C-09

Xavier Jouve 1, PhD, FCS 2 Copyright 2008-2011

To read carefully This questionnaire has been prepared with both verbal and nonverbal items. For practical reasons, only one try is accepted, please take your time to work, and submit your answers only after having given your best. In order to submit answers please use the computerized form available on Cogn-IQ.org. The two parts of the test are called Whats next? and Which word?, and both gather fifty items. Each one counts 1 point, and there is no disadvantage for wrong answers, therefore maximum possible raw scores for the parts and the composite scale are 50 and 100 respectively. Correct spelling of words in the verbal part is not mandatory as long as the word is still phonetically understandable. Questions are not arranged in ascending order of difficulty. In fact, items arrangement has been randomly executed. The first part is inspired by the EPC-L and EPC-C (Jouve, 2005a, 2005b). Problems have been carefully prepared in regard to the structural processes of those which shown the best psychometric properties. Please, do not use references or assistance. The use of any kind of reference aids is not allowed. Any assistance from other persons is prohibited. Taking the C-09 is completely free. However, if you appreciate it and would like to support all the work done to make it available, a PayPal donation to donation@cogn-iq.org would be more than welcome. Thank you so much in advance for your support! Moreover, to our knowledge, the C-09 is accepted in order to apply to the CIVIQ Society. If you wish to have your score confirmed to them, please send $20 by PayPal to donation@cerebrals.org. An official confirmation will be sent you instead of a simple email. This fee will then serve to cover the operating costs of both cogn-iq.org and cerebrals.org.

Whats next? Although this part of the questionnaire is prepared with numbers, acquired knowledge in mathematics is reduced to bare minimum. Apart from primary-school level basic arithmetic, such as addition and subtraction, numbers are chiefly used as symbols and might have been replaced by drawings, or figures. These sequences involve induction, in other words, to find a specific rule and to generalize it. Difficulty mainly grows as a function of the number of rules to deal with in order to find missing elements.

Which word? The following questions are prepared to be as cross-cultural as possible. Nevertheless, Basic English proficiency is required. One has to find the word that corresponds to both the meaning and the given beginning letters.
