Old dictator tells India to ditch democracy

Mahathir (I am not a dictator) Mohamad loves to teach people more knowledgeable than himself. Often he does this by talking bullshit about democracy and economic development. In Mahathirs thinking heres how it goes: Democracy = cannot get rich Dictatorship = get rich quick His examples: India, a democracy; and China, a dictatorship. Thats the bullshit he told India on Friday. (India, by the way, is the worlds largest democracy. It stayed democratic from the day it became independent, is proud of its democracy and stoutly defends its democracy.) But Mahathir (I am not a racist) Mohamad told the Indians they would be as rich as China with less democracy. For 30 years, he has been praising China and putting down India, and doing the reverse at home when talking about Malaysian Chinese people who have lived here all their lives. Of course Mahathir is never wrong. You can see his logic if you translate what he says. (You must always translate what he says. Often, when he says you people, he means me.) Heres a translation of what he meant to say in India: If you leaders and your friends want to get rich, choose dictatorship. Dictatorship is good because dictators, their family, and their friends become very, very, rich; their hangers-on become very rich, and as for the rest of you: have fun watching us. Mahathir (I am not a dictator) Mohamad school of democracy, lesson I: In a dictatorship, leaders can become thieves. In a democracy, leaders who are thieves go to jail. Dictatorship good, democracy bad. Thats how Malaysia has become a kleptocracy, where the leadership consists of a bunch of thieves. Mahathir created that system. He threw out democracy. Thats why so many people love him.

When you can live like this, who needs democracy?
