Events for Week 6 Spiritual Revival for M.3-M.6 Math Challenge Project for Primary Students 21st Leaders Workshop Camp

June 18-22, 2012

Leaning Stage 1 & 2 Learning Stage 1 and 2 Teachers need to be aware of the upcoming due date of inputting the first quarter assessments grades into the SMS programme on the computers. The deadline is set for week 7. Make sure you are up to date marking your Reading CATs, Writing CATs, Spelling Tests Scores, Scrapbooks, and your Folders. If you are not up to date, buckle down and get it done. Students At Risk Make sure that you let A. Montira know if you have any students that are not going to be able to handle the class that they are in. It is important to place these students in the best situation for them to improve their English skills. Please fill out a form and let A. Montira know the reasons you think this student does not belong in that class. Thank you Can You Pass The IEP Quiz? Q: You want to use a Projector and Notebook as part of your lesson. What do you do? (a) Just take a Projector and Notebook when you want. (b) Tell your students to set the Projector and Notebook up for you. (c) Moan to the staff at the coffee shop that you dont have a Projector or a Notebook in you class. (d) Fill out an AV form, make sure you have explained in your lesson plan the activity and make sure the activity is English based.

Montiras Messages Dear IEP Staff, Spiritual Revival is scheduled for M.3-M.6. from June 18-21. The schedule is posted between the doors of the Department Head and the Coordinators offices. There are also Boy Scout rehearsals for M.1 M.5. Therefore, if you had planned to give your students any tests or important assignments during this time, please adjust your schedule to accommodate the cancellations. On June 18-22, 2012, there will be a video cameraman coming to G.1 classes. We will have Open House for G.1 parents from July 23-July 27. We would like to thank Teachers Darrin, David and John for tutoring students who are participating in upcoming international competitions. The school appreciates your willingness to volunteer your time to help these students prepare for these competitions. Two of our teachers will be doing extra teaching at Jane Hays Memorial School. Teacher Jon will go on Wednesday mornings, and Teacher Ron will go on Thursday mornings. This is another BCC volunteer project to help our sister schools. Thank you, A. Montira

Teaching Tip - After School Classes After school classes are conversation-based. Below are some ideas about teaching conversation English. Conversation classes can be tough, on one hand they can turn out to be a great deal of fun, a success, and a wonderful learning and teaching experience. After all, you dont have to worry about loads of tedious grammar exercises or correcting endless piles of homework! However, conversation classes can also seem like an eternity of the silent treatment or completely forced, unnatural, and boring conversation. The latter scenario is most likely to happen to someone who either isnt familiar or comfortable with the creativity level or freedom of a conversation class; or simply hasnt prepared on the right level for the class. To be sure, a conversational class is the least demanding as far as preparations go. However, the popular misconception among many teachers is that there is absolutely no preparation needed for an After School class. This simply isnt true, even the most seasoned of conversational teachers need to prepare a little. First off, look at your After School teaching schedule/syllabus. What direction have you been given? This is usually a grammar point such as past tense, future tense, the conditional, etc, or the introduction or practice of vocabulary. Choose what kinds of supporting activities will best provide learning and entertainment/fun on the topic at hand. Remember our students learn conversation with you at 3.10pm after a whole day of classes. Make it fun, engaging and interesting or you may find you will have lots of discipline problems.

Requirement #2 Good teaching is about substance and treating students as consumers of knowledge. It's about doing your best to keep on top of your field, reading sources, inside and outside of your areas of expertise, and being at the leading edge as often as possible. But knowledge is not confined to scholarly journals. Good teaching is also about bridging the gap between theory and practice. It's about leaving the ivory tower and immersing oneself in the field, talking to, consulting with, and assisting practitioners, and liaisoning with their communities.
