CITY. OUTSKIRTS. EXT. DUSK. A CYBER-LEADER stands there, with two CYBER-SCOUTS in the "MOONBASE" armour. CYBER-LEADER President Lola, you have betrayed us. DOCTOR Cybermen! The CYBER-SCOUTS take aim and fire. The energy circles fade in mid-air. CYBER-SCOUT #1 Power supply is low. CYBER-LEADER These specimens must not be harmed. They belong to us. They will become like us. LOLA Who are you? CYBER-LEADER We are the ones you believe are here to save you. LOLA Believe? Im sorry, I dont understand. CYBER-LEADER This Planet is now under our control. CYBER-SHIP. INT. WAITING AREA. DUSK. The cell door is sealed shut, that looks mechanical and hi-tech. The DOCTOR, SARAH and LOLA are in the cell. LOLA You know who these, what these things are, dont you? DOCTOR Indeed I do. SARAH Weve encountered Cybermen before. LOLA Well, what are they then?

DOCTOR Originally from the planet Mondas, their race was human, like yours, and they began to die out. Technologically advanced they made themselves more machine, and the cost was the loss of emotions. They are fearless, emotionless, deathless and their only aim in life is to turn every other life form possible into Cybermen. LOLA They sound quite terrible, and immune. SARAH They do have one weakness though. LOLA I hope its something we can exploit. DOCTOR Not on Lonsis, Sarah. SARAH Why not? DOCTOR There is no gold on Lonsis. PRESIDENTIAL OFFICE. INT. DUSK. KARLONG bursts in to see DANTON. KARLONG Where is the President? DANTON Im sorry? KARLONG The President, where is she? DANTON Out. KARLONG I hope she isnt with my suspects. DANTON She has higher status than you do, Karlong.

KARLONG I still have an investigation to carry out. DANTON Then she and your suspects are doing your job for you. KARLONG Shes out there? DANTON And shes probably making better progress than you ever could. KARLONG I need to know where she went. DANTON I dont know. KARLONG Im not stupid. DANTON (Sarcasm). Believe me, it shows. KARLONG Do not take me for a fool, I have great reason to believe she is in real danger and required my protection. DANTON Oh really, whys that then? KARLONG She is with the off-world strangers. DANTON Ive met them, theyve seem harmless. KARLONG Nobody knows a thing about them, how they got here, or even where they come from. DANTON The other city on Lonsis I suppose. KARLONG The girls ID was not of this planets origin, the writing was (MORE) (CONTINUED)

KARLONG (contd) strange, the President described it as Earth. Ive never heard of Earth, have you? DANTON No. KARLONG They obviously have a very good backstory which means its obviously a lie. DANTON Are you suggesting we should eliminate the strangers? KARLONG Yes, yes I am. DANTON Youre argument is stronger than hers. KARLONG So you agree? DANTON Yes. Im in. KARLONG Good. Lets make a plan to eliminate the threat to this planet. CYBER-SHIP. INT. WAITING AREA. DUSK. Theyre still in the waiting area. DOCTOR The Cyber-Leader didnt seem to recognise me. SARAH Must be early in their development. DOCTOR Yes, very early. LOLA Im guessing youve met these creatures a lot then? DOCTOR You could say that.

CONTINUED: (2) LOLA How many? DOCTOR There was Mondas, the moon, Telos, and then there was...about ten times, mostly on Earth. One of my previous assistants at UNIT, Liz Shaw described them as... LOLA (Interupting him). So you know how to defeat them? DOCTOR I dont intend on trying this time. SARAH Why not? DOCTOR The Cybermen are hear to colonise Lonsis, if I was to stop them the future of the universe would change causing dangerous consequences. SARAH So youre going to let all these people become like them?! DOCTOR I dont exactly have much choice, Sarah. Only one future is unceartain on this world, ours. We have to get out of here and off Lonsis without interfering with anything. We must not alter history. SARAH It hasnt happened yet though, its still the future. The future can be changed. DOCTOR No it cant! There is a timeline in life and that timeline must be followed, things happen, this has happened for us and if it doesnt my history will change, and if it changes too much all the worlds Ive saved could fall, who knows what could happen. What happens on Lonsis happens on Lonsis!

