START A MATRIX PROJECT 4 STEPS TO ORDER AND FULFILL

Step 1: Account team orders the Matrix Starter kit
Customers may buy Expansion Kits at same time (or buy later) if more than one enclosure is desired. If the order includes a EVA 4400 Starter Kit, then a Factory Express Engagement Program Manager is engaged to help

Step 2: Factory Express team verifies order, performs hardware config, including firmware verification/updating, and LUN creation (if EVA4400 purchased with Starter Kit) Step 3: Customer contacted by Technology Services project manager to complete pre-install checklist (SDR)
Customer contact name is taken from the SDR

Step 4: Technology Services performs onsite installation; final demo and knowledge transfer to customer; overview of additional service opportunities

CONSIDERATIONS FOR MIXED MATRIX ENVIRONMENTS

Two things to consider for mixing Server Blade types in an enclosure are size (full height/half height) and I/O capability
All Integrity Blades are full height and thus require the enclosure quadrant support shelf to be removed Later generation Servers have full bandwidth capability in all mezz slots and integrated Flex-10 capable or FlexFabric network controllers Keep these differences in mind when architecting a Matrix solution

Configuration rules An upgrade creates a new server, so all rules for CPU, memory, and IO must be followed
CPU SKUs must match across the new system Memory configuration must follow loading rules for the new server

Minimum memory Memory types (e.g. 2GB DIMMs not supported in BL870c i2 or BL890c i2)

Server bay position and partner blade position rules must be followed
Partner blade must be in the same quad as the monarch (i.e. BL870c i2 upgrade must use BL2E Blade Link and partner blade must be in the slot to the left.)

Check system for minimum required firmware (server, OA, VC) and update if necessary

Add Resources
Power down system, unassign VC profiles, remove original Blade Link Install upgrade blades (as appropriate) and Upgrade Blade Link System information exchanged serial number and UUID is transferred from the monarch of the upgrade system both electronically and physically using the system label carrier

Final Check
Perform final check of system and update firmware as necessary Assign VC profile (if applicable) Reinstall Operating Environment as necessary*

When the customer moves to a higher HW tier, a new SW license is required. For BL8x0c i2 Upgrades, HP-UX will offer credit for the original license to be applied to the purchase price of the new license. (Partial Credit)
Each license on a lower tier can be traded-in towards the purchase of a license on the target tier. The original license is surrendered to and a new license is issued. The credit reflects the current price of the original license, not the original purchase price. The credit cannot exceed the purchase price of the new license.
