The energy supply is going to be a strategic and competitive factor in the near future.
If we do not act now, we will loose competitive power to those who do!

Denmark is showing the way

DK is leading within energy profitability large scale Back in 2001 the government stopped subsidizing solar thermal energy large scale. Today solar thermal is competitive without the aid of subsidies. Status 2011 Until 2011 100.000 m of solar thermal energy were installed in Denmark. For the coming 2 years 200.000 m2 will be installed. Heating Plan Denmark 2010 2010-2020: Expansion with 4 mio.m large scale. 2020-2030: Expansion with up to 8 mio. m large scale.

Rational for adopting Solar District Heating in Mongolia Heating as Lifeline

Winter temperature range is -10C to -30C in the daytime, -40C at night. Long heating season, with a total of 8 months from the middle of September to the middle of May.

Rational for adopting Solar District Heating in Mongolia Contribution to Urban Environment Improvement
The heat supply in Mongolia is mainly provided from combined heat and power plants and heat-only boilers using coal.
The air quality is dangerously bad - Ulaanbaatar is becoming the worlds most polluted city. In UB, annual average particulate matter concentrations have been recorded at as high as 279, which is 14 times higher than the WHOs recommendation.

Potential Activities on Solar District Heating in Mongolia

Conduct feasibility study for solar-coal hybrid district heating system of Soum and Aimag centers Conduct feasibility study for solar-coal hybrid district heating system in Ulaanbaatar Ger area and/or support UB district heating network Initiate the first pilot project in Soum and Aimag centers
