KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 (Bernama) --

An ecologically oriented
complementary medical research
concludes that the imbalance of body
fluids that results in the accumulation
of calcium in the soft tissues of the
body contributes to many of the
disorders common to humans,
contrary to many established scientific opinions.

Ecologist Dr V.M. Palaniappan who has conducted disease prevention studies for
more than three decades says his findings are poised to revolutionise the field
of health science.

"I am optimistic that the people of the world would soon realise of this
significant finding which in fact provides a viable strategy for leading a life free
from health related problems," said the former University Malaya don,
affectionately known as Dr Palani.

OTHER CONTRIBUTING FACTORS

Dr Palani, when met at his office in Bandar Sri Damansara near here, said he
strongly believes that there are other contributing factors for even those
diseases that are now being accepted as genetically linked.

Dr Palani begs to differ from the conventional wisdom on how health problems
originate, as his studies and observation have revealed some interesting
patterns all directly or indirectly linked to fluid (water) imbalance and related
calcium accumulation in the soft tissues.

He firmly believes that a person drinking about 2 to 21/2 litres of water daily
and voiding nearly all of it through 8-10 urinations, so as to maintain the Liquid
Input-Urine Output Ratio at 1.0 all the time, and eating moderate quantities of
any food, avoiding accumulation of poisons from external and internal sources,
and doing his day-to-day physical activities without any sweat-inducing
exercises need not worry of health problems with the exception of common
cold.

The latter should be considered as a body-friendly illness, for it sets right the
acid-alkaline balance of the body, which is a must for the well being of humans.

THE PATTERNS OBSERVED

Liberal water consumption (about 4 litres daily), under-urination (less than 4

times), sweat-inducing activities which include strenuous physical exercises,
hot-water bath and usage of fan at rapid speed give rise to asthma, nagging
cough, sinus problem, profuse sweating and frequent urination called diabetes
insipidus.

Under-urination (less than thrice daily) with about 1 to 4 litres of water intake
and avoiding carbohydrates and sugars give rise to the type-2 diabetes mellitus
and pregnancy diabetes.

Chronic constipation and sweat-inducing activities appear to cause further

deterioration of all the three types of diabetes mentioned above. Dr Palani is
also of the opinion that excessive carbohydrate or sugar consumption, and
along with under-urination (irrespective of the quantity of water consumed)
causes insulin-dependent diabetes alone and has nothing to do with other
health problems.

Extreme reduction in water intake (e.g. less than 200 ml daily), colossal under-
urination (e.g. 100ml daily) and chronic constipation could give rise to leprosy
as well. Dr Palani says the bacterium called Mycobacterium leprae is only a
secondary invader and it does not give rise to leprosy on its own.

The duodenal ulcer occurs due to the shortage of energy from food, and the
bacteria H. pylori that is said to be the culprit for the disease is only a
secondary invader.

PROBLEMS RELATED TO UNDER URINATION

Accumulation of excessive calcium in the soft tissues of the body due to under-
urination (e.g. less than 3 times daily), reduced water consumption (e.g. half
litre daily), chronic constipation, and taking calcium and vitamin-D enriched
foods give rise to the following problems: disease-causing obesity, breast
lumps, cysts, fibroids, pregnancy outside the womb, cervical cancer, reduced
sex drive, female and male sterility, delayed puberty, erratic menses, early
menopause, white discharge, whitening of the skin called vitiligo, kidney
stones, prostate problems, eye-bags, swelling of thyroid gland, high blood
pressure, increase in the size and number of white blood cells, myelocytic
leukaemia, blood vessel thickening and heart blockages, heart pain, heart
attacks, strokes in men, tumours and most of the cancers and partial deafness.

According to Dr Palani, the same set of causes described above is also

responsible for osteoporosis and massive heart attack in women soon after
menopause.

Again, the same set of causes, coupled with over-straining activities like
marathon run may cause lymphatic leukaemia. On the other hand, severe
exposure to harmful radiation and intake poisonous chemicals tend to cause
acute myeloid leukaemia.

Although excessive calcium gives rise to several major diseases, it also provides
tremendous immunity against viral infections.

EXCESSIVE URINATION ALSO A PROBLEM

On the other hand, Dr Palani pointed out that excessive-urination (e.g. more
than 14 times daily) after consuming excessive water (e.g. more than 4 litres
daily) could give rise to the following health problems: skeletal body, duodenal
ulcer, low blood pressure, rapid heart beat, tension and stress, under-developed
breasts, severe pre-menstrual pain, erratic menses, short-sightedness,
hyperactive behaviour in children, rheumatism, arthritis, gout, pre-mature grey
hair, sore throat, common cold, and loss of immunity against viral diseases.

He explained that a drastic reduction in food consumption alone, without

increasing water intake and urination, would not help in the prevention of
disorders and diseases. Furthermore, since sweat-out exercises tend to reduce
the quantity of urination, they would only speed up the development of all the
major health problems.

Besides causing the deterioration of diseases, chronic constipation appears to

be responsible for increased cholesterol and sugar levels in the blood, cancer in
the colon and also certain skin diseases.

Dr Palani is currently conducting group therapy programmes for the needy, and
is also busy writing his next book on diabetes. He can be contacted at tel: (6-
