ndependence Day is a time

of great tradition and cele-
bration here in the United
States. Most of us like to cele-
brate this holiday with a relax-
ing day off of work and a bar-
beque attended by our family,
friends, and neighbors. Burgers
and hotdogs, fireworks, flags,
and parades are the essentials for
celebrating the Fourth of July.
Of all the holidays we
celebrate in our country,
Independence Day is the most
important one for Americans,
yet we often forget why that is
so. Like any other holiday in the
USA, we tend to over commer-
cialize the day through mass
consumerism. When this hap-
pens, we lose sight of the impor-
tant significance of what we are
celebrating; we get so caught up
in the festivities that we miss
the reason for the celebration.
July 4th is not simply a day off
from work to enjoy a burger in
the backyard with a pretty fire-
work display at night; it is a day
that celebrates our freedom.
As Americans, we are
notoriously known as ignorant
about our countrys founding
and the reason for our freedom.
Since I have first started attend-
ing college, I am constantly
made aware of this stereotype. I
have had the privilege of mak-
ing some friends with interna-
tional students who usually
complain about the ignorance of
the American people as a whole.
According to their observations,
Americans are completely clue-
less to how their own country
operates. In addition to that,
they have observed that we also
take our rights for granted. They
see how fortunate we are and
the freedoms we have, yet our
attitudes reflect a selfish sense of
entitlement.
One of the main reasons
behind our lack of knowledge
results from most of us (myself
included) becoming far too
comfortable with our standard
of living that we often forget the
fact that freedom comes with a
price. Unfortunately, many peo-
ple in the United States do not
even know some of their basic
rights; and even worse than

s it written or guaranteed
in the laws of compensa-
tion that one who works
long hours or under huge
physical or mental demands
for a lifetime is entitled to a
retirement in the lap of luxu-
ry? Where does it say that
people who work hard for
decades have an expectation
or an entitlement of wealth
in their 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s,
and even in to their 100s? Do
many years invested in edu-
cation for advanced degrees
offer the keys to the kingdom
and a comfortable retire-
ment? Where is it written
that Im entitled, assured,
pledged, promised, or guaran-
teed anything in my future?
It isnt! In fact, the new
axiom for retirement plan-
ning must be: If it is to be, it
is up to me!
Yet certain people feel
they have it all coming to
them! They feel that time
invested working 95 for the
corporate world equates to
dollars they can withdraw
out of the system during
retirement. The problem is,
however, the system was
never guaranteed. It was
over-stated, severely over-
relied-upon, and grossly
under-funded. There was
never a quality education
offered in defined contribu-
tion plan maximization tech-
niques, whether in school or
on the job. A defined contri-
bution plan is the real name
of a 401k plan. Further, there
were no educational courses
offered on how systematically
to remove the funds to create
a retirement income to last
the rest of your life from your
defined contribution plan,
your IRA, your profit sharing
plan, Keogh plan, SEP, TSA,
traditional pension plan (if
you had one), union annuity,
or any other designated
retirement income plan
source. No formal education
is required or offered by
employers, the state, or the
federal government on retire-
ment distribution planning.
The reason is that no one, no
company, and certainly no
government wants the liabil-
ity or responsibility!
Self-employed folks have
to pay the premiums of
health insurance costs, work-
ers compensation insurance,
disability, and life insurance
premiums in addition to the
required contributions neces-
sary to fund a retirement plan
in order to look forward to
any income over and above

