Boyd 2nd English 1 May 2012 Jazzius: The God of Jazz or Un-traditional music 1. Jazzius is a ten foot tall, muscular, and strong deity. He lives on the Island of Musia with his family. He wears a hooded black and gold silked cloak, a man skirt made of the finest leather, and has the best hand made sandals made by the nymphs in Sandalia. The weapon he uses is the Sword of Jazz, made by Hephaestus, it is the strongest weapon in Mythology after Zeuss lightning bolt. Whenever Jazzius strikes with his sword the world falls into a state a state of defiance and disobedience because thats what jazz is, a genre that defies the traditional way of doing things musical. 2. The birth story of Jazzius is a very interesting one. Jazzius is the son of Apollo, the god of Traditional Music. Apollo is usually not a sexually active God, but one day while making music is a field near the town of Omnia he saw a beautiful woman almost as beautiful as Helen of Troy. This womans name was Secrecia and she was the most beautiful thing Apollo had every seen. Secrecria was a defying, stubborn, disobedient, careless woman; she did things her own way and never followed any rules. Secrecia was

Smith 1 created by Hera so she could torture Zeus because Zeus loved good-looking women and Secrecia was one of the best looking women. Even though Secrecia was gorgeous Zeus would never have her because of her defiance. Apollo knew of her issue so he used a love potion that know one could resist so Secrecia fell in love with him. Apollo married Secrecia and they bore a son they named Jazzius. Like his mother, Jazzius was a very disobedient child not listening to anything Apollo taught him about music. Now since Jazzius was a defiant child he started to write and compose music on the piano totally different from the traditional style. He named this style of music Jazz. Apollo hated listening to his son play this music, which Apollo called trash, so Apollo told his to stop playing. But his son wouldnt listen. Eventually Apollo got so tired of hearing this trash he just locked Jazzius in a chamber far away from where they lived. In this chamber Jazzius developed his jazz skills on piano, becoming the best musician in the world of mythology. He familiarized himself with the traditional music (Classical) so he could defy every aspect of it. 3. As stated before, Jazzius is the God of jazz and un-traditional music. Jazzius, while in his solitude, developed every sub-category of Jazz such as Bop, Blues, Afro-Cuban, and Big Band. Jazzius also created every theoretical aspect of Jazz such as the 2-5-1, rhythm changes, and blues progressions. When Jazzius escaped his

Smith 1 imprisonment he had followers who wanted to learn his style of un-traditional music, so he started a school called College of Music. Later Jazzius had a very bright student named Berkleseus who he let take over the school. Berkleseus renamed the school Berklee College of Music after himself and this is where people learn the un-traditional style of playing music. 4. Jazzius has a wife and three children. His wifes name is Bassia. She plays the bass, which is an instrument, used in most traditional music, but Jazzius adapted it to his style of music and the bass is now an essential piece of any Jazz group. He has two sons one named Saxophonius and the other named Trombonallo. Jazzius also has a daughter named Marsalis. The family gets along very well, always making new types of Jazz to share with Berkleseus to teach to his students at Berklee. No other God except of Hades likes Jazzius and his family due their defiance to them. 5. Jazzius loved his three children and would do anything for them. His children knew every aspect of Jazz just as Jazzius did, but they were not applying their extensive knowledge of Jazz to any instrument. This fact made Jazzius worry that they would lose their knowledge if they did not apply it to anything. Jazzius traveled to Hephaestus and asked him to make his children instruments that were compatible with their personalities. Marsalis was a very

Smith 1 bright person with a high-pitched voice who always wanted to get her point across, so Hephaestus used Marsaliss personality and put into an instrument, which he called the trumpet. This is why the trumpet is a loud, high-ranging, and bright instrument. Saxophonius was the most unique of Jazziuss three children, so Hephaestus made an instrument like no other called the saxophone; Hephaestus made the saxophone the most unique looking and sounding instrument in all of mythology. Lastly their was Trombonallo, who was the best looking and coolest of Jazziuss three children. For him Hephaestus made an instrument he called the trombone. Unlike the trumpet or saxophone the trombone had a slide mechanism, which was just right for Trombonallo because of the instruments coolness and sexiness. Jazzius thanked Hephaestus and took the instruments back to his children. The three honed their skills at their instruments and became the gods of the instrument they used. Since the children are the children of Jazzius the founder of all Jazz, all jazz uses the Trumpet, Trombone, and Saxophone in its compositions.
