It was noted that we havent paid Sodexho yet for the expense of catering our UN Day luncheon. An invoice has not been received. (3) Committee Reports. Several chapter activities were reviewed during this part of the meeting. A. Educational Programs. Human Rights Video Collection. Lowell Adams reported on the status of the Human Rights Video project. He shared a 1-page report on the Number of Check Outs that have been made from the collection. The report, compiled by the Metropolitan Library System, shows that videos from our collection were borrowed on 106 occasions between November 5, 2007 and March 7, 2008. The most popular titles, according to this report, are: Poverty in America,

Refugees in Tanzania, and Street Children in Mongolia. Each has been borrowed more than a dozen times. This news was welcomed by our directors. It is an indicator of the success of the project. Lowell mentioned that he will make a final report to the Oklahoma Humanities Council after the 31st of this month. Chapter Meeting / Spring Luncheon. Ruth Males was recognized. She distributed copies of the brochure that has been prepared for the spring luncheon. Copies will be mailed out within the next 24 hours. Bob Cox reminded us that items are needed for the Silent Auction. Adopt-A-Minefield. Bob Elliott reported that the national office is sending descriptive brochures for the landmines project that we can use for our Spring Luncheon on April 19th. Trick or Treat for Unicef. Bob Cox mentioned the success of last years project at the University of Oklahoma. He reported that he prepared a write-up of the project, and he recommended it to our UNA-USA national office as a best practice. The national office is interested in receiving reports and recommendations from local chapters on projects that have been particularly successful. In that regard, Lowell Adams will submit our chapters Human Rights Video project as a best practice. On another topic, Bob Elliott said he is preparing a mailing a letter to about 200 OKC-area pastors that will promote several of our chapters activities, including Adopt-A-Minefield, the Human Rights Video Collection, Trick or Treat for Unicef, and more. B. Advocacy. Bill Bryant reported that the UNA-USA national office is encouraging local chapters to sponsor and/or participate in activities to promote awareness of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the signing of the UDHR. Christian Balden replied that OCUs student chapter of Amnesty International would very likely be interested in working with our UNA-USA chapter to promote a UDHR program. He suggested that campus groups and community groups could team up to plan a commemoration with popular appeal. There was a short discussion about our UN Day celebration planned for October. Bob Elliott suggested that the theme of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights should be worked into our UN Day program. Bob Cox said we may be able to get a high profile speaker from the UN for our October celebration. It was decided that Ruth or Larry will

reserve our usual venue at OCU for Saturday, October 25th, at 12 Noon. C. Membership. Nancy Musselman reported that she did not have an update on membership. There was a general discussion about the need for our chapter to have ready access to membership brochures. They are useful whenever we engage with the public. Several directors offered to help locate a supply. D. Nominations Committee. Bill Dudley advised that there are no new nominations to report at this time. We have a number of vacancies on the Board of Directors which are available to be filled. (4) Coordination with Student Peace Alliance Groups. Dr. Cox asked Murod Mamatov to report on the Model UN Conference at OU on February 23rd. Murod reported that he and Arlette Srouji represented our chapter of the UN Association. They distributed membership brochures to dozens of young people who attended the conference. Bob Cox suggested that we should use the Model UN program at OU to promote our programs and activities at every opportunity. The discussion turned to our April 19th Spring Meeting. It was suggested that we should place ads in campus newspapers to call attention to our program. Murod offered to place an ad in the campus paper at OCCC. Christian will take the information about our program to the campus paper at OCU. (5) Unfinished Business: Our student internship program was discussed in this portion of the meeting. Bob Cox reported that he, Lowell Adams, Bill Bryant, and Bob Elliott met prior to todays meeting to discuss some general guidelines for our internship program. Dr. Cox suggested that interns should be assigned to the Adopt-A-Minefield project. Their objective will be to develop a recommended plan of action a report suggesting ways for our chapter to implement a successful fund-raising effort or efforts. They would do this by a benchmarking process. They would identify best practices that are used by other UNA-USA chapters across the United States (and possibly around the world). Larry Eberhardt will be the general supervisor for the internship project. He will be our chapters point of contract with Professor John Starkey at OCU. He will be a liaison between our board of directors and the OCU student internship program. Additional discussion: We dont want to put arbitrary limits on the scope of work of our interns. We recognize that they have the capacity to contribute to our chapters mission in various ways. So, it may be possible for them to work on projects beyond the Adopt-A-Minefield initiative. For example: A project related to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; and/or a project related to the Trick or Treat for Unicef campaign. We would like to use our student interns in a way that promotes positive relationships with student organizations at various campuses in the Central Oklahoma area. Christian Balden indicated that he has a preference for working on a UDHR project. DeEtta

Cravens indicated that she would like to work on the Adopt-A-Minefield program. After a positive exchange of ideas, Lowell suggested that we should have a subsequent follow-up session to discuss additional details of the internship assignments. Dr. Cox offered to formalize our discussion in an email message that he will address to Christian, DeEtta, Murod, Lowell, Larry, Bob Elliott, Bill Bryant, and John Starkey. Larry will visit with the interns after todays meeting. (6) New Business. There was no new business.

(7) Adjournment. In consideration of the fact that we have a chapter-wide meeting scheduled on April 19th, it was agreed that the next regular meeting of the Board of Directors will be on the second Monday of May: Monday, May 12, 2008 5:30 pm Disciples' Center 301 NW 36th Street Oklahoma City, OK Without objection, the meeting adjourned about 6:40pm.