e all know people
are going through
tough times late-
ly. That fact, paired with the
highest prices ever for pre-
cious metals, has created a
perfect storm for jewelry
theft. If you read your local
police blotter you will
find items being
taken not only dur-
ing house invasions
(which are on the
rise), but also at
house parties when
parents are away, or
even by relatives.
Because of ac-
tions taken by local
detectives, much of
what has been stolen can be
retrieved if the victim moves
fast enough. In the past few
years, buyers of precious
metal items have been made
to document who is selling
items and take an image of
those items. Buyers are also
made to hold onto these
items before dispersing with
them for a period of a few
days to a week, depending on
the town. If you have had a
break-in or suddenly notice
jewelry missing, report it
immediately to your police
department. If you feel
uncomfortable because you
suspect a friend or relative,
most of the local detectives
are very sensitive to this kind
of situation and often can
find solutions that don't
include someone being
brought up on criminal
charges.
If you have been lucky
never to have been the vic-
tim of a theft or robbery, here
are some suggestions that
may help you prepare for the
worst:
Get your jewelry and
valuable items appraised.
Having an accurate descrip-
tion will help police in iden-
tification and retrieval. This
would include having some
kind of image, be it a photo-
graph or even one made
using a home copy
machine. Update your
appraisals every five
years as values change.
Get a separate in-
surance rider for your
valuables. Appraisals
are only a part of your
defense. Most home-
owner's policies cover
only up to about
$1,000, so you are tak-
ing a huge risk if what you
own is worth much more than
that.
Get yourself a safe
deposit box at your bank
(They're cheap!) and put
anything you haven't worn
in a long time and have no
plans of wearing any time
soon into it.
Don't invite theft by
A
dental implant is an
artificial tooth root
replacement. It is
used to support restorations
that resemble a tooth, group
of teeth or dentures. The
implant is made of a titanium
alloy that allows bone to fuse
with it. It is immovable
beneath the gums allowing a
stable base to fabricate miss-
ing teeth without harming
the adjacent teeth.
The Mayan civilization
used implants over 1350 years
ago. An x-ray of an ancient
human jawbone showed bone
growth to metal replacement
teeth placed during life. In
1965, after 13 years of
research, orthopedic surgeon
Per-Ingvar Branemark placed
the first dental implant in a
human. Branemark used
implants on those who could
not wear traditional dentures
due to excess bone loss. He
revolutionized medicine and
dentistry with his research
in osseointegration (bone
growth to titanium).
Dental implant place-
ment requires careful plan-
ning. Medical and dental his-
tories are a must as are specif-
ic x-rays and anatomical
measurements. The width
and length of remaining
bone, proximity to the sinus-
es/nerves and the general
health of the patient must be
carefully assessed. Major risk
factors to the success of an
implant would be smoking,
diabetes, periodontal disease,
bite dysfunction and general
poor health. All of this must
be taken into consideration
to insure a successful, long-
lasting result.
Dentists must receive
special training to be able to
surgically place and then
restore implants. This educa-
tion includes both classroom
and clinical instruction.
Implants can be used to
replace a single tooth.
Several implants may be
placed in order to support a
cemented bridge. Implants
provide not only a look and
feel that is very close to natu-
ral, but they are also perma-
nent, strong and stable.
These implants work like nat-
ural teeth, helping people to
chew better while giving
them the security and confi-
dence in their smiles with
improved health and func-
tion.
Dental implants can be
placed in one visit, have a
relatively short healing time,
and have little post operative
discomfort. These benefits,
as well as the conservation of
tooth structure, make the
dental implant highly desir-
able to my patients. This
technology has truly changed
the direction of dentistry for-
ever, allowing dentist to
achieve a higher health stan-
dard for their patients. I am
confident that the work I do

RS Commissioner Doug
Shulman recently said,
Taxpayers should be
careful and avoid falling into
a trap with the dirty dozen.
Scam artists will tempt peo-
ple in-person, on-line, and by
e-mail with misleading prom-
ises about lost refunds and
free money. Dont be fooled
by these scams.
The dirty dozen are
the 12 most prevalent scams
detected by the IRS.
Taxpayers should take pre-
cautions to avoid these and
other suspicious activities of
scam artists. The following
scams make up the 2012
dirty dozen listing.
Identity Theft. Topping
this years list is identity
theft. The IRS is increasingly
seeing identity thieves look-
ing for ways to use a legiti-
mate taxpayers identity and
personal information to file a
tax return and claim a fraud-
ulent refund.
Phishing. Phishing is a
scam typically carried out
with the help of unsolicited
e-mail or a fake website that
poses as a legitimate site to
lure potential victims and
prompt them to provide
valuable personal and finan-
cial information that can be
used to commit identity or
financial theft.
Return Preparer Fraud.
Questionable return prepar-
ers have been known to skim
off their clients refunds,
charge inflated fees for return
preparation services, and
attract new clients by prom-
ising guaranteed or inflated
refunds.
Hiding Income Off-
shore. Individuals continue
to try to avoid paying U.S.
taxes by illegally hiding
income in offshore accounts
or using offshore debit cards,
credit cards, wire transfers,
foreign trusts, employee leas-
ing schemes, private annu-
ities, or insurance plans.
Free Money. Scam-
mers have been preying on
low-income individuals and
the elderly by posting flyers
in community churches,
promising that tax returns
can be filed with little or no
documentation to receive
free money from the IRS or
Social Security Administra-
tion.
False/Inflated Income
and Expenses. This tactic is
used by scam artists who file
false or misleading returns to
claim refunds they are not
entitled to receive. One pop-
ular scam is to report income
that was never earned to
obtain refundable credits.
False Form 1099 Refund
Claims. In this scam, the per-
petrator files a fake informa-
tion return, reporting false
withholding amounts that
are subsequently used to file
erroneous refund claims.
Frivolous Arguments.
Frivolous scheme promoters
encourage people to make
unreasonable and unfounded
claims to avoid paying taxes.
Falsely Claiming Zero Wages.
Filing a phony wage-related
or income-related informa-
tion return to replace a legit-
imate information return has
been used as an illegal

