USA, an official transcript of records must be sent directly from your university to the application address, in a sealed envelope. For Cameroon and Nigeria, the majority of all degrees will also have to be confirmed by the issuing institution before the applicant can be considered eligible. If your degree was awarded in Pakistan, your degrees/transcripts and diplomas awarded have to be attested by the Higher Education Commission in Pakistan.

Application instructions
The application process is thus partly web-based, but you also need to send a signed cover sheet and all required documents by regular mail. The application consists of four phases:

1. Create a user account In order to apply you need to start by creating a user account at the website of the National Admissions Office. This is used to log in to the web-based application form. Please note that the user account can be created in advance, before you are going to make the actual application! Create a user account 2. Web-based application form Once you have created your user account, you can search for the programme (which is found under the name "Master (Two Years), Innovative Energy Engineering", application code: E0806). Click on the "Add" button next to the programme information, which places it in your basket. Click on "To application" to create an application in your name. It is possible to choose more than one study programme and is so, the next step will be to rank the selected study programmes in order of preference. Then mark the box for supporting documents and send your application. 3. Cover Sheet After submission of the web-based application form, you will get access to a cover sheet for your supporting documents. This cover sheet should be printed and signed. If you cannot do this straight away, you will be able to reach and print it later via "Your application". The sheet contains your personal data and is essential for matching the actual documents with your application. 4. Complete application Your complete application should consist of the signed cover sheet along with all the required documents (correctly certified). Please read the application instructions carefully before you fill out an application! Send your application package to the address given on the cover sheet. Do not send it directly to KTH! Re-applicants If you have previously applied for a Master's programme via studera.nu (and then did send in a complete set of supporting documents), you only need to submit new documents that are relevant for the master's programmes you are applying for now. All new documents must be accompanied by a cover sheet. When logging on, you must use the same user account as you did when you previously applied to study via studera.nu. Regarding information on admission - please note! Due to the large number of applicants it will not be possible to get specific information on your admission until the results of the application assessment process are finalised. In addition, it will not be possible to get information on whether or not you are eligible for the programmes applied to until the assessment process has been completed. Processing of personal data Your personal data as well as information about your eligibility will be stored in the admissions database. The National Admissions Office as well as the Swedish universities and university colleges will process your data for assessment, merit rating, selection and admission. How this register is to be run is ruled by Swedish legislation (SFS 1993:1153; with alterations). The Swedish Principle of Public Access to Information means that the public and the mass media are entitled to receive information about state and municipal activities. In accordance with this, information about your application and qualifications will be accessible to the public on request. Notification of admission and Letter of acceptance The application evaluation process for the programme starting in August is carried out in January - April. The notification of admission will be communicated to the applicants through their personal account at studera.nu in April (date not set yet). The KTH Admissions Office will not be able to answer questions on the status of individual applications until the results of the screening process are finalised. The selection process for Innovative and Sustainable Energy Engineering is based on a total evaluation of the following selection criteria: university, GPA, course work related to the programme, thesis proposal, relevant working experiences and references.

Tuition fees

Beginning with the autumn semester 2011, Sweden will be introducing application and tuition fees for some international students who apply for courses and programmes at universities and university colleges. For more information please consult the following webpage: https://www.studera.nu. There will also be a charge for students from outside EU/EEA if they choose to take a degree in Denmark. The tuition fee is on the order of 5000 per semester but is not applying to students that are only taking one semester in Denmark. These rules are due to the current legislation in the different countries and may be subject for change in the future. In Iceland there is a study fee on the order of 300 annually. Also, there may be minor compulsory fees to the student union(s) and fees for insurances. Students are encouraged to seek information on their own for updated information on fees and insurances that is valid to the universities they will spend time.
