OP-AMP TESTER ABSRACT: The op-amp tester can be used to test the op-amp type numbers such as LM 709,

MC 1439, LM 748, OP-02, LM 318, LM 356, etc. CIRCUIT DIAGRAM: OPERATION: Capacitors c1 and c2 are the decoupling capacitors. These are used to decouple D C power supplies for high frequency noise, if any, present on the DC power suppl y line. The resistor R3 and Zener diode VZ1 generate 3V DC used as input to the op-amp. TESTING GUIDE LINES: Insert the op-amp in the IC socket which is meant for testing. Switch on the power supply. RED LED glows indicating that the op-amp is functioning properly in the inverti ng amplifier configuration. GREEN LED should not glow while the switch SW2 is in position 1-1. Change the DPDT switch to position 2-2. RED LED extinguishes and GREEN LED start s glowing. This confirms the operation of the op-amp in the non-inverting mode. NOTE: A bad op-amp will not work in either of these configurations. But even if the op -amp exhibits a behavior where it works in one and not both of these configurati ons, it should still be rated as a bad IC. CONCLUSION: In this project, the op-amp tester was implemented using basic components like r esistors, capacitors and switch. This op-amp tester can be used to test the op-a mp type numbers such as LM 709, MC 1439, LM 748, OP-02, LM 318, LM 356, etc.

Leds are available i n red, orange, amber, yellow, green, blue and white colors. The color of an LED is determined by the semiconductor material, not by the coloring of the package ZENER DIODE: A Zener diode is a type of diode that permits current not only in the forward di rection like a normal diode, but also in the reverse direction if the voltage is

larger than the breakdown voltage known as "Zener knee voltage" or "Zener volta ge". DPDT: A DPDT switch has six connections, but since polarity reversal is a very common usage of DPDT switches, some variations of the DPDT switch are internally wired specifically for polarity reversal. These crossover switches only have four term inals rather than six. Two of the terminals are inputs and two are outputs. When connected to a battery or other DC source, the 4-way switch selects from either normal or reversed polarity. Such switches can also be used as intermediate swi tches in a multiway switching system for control of lamps by more than two switc hes.
