State Exports Rose by 7% in 2011

Gov. OMalley joined more than 350 Maryland business leaders at the 16th Annual World Center Institutes International Business Leadership Awards, and announced that the State climbed 7% to $10.8 billion in 2011 - a figure that nearly reaches a state export high of $11 in 2008 and shows a recovery to pre-recession levels. Trade with China and India amon countries targeted as part of the States trade missions last year also increased, with exp China Marylands second largest trading partner rising by $93 million, and exports to In growing by $20 million. Following his remarks, the Governor presented the International Le Award to Frank Burch, Global Co-Chairman of DLA Piper.

Baltimores Premier Rides has been tapped to create the world's tallest indoor roller coaste of the Great Mall of China near Beijing. The coaster, which will be designed and built in Ma will serve as the signature attraction for what is expected to be the largest shopping mall w Asia-Pacific region when it opens in 2013. Port Lands Deal with German Container Carrier

German shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd, chose Baltimore over other East Coast cities as its fi stop for direct shipping from Northern Europe. The worlds fifth-largest container shipping c expected to bring up to 30,000 containers of traffic through the port annually. The service, began last month, will boost container traffic at the port by 10 percent, create nearly 600 n Maryland workers, and further raise the region's profile within the maritime industry.
