Optimising internet communications

For mobile.

Reduce call dropping. Reduce churn.

The smartphone explosion continues. Mobile data traffic has been growing threefold and mobile video will soon eclipse all other types of traffic. So even basic voice calls put a strain on your already-stretched network resources. More calls are being dropped and the risk of churn increases. Even with higher-bandwidth 4G networks, capacity is finite and there comes a point where you can only optimise what is there. Thats where Horizon can help. By making better use of the bandwidth available and minimising the volume of data consumed. Helping you to reduce call dropping. And ultimately churn.

With the worlds most bandwidth-efficient VoIP platform.

Horizon is the worlds most bandwidth-efficient VoIP platform. By using our SmartPacket technology, it enables mobile VoIP from only 2kbps compared to around 8kbps from other mobile VoIP services today. This industry-leading solution has been totally developed in-house and is fully compatible with digital telecommunications standards. It operates over GPRS, EDGE, 3G, 4G/LTE, WiFi and WiMax and is capable of interconnecting any phone system over IP on mobile, fixed and satellite networks. We are certified for ISO 9001 and ISO 20000-1, underlining our commitment to both quality and innovation.

Sounds of silence.
Our SmartPacket technology enables greater bandwidth efficiency by reducing IP overhead and optimising packet flow, delivery and playback. Its also extremely efficient in the way it handles silence. Traditional VoIP calls send the same amount of data in both directions, regardless of whether someone is speaking or not. Horizon is designed to detect silence and send heartbeats instead of data, so you know the line hasnt been dropped. And those heartbeats get sent at only 0.25kbps.

Enabling competitive advantage.

Maintain network availability.
Horizon uses wireless bandwidth much more efficiently than any other mobile VoIP app. This helps you manage competing demands for network resource more effectively, maintain network availability and reduce the level of dropped calls.

Offer more competitive tariffs.

Horizon gives you the potential to offer more competitive tariffs, such as free VoIP-to-VoIP calls, reduced rates for VoIP to PSTN and other mobiles or lower international roaming rates. You decide strategically how to offer it commercially to encourage customer base growth and on-going customer loyalty.

Give the user more control.

As mobile data networks become more congested and monthly allowances more restrictive, users will become increasingly conscious of the burn rate of different apps. Horizon is uniquely designed to give the user more control over the volume of data they consume.

Retain PSTN revenue.

Unlike other mobile VoIP apps, Horizon enables you to control call routing for PSTN termination of outbound mobile VoIP calls. You can also assign local mobile number ranges for Horizon Direct Inward Dial to the smartphone, thereby retaining a greater share of revenue from inbound PSTN calls to your network.

Customise to your brand.

Unlike any other mobile VoIP app, Horizon can be customised with your branding to become part of your portfolio as one of your own value-adds to encourage customer loyalty.

Your mobile VoIP app.

Just as fixed operators have seen internet telephony take a significant share of call revenues, mobile operators now face the same threat from mobile VoIP apps. These apps are also bandwidth-hungry. Horizon is different because its a mobile VoIP solution that you own and deploy. And it also helps you manage rising traffic volumes. You decide strategically how to integrate it within your portfolio. You decide how to offer it commercially. And you control the call routing to retain PSTN revenues.

Horizon Mobile Apps.

Horizon Call
The Horizon Call app enables highly bandwidthefficient VoIP calls over a smartphone using a GPRS, EDGE, 3G, 4G/LTE, WiFi or WiMax connection. It is currently available for iPhone and Android. It has a simple, familiar interface so the user makes a call just as they normally would, but with the added feature of allowing them to choose from three different levels of call quality for optimal cost/quality control: Level 1 2.15kbps Level 2 3.75kbps Level 3 5.75kbps (Bandwidth required for both talking and listening. IP headers are excluded at all levels.) The user has the option of setting their preferred quality level as a default, or dynamically changing it before or even during each call. A data counter keeps the user fully informed of how much theyre consuming as they talk either as an increasing number of kilobytes for pay-monthly subscribers or as a reducing number of units for pay-as-you-go subscribers. The app includes all the standard call features: Recents missed, dialled and received calls Voicemail send and receive Contacts uses smartphones central contacts repository

Operations on the Horizon network.

Outgoing calls.
On-net calls from one Horizon number to another VoIP-to-VoIP calls which enable considerable cost savings as Horizon optimises IP bandwidth much more efficiently than other mobile VoIP services. Off-net calls from a Horizon number to landlines and mobiles.

Billing.
With fully-audited Call Data Records for both voice and data services, the Horizon system supports pay-monthly and pay-as-you-go billing and we provide full integration with your own systems.

Legal interception.
Horizon supports all regulatory requirements for legal interception in those territories where it is mandatory.

Incoming calls.
Two-stage dialling for calls from landlines or mobiles to a Horizon number where the caller dials a local PSTN number and a PIN to access the Horizon network and then dials the Horizon number they wish to reach. Alternatively, the caller can dial a local PSTN number and then a Horizon Alias number, where calls are routed to the destination without the need to dial a PIN first. Direct Inward Dial numbers are also available where off-net callers can dial a local PSTN number which routes directly to a Horizon number without the need to enter a PIN or Alias number first.

Support.
Horizon Globex uses ITIL V3-compliant IPM (Incident, Problem, Management) processes to capture and manage all network incidents. We guide you through your own specific implementation of Horizon from training individual users to working with a full project management team overseeing the implementation of a Global Exchange with your infrastructure and billing integration. .

The Horizon portfolio: a flexible, scalable solution.

Horizon is a complete end-to-end solution for mobile network operators and service providers. Besides smartphones, it also enables low-bandwidth VoIP based on SmartPacket technology via PCs, analogue and digital fixed phones. This extends into a range of optimised data applications. We provide all the necessary elements and options for you to build and operate your own Horizon network or we can host the service on your behalf.

Horizon Global Exchange

The Horizon Global Exchange is essentially the core network of the system. It authenticates, routes and manages all calls over the network. It maintains a secure database of all products and services connecting to it, and generates highlydetailed Call Data Records for seamless integration into your billing system. Running on industry-standard servers, the Global Exchange is easy to maintain and caters for business resilience and redundancy.

Horizon VoIP Switch

A standard-size rack-mountable server that can be configured in two ways: PRI-Gateway mode for interconnecting digital PBXs onto the Horizon network to take advantage of low-bandwidth VoIP. PRI-PSTN mode enables call routing from the Horizon network onto the PSTN. The Horizon VoIP Switch can handle multiple call-routing combinations, including calls from Horizon-enabled smartphones to the PSTN; calls from the PSTN to Horizon-enabled smartphones via Direct Inward Dial; and calls from digital phones to Horizon-enabled smartphones.

Horizon VoIP PBX

A standard-size rack-mountable server that can be configured in two ways: FXS-Gateway mode for interconnecting analogue PBXs onto the Horizon network to take advantage of low-bandwidth VoIP. FXO-PSTN mode enables call routing from the Horizon network onto the PSTN. The Horizon VoIP PBX can handle multiple callrouting combinations, including calls from Horizonenabled smartphones to the PSTN; and calls from digital phones to Horizon-enabled smartphones.