SARAH How many people are there on Lonsis? LOLA Twenty three million. SARAH Youre allowing twenty three Cybermen to come into exsistance if we leave, if we stay we may be able to defeat the Cybermen once and for all. DOCTOR The timeline will be rifted, paradoxes will be caused and the future will collapse around us. SARAH What about Skaro? You tried to stop the genesis of the Daleks then. DOCTOR As instructed by the Time-Lords who can control time. There are no instructions here, nothing that prevent it from collapsing. If a wound is caused, everything involved in that wound will be devoured, I sign our own death warrants if I change things. SARAH I think youre making a mistake. DOCTOR I want to help. LOLA What about me? What if I changed Lonsiss future. DOCTOR That could work, it must be the people of Lonsis that change the future of Lonsis to prevent a wound. LOLA Then I will stop this from happening.

7. CYBER-SHIP. INT. BRIDGE. DUSK. The CYBER-LEADER talks to his SCOUTS. CYBER-LEADER The city is a tactical advantage for when mass conversion begins. People will fall under the strength and power of the Cyber-race. CYBER-SCOUT #1 What about those we have ready for conversion? CYBER-LEADER How long until conversion chamber is warmed up? CYBER-SCOUT #2 Five minutes and counting, Leader. CYBER-LEADER That is when they shall become like we are. Cyber Unit 727, go to the prisoners, explain to them conversion is a strength, it will limit the ammount of resistance they give off. CYBERMAN UNIT 727 It will be done immediatly. There will be no resistance from them. CYBER-LEADER We do not want resistance, we are a dying race, we want ease when it comes to conversion. CYBERMAN UNIT 727 Task initiate. CYBER-SHIP. INT. WAITING AREA. DUSK. The CYBERMAN UNIT 727 enters. SARAH I think this is our last stop. DOCTOR Hello Cyberman, would you like a jelly baby, I dont suppose you would, you have no digestive system to eat it with, how delightfully foolish of me for asking!

CYBERMAN UNIT 727 It is time for your conversion. DOCTOR Very good, very good, you know, Im surprised you didnt call us sooner, weve been in here an awfully long time you know. CYBERMAN UNIT 727 There is no reason to be afraid of conversion. LOLA Ive heard what your conversion entails, I am not going through with it, you will never take my emotions. I will not lose my humanity. CYBERMAN UNIT 727 We remove fear, anger, sadness, sorrow, despair, guilt. Negative emotions will be eradicated. Pain will become no more. SARAH And what about positive ones like happiness, joy and fun? CYBERMAN UNIT 727 We will remove disease, we will remove famine, we will remove weakness, we will remove death. DOCTOR Im a Time-Lord, Im not going to die for a very very long time. SARAH And I dont fear death, Ive seen enough of it. CYBERMAN UNIT 727 We will give you strength, we will give you logic and intelligence. DOCTOR Id like to talk to your leader. CYBERMAN UNIT 727 Conversion will begin as soon as practicle.

DOCTOR Then why dont I talk to him before that. CYBERMAN UNIT 727 Logic suggests you are stalling. Are you stalling? DOCTOR I dont know, why dont you come here and find out. The CYBERMAN approaches the DOCTOR, he puts his hand in his pocket. The DOCTOR stands, on tip toes so he is eye to eye with his captor. DOCTOR Do you want to know something Cyberman? CYBERMAN UNIT 727 The Cyber-race has a quest for knowledge, you will tell me what you know. DOCTOR Good choice, good choice. What I know is that I never really cared for Cybermen. The DOCTOR pulls a small lump of gold out of his pocket and scrapes it into the CYBERMANs artificial chest lungs. He screams and falls in pain as his chest plates are clogged up and suffocated until he lies dead on the floor. LOLA So much for removing pain. SARAH And death, Doctor where did you get that? DOCTOR I saved it from when we were on Volga, planet of gold, its all I have. Were really in the danger zone now. LOLA The cell door is open. DOCTOR Good, lets go the ships bridge. LOLA Why?

