THE LEADER INTEGRATOR:
A Special MAP Programme for Board Members and Chief Executives The Leader Integrator is an emerging role of Board members and Chief Executives in 21stcentury management. The concept and its related set of practices have been pioneered by Prof. Usman A. Ghani and was published first as an invited chapter in the last Drucker book, The Leader of the Future 2, in 2006. Since then, several organizations worldwide are adopting it in their boards and with top leadership. Contrary to commonly held belief that General Management amasses the resources of the organization, the reality is that synergy is often missed. Organizations and their stakeholders attain less than their potential. There are several reasons for this: For example: the nature of specialization in and around organizations today; the increasing dependence of organizations on external conditions; the constriction with which board-chief relationship is defined; the very nature of the changing role of the Chief Executive; etc. Taking just one of these for instance, i.e., the inherent and increasing depth of specialization on the positive side has deepened functional roles and their specific results. Organizations now have more and more of functional expertise in Accounting, Finance, HR, IT, Operations (Supply Chain), Service Management, etc. This benefit though comes at a cost that multiplies as we rise higher in the organization because fewer processes are in place to integrate their contribution and generate synergy at the top. With this time-pressed functional activity, communication across functions becomes even more limited. The organizational system churns giving semblance of productivity but systemic progress does not necessarily results. Adding more processes lower in the organization would mean even more costs. So the top leadership of the organization must create integration. It is eventually the Chief Executive where accountability (and responsibility) for synergy is held most. A redefinition of the role of the Chief Executive is needed to generate integrative goals, create systemic structures, build holistic processes, and foster true teamwork. This is even more essential when we look at the integrative results that the Board members seek of an organization. The Leader Integrator provides the conceptual tools and pragmatic practices to make this happen while simplifying the role of the Chief Executive and the Board for this century.

METHODOLOGY.
This workshop will include pre-work, short lectures, group exercises, reflections, film, and action-steps listing. Collectively, these will enable the 25 participants to actually implement important takeaways from the programme. Based on this foundational workshop, MAP may hold advanced 1-day modules in the future. A significant portion of this foundational workshop will be based on the actual top-leadership issues of the participants. Prof. Ghani will contact a few MAP members in advance to get a sense of the current Board and Chief Executive issues so as to make the programme more anchored in reality. The data and information shared will be kept confidential and no person or organizational names will be revealed during the workshop. The Leader Integrator programme starts at 9 a.m. sharp and concludes at 6 p.m. on time. Coffee breaks will be at 10.30 a.m. and 3.30 p.m., and lunch will be served 1-2 p.m. Participants who will attend the entire programme will be awarded a certificate at the conclusion.
