Traces of Grace
Dear Fellow Parishioners; Pentecost finished our Easter season last weekend and we now return to Ordinary Time. In this season of liturgical change, our parish will be experiencing some other changes as well. The days are longer and warmer (well, most of the time!) signaling summertime when our schedules and activities change. Graduations will be changing many peoples lives, for both the individuals as well as their families. This is also a time when clergy transfers take place as well. Fr. Loc Tran who arrived here 4 years ago in July as a newly minted priest will be leaving us this July to take another assignment. He will only be moving a hop, skip and a bump to St. Timothys in Laguna Niguel. Even though he will be close by, he will be engaging another faith community which will need his gifts, gentle spirit and care and so he will need to say goodbye to us. I know he will miss us and I know for myself I will miss him. Fr. Loc has been a blessing to us and I know you have been a source of grace and opportunity to minister for him. Now that I think of it, Fr. Loc is our first Asian American priest in the history of our parish. I would say that he has set the bar high. Please join with the parish on the weekend of June 23/24 as we celebrate his time with us after each of the weekend Masses in Knight Hall. It will be our chance to say goodbye to a good priest. Also, on Sunday, June 24 at the 11:00am Mass, Fr. Loc will be celebrating his goodbye Mass. Plan on attending! With Fr Loc leaving, we will not be receiving a priest to replace him. The bishop has made that decision based on the needs of the Church of Orange. While we will have fewer priests, we will continue to serve this community with the same care and devotion. We will be making some adjustments to staff and scheduling as we go forward, but for now we will be welcoming Fr. Achilles Mayanja from Uganda with us for some time this summer as well as Fr. Mel Long later in the summer months. God provides! May all changes in your lives be a blessing. Together in Christ; Fr Steve Pastor

Christ Caring for People through People We think of summer as being a relaxing, enjoyable time. But hurts, struggles, and problems don't take a vacation. Many times our difficulties seem even worse during the summer because everyone else seems to be enjoying life while you are feeling down. If you are experiencing a difficult time--you don't have to suffer alone. Our Stephen Ministers are trained caregivers, ready to listen, and encourage you, pray with and for you. It's free. It's confidential. Call Stephen Ministry at 949-496-1307 x2503 or email stephenministry@stedward.com. Feast of the Most Holy Trinity Prayer is Dialogue With The Most Holy Trinity "Faith is being actualized through prayer in a particular way since prayer, which is initiated and developed through faith, is the dialogue between man and God the father through Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit." Fr. Tadeusz Dajczer, The Gift of Faith, page 166 Join the Families of Nazareth formation group every Wednesday for 1 hour at 1:00 P.M. in the church cry room to help live out our call to holiness in the midst of the very real challenges of family life today.
The 2012 National Assembly of the Society of SVdP will take place in Seattle on August 29 through Sept.1. The thought-provoking agenda has "servant leadership" and "systemic change" as the two centerpieces of the agenda. The various sessions with an impressive lineup of speakers are very important because they are the critical drivers of the Society's long-range strategic plan. There are several plenary sessions with Sheila Gilbert, the National President of SVdP. Interested Vincentians can access www. svdpusa.org. to register. HELP US HELP OTHERS
Transplant results were published in the New England Journal of Medicine. A [Mr.] Brown was treated for leukemia with an adult stem cell (not an embryonic cell) transplant, which is becoming a standard treatment. But the doctors, knowing that Brown had AIDS, used specific adult stem cells from a donor selected because the donors cells lacked a key protein, CCR5, that the AIDS virus must bind to in order to infect a cell. Not only did Brown recover from his leukemia, but the AIDS virus seemed to disappear from his system. Life News (HELP, EMPATHY, LOVE, & PRAYER) SUPPORT GROUP FOR THOSE WITH ANY CHRONIC ILLNESS AND/OR CAREGIVERS. You have heard that it was said, an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. But now I tell you: do not take revenge on someone who wrongs you. (Matthew 5:38-39) Join the Catholic Social Justice Ministry as we campaign to eliminate the death penalty and replace it with life without the possibility of parole. Our next meeting is June 12, 2012, 7:00 PM, in the Church Meeting Room. Please join us after the 5:30 p.m. Mass every Tuesday to pray for peace. Our Lady of Fatima in 1917 asked for prayers and rosaries to obtain peace for the world. Now, more then ever we must respond to Our Blessed Mothers urgent call. WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE SANCTIFICATION OF THE CLERGY SOLEMNITY OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS JUNE 15, 2012 O my Jesus, I beg You on behalf of the whole Church: grant it love and the light of Your Spirit, and give power to the words of Priests so that hardened hearts might be brought to repentance and return to You, O Lord. Lord, give us holy Priests; You Yourself maintain them in holiness. O Divine and Great High Priest, may the power of Your mercy accompany them everywhere and protect them from the devils traps and snares which are continually being set for the souls of Priests. May the power of Your mercy, O Lord, shatter and bring to naught all that might tarnish the sanctity of Priests, for You can do all things. My beloved Jesus, I pray to You for the triumph of the Church, that You may bless the Holy Father and all Clergy; I beg You to grant the grace of conversion to sinners whose hearts have been hardened by sin, and a special blessing and light to Priests, to whom I shall confess for all of my life. (St. Faustina Kowalska) Bishop Cordileone lauds North Carolina The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has issued a statement praising the voters of North Carolina for approving marriage amendment to their state constitution. The amendment, which passed by a wide margin (61%-39%), declares that marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this state and thus prevents the legalization of civil unions as well as same-sex marriage. The success of this amendment demonstrates peoples awareness of the essential role that marriage, as the union of a man and a woman, plays for the common good, said Bishop Salvatore Cordileone of Oakland, chairman of the bishops Subcommittee on the Promotion and Defense of Marriage. This is not a partisan issue, but a matter of justice, fairness and equality for the law to uphold every childs basic right to be welcomed and raised by his or her mother and father together, Bishop Cordileone added. I extend my gratitude to all of the people in North Carolina who worked tirelessly to make this a reality. The people of North Carolina join millions of other Americans in affirming the importance of marriage in our society. Catholic World News, May 11.
