CHECK out the BMC EMPLOYEES and SURVIVORS strutting their stuff on the RUNWAY!

Dear Friend, Thank you for joining us at Boston Medical Centers first-ever fundraising event to support our cancer programs. The fact that you are here means that you are passionate about BMCs delivery of exceptional cancer care without exception. I have the privilege each spring of attending BMCs annual Cancer Survivor Celebration. As a cancer survivor myself, the sight of hundreds of patients and caregivers gathered together always has a profound impact on me. No other hospital in Boston has such a diverse group of patients, representing nearly every neighborhood in the city. For many of our patients, who include the citys most vulnerable, this may be the only party they will attend all year. And because of who we serve, I would argue that no other hospital so routinely goes the extra mile to ensure that patients are getting the care they need, from providing rides to treatment, arranging for interpreters or child care, or scheduling appointments and coordinating treatment plans so that patients miss as little work (and wages) as possible. For many of our patients, the caregivers at BMC are family. For our caregivers, the feeling is mutual. Please know that your involvement in Catwalk for BMC Cancer Care means a great deal to us, our staff, and, most importantly, our patients. Delivering superb cancer care to the residents of Boston who are most at risk and least likely to receive the care that all cancer patients deserve can be complicated, but thanks to you and donors like you, our mission is achievable. If you are interested in learning more, please visit www.bmc.org and search for Cancer Care Center. With much appreciation,

Laurence Shah Laurence, originally from France, is an Oncology/Hematology Pharmacist at Boston Medical Center. Her husband, Bhavesh, is also parCcipaCng in the Catwalk. Laurence chose to be a model for Catwalk for BMC Cancer Care because she is passionate about her work and her desire to cure cancer!

Bhavesh Shah I was born and raised in India, but people in my community sCll call me an ABCD (which stands for American Born Confused Desi). I moved to Boston in 1998 and have worked at BMC ever since then, slowly working my way up to a pharmacist who specializes in oncology. In the past few years I have developed a hobby for Crosst, (No Not Crossdressing and there is nothing wrong with that), which everyone should try once (again I am talking about crosst), which I feel has helped me grow physically and mentally. BMC Catwalk for Cancer Care is near and dear to me, not only because I get to walk the catwalk at the State Room but because I get to be part of something bigger, which ulCmately will help my paCents get the care that they need. Grace Oise Grace is a mother of three and a counselor for people with special needs. Originally from Nigeria, she enjoys reading, traveling, and meeCng new people. Grace was diagnosed with an aggressive form or early Breast Cancer that had grown fast and suddenly. Instead of ignoring the life-threatening problem, Grace was a strong advocate for her own health and pursued a lumpectomy and clinical trial program at BMC. She is now disease free with an excellent prognosis and she oUen returns to BMC to parCcipate in survivorship programs.

ShakeCa Kuforlor When her mother Lore^a was unable to parCcipate in Catwalk for BMC Cancer Care due to health reasons, Shake^a proudly stepped up to strut her stu in honor of her mom. Lore^a was diagnosed with lung cancer and received treatments at BMC. Shake^a praised the care her mom received and said she was most impressed with how supporCve the enCre cancer care team was.

Jane Mendez Jane, originally from Puerto Rico, has worked as a breast cancer surgeon at BMC for the past eight years. Bob Gadbois (no current photo) Bob, a BMC employee in the nance department, was diagnosed with Stage IV colorectal cancer in 2009. With a ve-year survival rate under 10%, Bob considered the likelihood that his four boys (ages 10, 9, 7, and 5) would grow up fatherless. But the doctors at Boston Medical Center had other plans in mind. Over the next three years, Bob received mulCple surgeries, chemo- therapy and radiaCon therapy treatments. Most recently, Drs. McAneny and Wang teamed up to perform a complicated surgery to remove recurrent cancer related to Bobs original diagnosis. At present, Bob is undergoing post-operaCve chemo-therapy but feels fantasCc most of the Cme. Bob cherishes each day he has been giUed with and looks forward to many ConrmaCons, high school graduaCons, and (hopefully) marriages to come!