Abuse of Charitable
Organizations and Deduct-
ions. Misuses of tax-exempt
organizations include ar-
rangements to improperly
shield income or assets from
taxation, attempts by donors
to maintain control over
donated assets or income
from donated property, and
overvaluation of contributed
property.
Disguised Corporate
Ownership. In this scam,
domestic corporations and
other entities are formed to
disguise the ownership of a
business. They are then used
to under-report income,
claim fictitious deductions,
avoid the filing of tax
returns, or participate in list-
ed transactions, money laun-

famous voice singing
Schools out for sum-
mer! throughout the halls as
students run to their last bus
ride home. Even though Alice
Coopers classic tune is being
chanted by students nation-
wide, parents are dreading
their kids' idle time at home
for the next two-and-a-half
months. What should we do
with them all summer long?
this is the question shared
among parents and guardians
everywhere you turn. Brainy-
Acts is the answer!
Free time during the
summer is the perfect opportu-
nity to prepare your students
for the upcoming school year.
Along with diving into the
pool, students must dive into
preparedness for educational
success. Taking a few hours a
week practicing math, review-
ing language arts, and study-
ing science and history will
construct a strong platform for
your children to be able to
launch their new school year.
Upon starting school in
September, students should be
ready to dive into their new
grade level with enthusiasm
and confidence.
Brainy-Acts keeps your
students attention by imple-
menting a variety of tech-
niques to make learning diffi-
cult subjects fun. When the
brain is engaged and studying
is comfortable, your memory
opens up and takes over. It is
our goal at Brainy-Acts to
make learning as productive
and as exciting as possible,
and to produce enthusiastic
educated students and posi-
tive results for all to share.
Plato said: Do not train
children to learn by force and
harshness, but direct them to
it by what amuses their minds,
so that they may be better able
to discover their genius
inside. Collectively, Brainy-
Acts, our teachers, technolo-
gy, and interactive and excit-
ing lessons will help your stu-
dents discover their inner
genius and will encourage
them to strive for their biggest
goals and personal success,
while preparing them, with
coaching, for the real world
that awaits them upon gradua-
tion.
School is out for summer,
but is not out forever! So seize
this opportunity to advance
your childrens education and
to expand their minds.
Support them in accomplish-
ing outstanding grades in the
upcoming school year and
positively focusing on achiev-
ing their goals. Summer camp
offers exercise for their bodies;
Brainy-Acts is exercise for
their minds! Brainy-Acts
tutors year round, but right
now is the best time to enroll
to get a head start on next
year's classes...