DOCTOR I need to know something, my own personal quest for knowledge. LOLA Maybe I can change the future at the same time. DOCTOR Good thinking Lola, lets go. They walk out the open cell door, leaving the dead CYBERMAN. PRESIDENTIAL OFFICE. INT. DUSK. DANTON glares at KARLONG. DANTON Thats one risky plan. KARLONG I think we could pull it off DANTON We could try, there is no harm in trying. KARLONG Now all we need to do is find them. CYBER-SHIP. INT. BRIDGE. DUSK. The CYBER-LEADER is in logical debate with his SCOUTS. CYBER-LEADER That is illogical. CYBER-SCOUT #1 The sooner our conversions begin the sooner our numbers will be increased. CYBER-LEADER We need to be tactical, if we make one mistake we could die and that could spell the end of our race. CYBER-SCOUT #2 Cyberman Unit 727 is registering offline. CYBER-LEADER Explain.

CONTINUED: (2) CYBER-SCOUT #2 His life support system is not responsive, his chest plane has been corroded. CYBER-LEADER It appears our captives have some supply of gold. They must be converted immediatly or erradicated. The DOCTOR, SARAH and LOLA walk in. DOCTOR Hello there, I believe youre not expecting us. CYBER-LEADER You destroyed one of us yet you are our property. DOCTOR I am nobodies property. CYBER-LEADER Keep believeing that if it helps your weakness of emotions. DOCTOR There are a few things I need to know, Leader. You are the Leader arent you, oh but of course you are, the black handles are a dead give away, all Cyber-Leaders have black handles, remember that Sarah. SARAH All Cyber-Leaders have black handles. DOCTOR Good girl, Sarah, good girl. CYBER-LEADER You know our ways. DOCTOR Too well Leader, too well. CYBER-LEADER You know our ways, you must become like us. DOCTOR At least let me ask my questions first.

CYBER-LEADER Is that what your human self would describe as a final request? DOCTOR You could say that, yes. SARAH Be careful Doctor, dont aggrevate him. DOCTOR They cant be aggrevated, they have no emotions. CYBER-LEADER This is wasting time. DOCTOR Mondas was destroyed. CYBER-LEADER Correct. DOCTOR I wasnt asking, I was stating. It was destroyed, and its Cybermen were linked up to Mondas, killing them too. Now how are there still Cybermen in the universe if every Cyberman was linked up to Mondas. CYBER-LEADER Not every Cyberman was linked up to Mondas. DOCTOR Ah. CYBER-LEADER There were three fractions created. All were originally linked up. There were those you described, they felt that to be a safer method of the Earth invasion and absorbtion. There is our fraction whos mission is to survive by any means necessary, so we unlinked ourselves from Mondas incase anything happened to it, increasing our survival chances. There is a third kind somewhere, Cyber-Nomads, whose power source come from their conversion chamber, but we lost (MORE) (CONTINUED)

CYBER-LEADER (contd) contact with their fraction and their location remains unknown to us. DOCTOR Ah, I see. SARAH Please tell me we didnt just come in here to find out that. DOCTOR What do you mean just that, Ive always been curious about that, never remembered to ask though. SARAH So we could have got out of here and escaped, but you had a pointless question to ask. You said to not interefere and now were captives again. DOCTOR Do you really think my plan will be that flawed, Sarah? SARAH Oh Im beginning to think so. DOCTOR Earlier their guns failed, these Cybermen are running out of power. Their power relies on their numbers, there are too few of them to substain it, not we know nobody else has been converted since we were captive, their numbers have not increased. They cant fire their weapons, and their all in front of us. They also cant run, we can. SARAH Thats a brilliant plan. LOLA Meaning I could press that big red button before they could. DOCTOR Dont risk it Lola, theres a better way.

