Invitation 1st Stage of the MANUFUTURE-CH TOUR DE SUISSE 2012

Economic potential in high performance ceramics The dream material for innovation Clever combinations of select properties An enormous potential lies hidden in high performance ceramics, often exactly where its least expected. The targeted use of this material in new and existing systems utilizes combinations of mechanical, thermal, chemical and electrical properties hitherto undreamed of. The spectrum of applications ranges from machinery and plant engineering to medical technology areas and sophisticated solutions in energy technologies. The hotbed for high performance ceramics is the laboratory with the same name at Empa in Dbendorf. This is where bright minds link together scientific research, development and characterization of advanced ceramics and composites for structural, and increasingly for functional, applications. Constantly receptive to the needs in private business, experts at Empa conduct targeted feasibility studies in their specialized processing laboratories and collaborate with Industry and academic partners in future-oriented projects in the areas of nanostructuring, medical technology, energy research and damage-tolerant ceramics.
