TWB STRATEGIES FOR HIV-AIDS EDUCATION


Training for behavior change communication and information-education-
communication materials and media, and operational sub-agreements to increase the
effectiveness of NGOs (non-governmental organizations) and CSOs (civil-society
organizations) in changing high-risk behaviors and norms, with particular attention to
stressing the importance of families, communities, PLWHAs (People Living with HIV-
AIDS), personal experience, peer groups and interpersonal communication.

Training and pilot activities to incorporate prevention and high-risk behavior change
information and skills into clinical and non-clinical treatment and care services.

Training and operational (e.g. sub-agreements) assistance to NGOs (as well as private
workplace interventions) to mobilize communities for prevention education, such as
community discussions on alcohol and high risk sex, fidelity, transactional sex, condom
use, vulnerability of young women.

Training and operational (e.g. sub-agreements) assistance to organizations focused on


people living with AIDS to promote and support behavior change, including
partner/family testing and "prevention for positives" and health promotion for PLWHA.

Wherever and whenever possible, material support for workshops, conferences, and other
forums to build capacities of NGOs for prevention.

Training and support to NGOs/Community-Based organizations that have not


traditionally addressed HIV/AIDS or health to encourage them to undertake worksite or
program site prevention programs, e.g. military, food workers, media organizations, trade
unions.

Training to improve follow-up and case management of mother-infant pairs, including


increased numbers of infants tested at 15 months, through aforementioned strengthened
referrals clinics and community-based groups/associations.

Training and development and dissemination of vetted materials and media to increase
attendance at workshops by creating non-formal community learning opportunities in
proximity to densely populated areas.

Support to foster partnerships between health facilities, pediatric HIV services, and
community other community-based care and support organizations/associations to assure
effective cross-referrals, coordination, communication and clinical (including
psychological) monitoring and tracking between health facilities and communities and
back.

Training to strengthen and formalize referral systems between community-based care and
support organizations/associations/programs and health facilities to assure patient follow-
up between community service provision and provider(s).

Training for health networks (clinics and communities) to strengthen/develop information


systems and patient record keeping and tracking systems, including mechanisms to track
and follow-up on referrals to and from community service organizations.
