KADUNA POLYTECHNIC (CES) INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY FOR COMMON TASK [it4COT (This is a learning-by-doing series: Version 1.0) a- Staff Level: This will be exclusively for both academic and non academic staff of the institution, with seclusion on ACTIVITY CLUSTERS based on individual job specifications. b- Campus-Wide-Level: This is exclusively for Students of the institution, with seclusion on ACTIVITY CLUSTERS based on individual course of study c- Community Level: The institutions mandate comprise community service, hence this is for person living within campus hos communities.

TARGET AUDIENCE: Anyone using ICT as part of their jobs role and/or studies, and for anyone- who works with a computer or wishes to work with a computer. LEARNING OUTCOME: To help learners do their jobs with fewer mistakes and more confidence than they would have had without taking this training course.

DELIEVERY METHOD: The learning-by-doing pedagogy is a practical and refreshing instructional approach that teaches practical job skills that learners can remember and apply as needed at work. It is an instructional approach that allows learners to construct knowledge through experience by emphasizing learning rather than teaching, this approach differs by being committed to having people learn by doing activities that simulate real situations that they face or could face at work, studies, or for life.

INSTRUCTION:

A combination of classroom setting: lecture based, supported by multimedia/ training manuals, AND a web-based learning management system [LMS] powering self-paced learning whereby learner is instructed to read page after page of information remotely at convenience; assigned practical tasks, and is tested and assessed. This is a Skill Proficiency Award in Information Technology, qualifying learner to take the internationally recognized International Computers Drivers License [ICDL] at the end of the training program. Five (5) months Classified as follows: Contact sessions (8wks); Testing Sessions (3wks); Evaluation Sessions (1wk); Shadow mentoring Sessions (8wks) To be determined by local coordinating committee relative to college/faculty/department

T&PD MANAGEMENT AND COORDINATION STRUCTURE


COORINATING COMMITTEE: This is a joint committee comprising selected persons from the program proponents and beneficiary colleges/faculties/departments of the institution. TASK: Develop and maintain the program; Develop hopeful outcomes of the program; Assess effectiveness of program; Offer support to facilitators; Consider developing an assessment instrument for individual core competencies; Determine training needs by consulting with key stakeholders; Work with various experts on campus to help with training; Coordinate logistics; Possibly coordinate learner development, shadow mentoring, reward recognition; Present and/or publish program information to internal and external audiences; Training costs/fees

PROGRAM FRAMEWORK: Our framework for training and professional development (T&PD) starts with broad principles from the outer layer to examples of more specific desired outcomes in the inner most layers. The outer layer represents values that are common points. The shaded boxes are more specific professional values that help define the broader values in the corresponding outer most layer. PROGRAM KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT: All training [T&PD] information will be housed in one place online. This online place will include the following functions:

Calendar of training opportunities, including current, upcoming and past Feature for registration of trainings Reminder emails about upcoming trainings (auto-generated) Centralized system for tracking trainings which the user has participated in Evaluation system and way for participants to provide feedback Suggestion box Feature allowing people to nominate presenters/trainers and speakers on a particular topic Clearinghouse of training information and a storage place Details on the training modules, with detailed descriptions and an initial assessment of who would benefit, what level the trainings List of content/subject matter experts with contact information and their areas of expertise Webinar links Links to tech support Fields found on standard websites, such as About and Contacts

CONCLUSION:

We hope to replicate this model for Basic Computer Skill Acquisition in the other colleges of the institution.
