Preparation:
Step 1: Cut a piece of the scrapbook paper to t the tray insert. I chose this newsprint variety, but you can use a photo copy or a laser print of actual newsprint too they all work. Step 2: Apply a liberal coat of DecoArt Decou-page to one side of the panel using the 3/4 angle and lay the paper into it, take the time to ensure that it ts neatly. Apply a generous coat of the DecouPage over the paper (starting at the center and working out to the edges) and brush out any bubbles and wrinkles that may form. You want to have a few brush marks and ridges, so dont worry about brushing them out completely. Let it dry thoroughly. 1

Step 3: With the 3/4 angle and Asphaltum apply a nice wide oat to the edges of the insert. Allow this to dry well. Trace and transfer the main pattern lines to the insert using either Gray or White Graphite paper. ** TIP: Transferring onto a textured surface can be a little difcult at times... make your life easier by keeping the applications thin ( The illusion of a great deal of texture is the best ), and allowing each coat of texture, paint and glaze to dry well before attempting to transfer an image to it. Graphite paper will not transfer easily to a surface that is not completely dry.

Painting Instructions:
The Bottle and Glasses Open the jar of Texture Paste, note the consistency. It reminds me of the thick white paste we used in grade school. Place a quantity (approx. cup) on the palette, close the jar and go back to it if you need more. Clean the edges of the jar to ensure that it reseals properly. I texture everything using the lbert brushes, use the brush that best ts each area. First we want to establish the base color of the wine bottle rst. This is a simple wash of Plantation Pine, keep it darker at the right edge of the bottle and weaker toward the left. This green is very transparent but for this technique it works in our favor by helping the bottle LOOK transparent. Base coat the wine in the glass with Tuscan Red. The red wine is shaded with a weak oat of Soft Black to the right side. Once dry, brush on a coat of Texture Paste over the bottle and the wine glass. Be sure to just slip slap it on, let the brush marks remain ( dont be neat) cross hatch on a fairly heavy coat. Let it dry. Because its transparent when dry we can create texture over top of an existing color, and then apply glazes or paint over top of it to garner great depth and unique effects. Float in the shadows on the right and bottom of the bottle with Soft Black. You may have to go back in and deepen the shadows some more after the rest of the painting has been painted, to ensure that the shadows are dark enough. The highlight on the center left of each of the bottles is a dry brush of Warm White with the nal light impact point being a stroke of Warm White. Outline the wine glass with thinned Warm White using the Script Liner. Dry brush the nal highlight to the glass using a Blender Brush, on the left side of the glass. The Red Grapes: Mix Texture Paste with Tuscan Red to make a thick paint, and ll in each grape. Leave it a bit lumpy and irregular. Let the grapes dry. Shade them with a oat of Soft Black and highlight them with a dry brush of Warm White. The stems are simply painted with Asphaltum and then a small highlight of Warm White is stroked onto the upper left side with a Script Liner. The Leaves: Mix Texture Paste with Antique Green and basecoat the leaves allowing ne brush marks to remain in the leaves. Be sure to pull the paint from the edge of the leaf to the center where they meet the grapes. This will create the ne stria in the leaves. Shade them in all areas with oats of Plantation Pine. Add highlights by chisel blending the edges with a little Olive Green , nally add a few oats of Tuscan Red to a few small areas on the edges of the leaves, for a little reected color. Dry brush the highlights onto the leaves, opposite the shadows in the center vein with a brush mix of Olive Green and Warm White and then add just Warm White highlights here and there. The Relief: Transfer the lines of the Fleur de Lis using Gray Graphite Paper (or use the stencil) onto the upper 2

left corner of the insert. Apply Texture paste as you have before, while the paste is still wet, sprinkle on a generous amount of JoSonja Gold Dust. Allow to dry well and with a soft brush dust off the excess glitter. (Or, if youre using the stencil, apply a thin layer of the Texture Paste over the image using the palette knife; carefully remove the stencil, by holding down a lower corner and pulling the upper corner back toward you. Let it dry. Clean your stencil and reposition it over the dry relief, apply an irregular coat of Decou-Page Medium. Remove and clean the stencil. While the medium is still wet, sprinkle on a generous amount of JoSonja Gold Dust. Let this dry well, and with a soft brush dust off the excess glitter.) With either method, you will achieve the desired result. The Lettering: The backside of the insert is basecoated with DecoArt Chalkboard paint. Apply according to the directions provided on the bottle. When dry, basecoat the lettering using the liner and Warm White. When dry apply a oat of Asphaltum to the bottom of the lettering and the stroke work below it. Let dry thoroughly.

Finishing:
When the tray is completely dry, apply three to four light coats of DecoArt Americana Acrylic Spray Finisher/Sealer Matte, to both sides of the insert. Let each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next.