LOLA This could be my one shot, but the explosion could harm others. DOCTOR Exactly. They start to back up. DOCTOR Time to leave. They run out of the door. CYBER-SCOUT #2 Should I send a patrol after them, Leader? CYBER-LEADER No, what they said was correct. Concentrate on mass conversion. CYBER-SCOUT #2 I accept and will resume with that task. CYBER-SCOUT #1 A propaganda message could recapture them. CYBER-LEADER Send one out. CABIN. EXT. DUSK. DANTON and KARLONG snoop around outside the cabin. DANTON I thought they would be here. KARLONG Dont worry, it was a very good guess. DANTON I have absolutely no idea where else they could be. KARLONG The body is in the morgue. We havent checked there. DANTON Its worth a look I suppose.

MORGUE. INT. DUSK. DANTON opens the morgue and sees the body. DANTON Oh my God! DANTON runs over to the body, kneels beside it, he is distraught, his eyes wide and mouth open. KARLONG slowly enters, no sign of remorse on his face. KARLONG See, their murderers. They must be stopped. DANTON They killed... her... they have the President! KARLONG Still think their playing games? Im upping their charge from murder. DANTON To what? KARLONG They have the President. This could be classed as terrorism, and because its the President I can make it stick. They are now suspects of terrorism. DANTON Terrorists must be killed. KARLONG Im glad were on the same wavelength. DANTON Tell me what to do. CYBER-SHIP. EXT. DUSK. The DOCTOR, SARAH and LOLA run off the ship, gasping for air. DOCTOR That was fun, I finally settled that curiosity. SARAH I still think we should of come straight out.

DOCTOR You said it was brilliant. SARAH Yeah, but now they know where we are. DOCTOR They would have known we got out anyway, Cybermen have inbuilt distress signals. LOLA I could have defeated them there and then. DOCTOR You know more than your saying. That button wasnt labelled and yet you knew its function. LOLA Im clever. DOCTOR It was red, colours mean nothing to their kind. LOLA What else will it mean on a shuttle? DOCTOR Ignition for one thing. SARAH Doctor... Doctor... DOCTOR Not now Sarah, Im deducing things, you must cultivate a sense of urgency. SARAH This is pretty urgent Doctor, look. The DOCTOR turns and sees the people of LONSIS staring at them. LOLA What on Lonsis is going on?

17.

MORGUE. INT. DUSK. There is an announcement through the radios. DANTON Something must be hapenning. KARLONG I wonder what it could be. CYBERMAN (V.O.) This is the voice of your saviour. All humans must report to the noth-east quadrant of your city, where your President and two aliens will await you. They are traitors, you must not let them leave that quadrant. DANTON Thats where she is. KARLONG And they think shes one of them, we have to correct this, now come on. CYBER-SHIP. EXT. DUSK. The people just stare at those who they believe betrayed them. LOLA Well, answer me. PERSON #1 You are traitors to our saviours. They want you. DOCTOR I never expected saviour propaganda from Cybermen. SARAH Well done Doctor, another one of your great plans down the drain. DOCTOR Could you do better? SARAH We could have got back to the TARDIS.

CONTINUED: (2) DOCTOR There is one way out. They turn around, to see three CYBERMEN. CYBERMAN You will come with us, long haired male. Your two associates will be taken to the conversion chamber. SARAH No! No! LOLA People, I am your President and I command you to help us! PERSON #1 Not any more.

18.

Two CYBERMEN drag SARAH and LOLA into the ship, kicking and screaming. DOCTOR What about me? CYBERMAN The Leader requests a talk with you. DOCTOR Well it doesnt look as though I have very much choice, does it? He follows the CYBERMAN into the shuttle craft. CYBER-SHIP. INT. BRIDGE. DUSK. The DOCTOR glares at the CYBER-LEADER CYBER-LEADER You know our ways. DOCTOR You already said that. Dont convert my friends. CYBER-LEADER You are not in a position of power, converting will continue, stopping at the threat of a powerless man is illogical. DOCTOR You know your problem Leader, you like the sound of your own voice too much. (CONTINUED)

