Standard two-hole NEMA tin-plated pad 2. Optional two-piece parallel groove (#2 500 MCM)

Application
The ABB Type RBD Distribution By-pass Disconnect Switch provides an economical means for by-passing and disconnecting reclosers or regulators. This allows quick system reconfigurations to perform maintenance on any device without interrupting service. Rated at 600 or 900 amperes, the RBD is available in nominal ratings of 14.4 kV through 34.5 kV. All switches are available with either a right or left opening by-pass blade. Various mounting arrangements and terminal options are available.

Operation
In normal operation, the by-pass blade is open and the two disconnect blades are closed, allowing the unit to be energized. When maintenance, testing, repair, or removal is required, first close the by-pass blade to provide a parallel current path. Then open both disconnect blades of the by-pass switch. Service continuity is maintained and the unit is isolated from the line. Reverse the process to put the unit back in service.

Blade Stop
A blade stop prevents the switch from closing under high momentary current and is used to hold the blade in the 90 or 160 position.

Mounting
The RBD can be mounted in the following configurations: vertical or underhung polemount single or double crossarm premounted on steel, aluminum, or composite crossarm
