VOTING MACHINE THROUGH GSM MODEM OBJECTIVE: Polling is an essential right of each and every citizen in a country.

In democratic societies, voting is an important tool to collect and reflect peoples opinion. Traditionally, voting conducted in centralized or distributed places called voting booths. Electronic voting systems have the potential to improve traditional voting procedures by providing added convenience and flexibility to the voter. Numerous electronic voting schemes have been added proposed in the past, but most of them have failed to provide voter authentication in an efficient and transparent way. On the other hand, GSM (Global system for Mobile communication) is the most widely used mobile networking standard. There are more than one billion GSM users worldwide that represent a large potential, not just for mobile telephony, but also for other mobile applications that exploit the mature GSM infrastructure. METHODOLOGY:

In this system, GSM modern is connected with the PC.PC is directly connected with the microcontroller. The microcontroller had LCD display for displaying the result. Already each and every citizens database is maintained in PC. If there is an any message from user cell phone with the appropriate password, then the GSM modem in the receiver end receives that message and it analyzes the phone number, finally it check the password from the message which is sent by the user. If all the information is match with required safety level then the pooling is taken place. The pooling ID also sent by user along with the password. After pooling, the acknowledgement of polling also sent by sms to the user. This project is implemented using ATMEL micro-controller, GSM modem and LCD display is used to display the result.

GSM modems and modules:

A GSM modem is a wireless modem that works with a GSM wireless network. A wireless modem behaves like a dial-up modem. The main difference between them is that a dial-up modem sends and receives data through a fixed telephone line while a wireless modem sends and receives data through radio waves. A GSM modem can be an external device or a PC Card / PCMCIA Card. Typically, an external GSM modem is connected to a computer through a serial cable or a USB cable. A GSM modem in the form of a PC Card / PCMCIA Card is designed for use with a laptop computer. It should be inserted into one of the PC Card / PCMCIA Card slots of a laptop computer. Like a GSM mobile phone, a GSM modem requires a SIM card from a wireless carrier
