English language Editor/ Translator


Background
The Social Contract Center (SCC) is a joint project between the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Egyptian Cabinets Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) with the support of the Egyptian-Italian Debt for Development Swap Programme. Starting its actual operations in June 2007, SCCs mandate is to provide evidence based Policy Advice, Monitor progress towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and Coordinate with various stakeholders to define, develop and articulate a vision for a new social contract that will represent a paradigm shift in the state-citizen relationship rooted in the principles of democratic governance and modern concept of citizenship. Part of SCC's Communication Strategy is to reach out for all society segments in order to build a knowledge base of the Social Contract concepts and ideas among all development partners, while activate their role in social contract.

Descriptionoftasks
At this stage of its operations, Social Contract Center Communications Unit - requires more inputs of the English language to be covered in the SCC Publications and website; therefore, SCC seeks to contract a professional English language Editor/ Translator to provide article writing, translation, editing for the SCC websites The tasks will include the following: Selected Editor/ Translator will need to produce the web articles in a professional journalistic style, preserving the meaning of the original language in case quoted from Arabic language and ensuring that the target language is lively, free of jargon, and clear to an intelligent reader who may not be an expert in the subject

TaskTimeOutline
The duration of the contract for the mentioned job is 11 months on the basis of only 50% of the time.

CandidateRequirements
Experience: candidates must have good experience in article writing. Education: Successful candidates must have an advanced university degree in foreign languages, public policy, economics or another related field. IT Skills: They should also be familiar with Microsoft Office (Microsoft Word and Excel in particular). Other Criteria: Candidates should be able to demonstrate a strong ability to translate and edit specialized texts under deadline pressure.
