Transfer Student GE Requirements

General Education Requirements for Students WITH a Completed Transfer Program


Transfer programs include: Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG); Intersegmental General Educational Transfer Curriculum (IGETC); UC Reciprocity; or transfer from a four-year, accredited institution (see academic advisor) Three, four-unit, upper-division courses, non-contiguous (unrelated) to the major discipline See chart on the following page. The courses: Must be taken at UC San Diego May be from the same discipline or same department Upper-division courses are numbered 100-199 May be taken on a Pass/Not Pass basis One Special Studies course chosed from: 197, 198, or 199 can be used Special Studies 195 cannot be used Rady School of Management courses cannot be used Select courses that have no prerequisites or courses in which prerequisites have already been completed Upper-division, non-contiguous, general education courses may not overlap with major courses

General Education Requirements for Students WITHOUT a Completed Transfer Program

Transfer students who have not completed one of the above transfer programs must complete the same general education requirements as entering freshmen. Meet with a Warren academic counselor.

Community College Transfer Limit

The University will award graduation credit for a maximum of 105 converted quarter units of transferable coursework from a two-year institution. To calculate: 1 semester unit = 1.5 quarter units

University Honors

To be eligible for University Honors (summa cum laude, magna cum laude, cum laude), a student must be in the top fourteen percent of the graduating class and successfully complete at least eighty (80) letter-graded quarter-units of coursework at the University of California.

Transfer With Completed Transfer Program


To choose your three, upper-division, non-contiguous courses:
Chart I - Find the discipline representing your major: Humanities & Fine Arts; Natural Science, Math & Engineering; or Social Science Chart II - Choose three, upper-division courses from any department outside of your major discipline For Example: a Biology major might choose one course each from the History, Sociology, and Visual Arts departments or three courses from the Psychology department