CYBER-LEADER Earlier you asked a question, now I shall be the one asking. DOCTOR I wont answer anything until my friends are safely with me. CYBER-LEADER You will join them in time, as one of what they will become. DOCTOR Cant you find the information out of me when Im like you? CYBER-LEADER The brain could be damaged. Conversion could fail. You will tell us now. DOCTOR Not without my friends first. CYBER-SHIP. INT. CONVERSION CHAMBER. DUSK. SARAH is dragged in by a CYBERMAN. The conversion chamber has five beds, all with tools and surgical instruments next to them, and on the walls are the armour suits. SARAH Why are we being put in separate conversion chambers? Where is Lola? CYBERMAN You talk too much. SARAH Am I annoying you? Oh of course you cant be annoyed or angered, that annoys me personally. CYBERMAN Your speech levels suggests resistance. Resistance is not permitted. SARAH I dont want to be like you. CYBERMAN There is no choice. SARAH At least tell me what really happens, not the fear removed (MORE) (CONTINUED)

SARAH (contd) stuff but the actual process of conversion. CYBERMAN We will insert chemicals in the brain to keep it alive. SARAH Alive for what? CYBERMAN For its removal to be processed. CYBER-SHIP. INT. BRIDGE. DUSK. The debate continues. CYBER-LEADER Conversion will not be stopped. DOCTOR At least not on Sarah then, come on, the black haired younger, better looking one, spare her, give her back to me, please, it would only be fair Leader. I will tell you everything if you give her to me. CYBER-LEADER Our numbers must be increased. DOCTOR Then let us go through conversion together. CYBER-LEADER Friendship is a sincere weakness. DOCTOR Not to me. CYBER-LEADER Your views will change soon enough. There is no place for opinions in our race. CYBER-SHIP. INT. CONVERSION CHAMBER. DUSK. SARAH steps backwards. SARAH Processing?

CYBERMAN Software will be installed causing the eradication of emotions. SARAH I see. CYBERMAN Youre brain will then be placed in an armoured suit to remove the threat of death. After twenty minutes the chemical will wear off, and the life support systems of the armour will keep you alive. SARAH I dont want that. CYBERMAN For this to work certain things must happen. SARAH Like. The CYBERMAN puts his hand around SARAHs neck and starts to squeeze, she screams. CYBER-SHIP. INT. BRIDGE. DUSK. The DOCTOR glares at the CYBER-LEADER. DOCTOR I may be more difficult to convert than I look. CYBER-LEADER Our software will process you in an efficient manner. DOCTOR I may be more willing if I am with my friend. CYBER-LEADER You do not seem to give up, but we shall not give in to your human requests, it is a weakness to the Cybermen. DOCTOR I know an awful lot about Cybermen.

CYBER-LEADER We have deduced that. DOCTOR Ah. I see. CYBER-SHIP. INT. CONVERSION CHAMBER. DUSK. The CYBERMAN still has his hand around her neck, until she collapses, unconscious and clearly breathing because she is not dead. The CYBERMAN then carries her onto one of the beds they have. CYBERMAN Conversion starting. He walks over to a wall pannel and flicks a switch. The brightness of the lights in the room increases, and he walks back to the bed. CYBERMAN Process of brain removal starting. CYBER-SHIP. INT. BRIDGE. DUSK. The DOCTOR approaches the LEADER. DOCTOR Im done asking, let her go. CYBER-LEADER Your position of power is weak. You strength is non-existent. DOCTOR Ive met the Cybermen ten times before. Each time I defeated them unarmed with my own wit. Here I am unarmed with my own wit, so what makes you think youd be any different? CYBER-LEADER You are outnumbered. DOCTOR I was then. CYBER-LEADER You are without the assistance of your friends. DOCTOR Ah. My flaw.

23.

CYBER-SHIP. INT. CONVERSION CHAMBER. DUSK. The CYBERMAN looks down to the instruments and selects the injector one. He pulls SARAHs hand nearer to him and injects a strange green chemical into her hand. CYBERMAN Chemical inserted. He then places the injection needle back down, and picks up the scalpel. The camera shot shows the scalpel slowly approach an uncounscious SARAHs head. TO BE CONTINUED
