Preparing Files for Production
Assemble student edition, searchable, hi-resolution (printer) PDFs for all pages that you would like included in your eBook product. Create a folder on your hard drive. Name the folder with the corresponding Parent Print 13-digit ISBN. Please double-check the ISBN for accuracy/typographical errors and do not use spaces or special characters. An example of an acceptable filename is: 9780136155607. IMPORTANT: Our vendor will NOT search for your files using anything other than the Parent Print ISBN-13. Naming a folder anything other than this will result in a delay of your title. Place all of the PDFs you would like converted for your title into the folder. Please be sure to include the full frontmatter. Compress the folder using WinZip or Stuffit. For folders that are larger than 200 MB, it is recommended that you break the contents into individual parts and compress them each separately. You can also use the segmenting feature available with most compression utilities. See the Compressing and Segmenting Files section at the end of this document for further instructions. If you would like to include content such as inside front or back cover material, color inserts, transparencies, or tear cards, please ensure that you include the PDFs for these items in your folder. If you need to upload these special section PDFs separately from the main textbook PDFs, please follow the instructions at the end of this document for Reprocessing Files. Please also ensure that you provide instructions for what to call any special sections, and where to place them in the TOC hierarchy, in the Special Sections Information field on your conversion request form

Uploading your Files

Upload your initial files to the following ftp server location: ftp://cmg002:lLT244@cmgftp.pearsoned.com/production Server: cmgftp.pearsoned.com Username: cmg002 Password: lLT244 Initial directory: production Please note that we will not process any files that are not formatted using the instructions above. Unfortunately, any files that do not use the 13-digit Parent Print ISBN will be sent back for correction and this will delay the in-stock date of your product. IMPORTANT: If you are uploading replacement or missing files after your initial file upload to the production directory, please see the section below called Reprocessing Files for the correct server location.

Submitting the Conversion Request Form

Fill out the CourseSmart / ePub / uPDF Conversion Request form. You can add any additional information we will need to know about your title in the Additional Comments area of this form: http://wpslive.pearsoncmg.com/cmg_forms_library/170/43722/11192871.cw/inde x.html If you are requesting a CourseSmart For Review Only conversion you will fill out a separate form: http://wpslive.pearsoncmg.com/cmg_forms_library/125/32127/822475 1.cw/index.html

Reprocessing Files
During the production of your eBook product, if any PDF files are found to be corrupt or to have other issues, the CMS Project Manager will request that you provide clean PDFs to replace those particular files. An email will be sent listing the PDF filename, issue present, and instructions on where to post the new file or files. The reprocess directory below can also be used to upload special section files such as front/back matter, color inserts, etc. if they cannot be included in the main textbook production upload. Please use the same 13-digit Parent Print ISBN for the filename/folder of any special section files uploaded to the

CourseSmart / ePub / uPDF File Submission Guidelines reprocess directory, and include this information on your conversion request form. Upload your file(s) for reprocessing to the following ftp server location: ftp://cmg002:lLT244@cmgftp.pearsoned.com/reprocess Server: cmgftp.pearsoned.com Username: cmg002 Password: lLT244 Initial directory: reprocess If you are uploading replacement files, please contact the CMS Project Manager to advise when these files are available, so that the vendor can be instructed to proceed with the conversion of your title.

IMPORTANT: For folders that are larger than 200 MB, it is recommended that you break the contents into individual parts and compress them each separately. You can also use the segmenting feature available with most compression utilities. WinZip 10.0 segmenting instructions: WinZip makes it easy to create Zip files that are split into smaller pieces of a size that you specify.

CourseSmart / ePub / uPDF File Submission Guidelines To split a new Zip file into smaller pieces: When the new Zip file is being created, simply select the size you want for each part from Split Zip file in the Add dialog. To specify your own size, choose "Other size" in the drop-down list and type the desired size in the Other size field. You can specify the size in bytes, kilobytes (KB), or megabytes (MB); indicate which you're using by choosing from the list to the right of Other size. The minimum size allowed is 65,536 bytes (64KB). To split an existing Zip file into smaller pieces: 1. Open or create the Zip file. 2. Choose Split from the Actions menu. 3. Specify the name to be used for the split Zip file. The name must be different from the name of the open Zip file. 4. Specify the size to be used for the individual parts. You can choose from common sizes using the Part size drop-down list or you can specify your own size. To specify your own size, choose "Other size" in the drop-down list and type the desired size in the Other size field. You can specify the size in bytes, kilobytes (KB), or megabytes (MB); indicate which you're using by clicking the appropriate radio button. The minimum size allowed is 65,536 bytes (64KB). 5. Click OK to create the split Zip file. Notes Each of the segments of the split Zip file will have a different extension. WinZip creates files with names like Data.Z01, Data.Z02, and so on, except for the very last segment of the new Zip file. The last segment will always have the .zip extension (e.g., Data.zip). The sizes listed as "1.2MB," "1.44MB," and "2.88MB" are approximate. The segments of the split Zip file are sized appropriately to fit on media of the specified size. You cannot, however, use decimal points when specifying sizes in the Other size field. Stuffit Deluxe 7.0 segmenting instructions: When you create archives in StuffIt X format, you have the ability to create those archives in pieces small enough to upload quickly to our ftp server. You can tell StuffIt how big the segments should be either by choosing a pre-set disk type from the Segmenting pop-up menu, or by choosing Other and entering a specific size (in the case of our requirements, this would be 100 MB or less).
