Tropical Butterfly Conservatory to come up in TN

A Tropical Butterfly conservatory would be set up in Srirangam, Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs 8.61 crore. The conservatory is being established to protect butterfly species and creating awareness among public the importance of butterfly in maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity. The conservatory would come up at Upper Anicut Reserve forest and preliminary works would begin soon.

e-waste dumping illegal from now on: violation can lead to jail

Dumping of e-waste, comprising electronic items like television sets, mobile phones and computers is illegal from now on. It is also illegal to sell e-waste to local scrap dealers. Under the Electronic Waste (Management and Handling) Rules 2011, notified a year ago has come into effect from today, such waste must be routed to one of 73 authorized recyclers in India. As per the law, non-compliance can entail imprisonment or a fine. As of now, these penalties are only for manufactures and bulk consumers. e-waste now has to be disposed off directly to authorized collection centres or directly to any authorized recycler or the manufacturer. India's e-waste has hit an all-time high estimated at around eight lakh metric tonnes in 2012.

Vahanvati re-appointed as Attorney General

The President Mrs Pratibha Devi Singh Patil has re-appointed Goolam E. Vahanvati as Attorney-General for two more years effective from 8th of next month. Mr. Vahanvati was appointed to the post in 2009 for three years. Earlier, Mr. Vahanvati has served as SolicitorGeneral .

China India trade at Nathu La resumes

Border trade at Nathula, one of the three open trading border posts between China and India resumed in Sikkim's East district this morning and will continue till 30 November, 2012. Agreements between New Delhi and Beijing limit trade across Nathula to 29 types of goods from India and 15 from the Chinese side after it was reopened in 2006.

Delta Airlines world's first carrier to produce own fuel

U.S.-based Delta Airlines will soon become the world's first air carrier to produce its own jet fuel. Delta announced it is buying a oil refinery near Philadelphia from the Phillips 66 oil company for 150 million Dollars for the purpose. Delta spent 12 billion dollar on jet fuel last year, which was about 36 percent of its operating expenses. Delta held that making its own fuel will save it about $ 300 million a year.