ntestinal parasites can
cause debilitating medical
problems to dogs and cats,
and even to us humans! Most
pets will have worms at
some point in their lifetimes.
These worms are most com-
monly seen in puppies and
kittens but any animal is sus-
ceptible, even a pet that never
goes outside. Roundworms,
hookworms, whipworms, giar-
dia, and coccidia are the most
common culprits of these
infections. Routine deworm-
ings and fecal examinations
are the mainstays of identifi-
cation and treatment of these
parasites. Year round total par-
asite control, usually in the
form of a monthly heartworm
preventative, is the way to
decrease the incidence of
intestinal parasite infections.
Fecal exams performed
by your veterinarian can diag-
nose intestinal parasites by
identifying the eggs of the
worms. Adult worms like
roundworms, hookworms, and
whipworms are usually not
shed in stools, making identi-
fication by the pet owner diffi-
cult. However, the eggs of
these worms are present,
though they are shed inter-
mittently. These eggs are
microscopic and too small to
be detected with the naked
eye. The Companion Animal
Parasite Councils guidelines
recommend fecal examina-
tions two to four times during
the first year of life and one to
two times per year in adults,
depending on health and
lifestyle factors.
Roundworms are the
most common intestinal para-
site of dogs and cats.
Roundworm eggs are shed in
the feces of dogs and cats and
are spread when animals or
people come in contact with
the feces or soil. These worms
can also be transmitted to
puppies before they are born
and to kittens through infect-
ed milk from the mother.
Roundworms can cause diar-
rhea, vomiting, and the pot-
belly appearance seen in many
puppies. Roundworms do pose
a significant risk to humans.
Contact with contaminated
soil or feces can result in
human ingestion and infec-
tion. Children are more vul-
nerable to exposure because
they are more likely to put dirt
or other objects into their
mouths. Roundworms in
humans can cause fever, lung
and liver damage, and even
blindness.
Hookworms are also a
common parasite in dogs and
cats. These worms are
acquired by adult pets through
skin penetration and inges-
tion of larvae in contaminated
soil. Puppies and kittens can
also be infected across the pla-
centa and through milk.
These worms hook themselves
to the intestinal wall and feed
on blood, and can rapidly
cause anemia and sometimes
black, tarry stool. Hookworm
larvae can infect humans by
penetrating the surface of
a person's skin, typically
through bare feet. This results
in itchiness at the point where
the larvae enter the skin and
visible tracks on the skin
from the worms
migration called
cutaneous larva
migrans.
Wh i p wo r ms
infect only our dogs,
not cats. The worms
are passed in the
feces and can cause
bloody diarrhea in
dogs. The biggest issue with
whipworms is how tough they
are in the environment, sur-
viving adverse conditions and
extremely resistant to drying.
This makes prevention and
diagnosis very important.
The good news is intes-
tinal parasites are easily treat-
ed with medication as pre-
scribed by your veterinarian.
The Companion Animal
Parasite Councils guideline
for deworming and prevention
is as follows: Administer
dewormer to puppies at two,
four, six, and eight weeks of
age, followed by administra-
tion of a monthly preventive.
Administer bi-weekly de-
wormer treatment to kittens
between three and nine weeks
of age, followed by administra-
tion of a monthly preventive.
Administer year-round treat-
ment with a heartworm pre-
ventive that has broad-spec-
trum activity against intestin-
al parasites. If your pet was
positive for worms, rechecking
the feces is important to make
sure all worms have been
eliminated.
This is not a complete
list of intestinal parasites and
is not meant to scare you into
fearing your pet, but to vali-
date the importance of regular
fecal exams and year-round
total parasite prevention. To
prevent or control intestinal
parasites, consult your local
veterinarian. For more infor-

that, they misinterpret or
misunderstand what a right
means and thus have no
understanding of it at all. If
we fail to educate ourselves
on the basic rights our found-
ing fathers fought for (and
soldiers today continue to
fight for), we do them a great
injustice by leaving ourselves
vulnerable to forfeiting them.
If we are not aware of what
freedoms we are guaranteed
by our Constitution and how
they apply, we give the gov-
ernment the ability to define
them for us, which can even-
tually result in us loosing cer-
tain freedoms; we may not
even realize this!
It is our duty as
Americans to inform our-
selves of the freedoms that we
are entitled to. We need to
make ourselves knowledge-
able in regards to our rights so
that they cannot be taken
away from us. The Fourth of
July is a day that commemo-
rates our freedom and the
rights we won when the orig-
inal colonies declared them-
selves independent of Great
Britain. Many lives were lost
for this cause so that genera-
tions of American people
could have the freedom that
was not always to be had.
Every year we set aside
this special day in the summer
so that we can all join togeth-
er and celebrate our countrys
independence. As we gather
around with our loved ones
and enjoy the barbeques and
fireworks, let us remember
what we are celebrating: our
nations independence. It is
our independence that
enables us to live such lives
where we can take pride in our
country as well as the rights
that we the American people
are so fortunate to have.

In full support of the
Paterson Habitat for Humani-

E
very summer, homeown-
ers get the urge to
become gardeners.
Newspapers are filled with
advertisements dealing with all
aspects of gardening, from
when to plant, what type of fer-
tilizer to use, what
tools to buy, and how
to deal with those
pesky insects. What
is not talked about
are the sore muscles
and achy backs that
result from ones
desire to become that
home gardener.
For a lot of peo-
ple, gardening is the
first true physical
exercise they have
endured since the fall
cleanup. Your mind is
ready to get out there to plant
and garden, but if you do not
warm up those muscles, your
body will later be telling you
something else. Keep reading
for some simple stretching
exercises and back safety tips to
get your body and garden
going.
Warming up the muscles
in the body is essential to pre-
venting injuries, pain, and stiff-
ness while working in the gar-
den. Increase flexibility with
gentle movements or some-
thing as simple as an invigorat-
ing walk. The smooth coordi-
nation of your muscles and lig-
aments is an important part of
keeping hard work safe when
gardening. Before starting, do
some simple stretching exercis-
es to avoid hurting your lower
back. These exercises are some
examples that will start you on
your way:
Lower Back Extension
-Stand with feet shoulder dis-
tance apart.
-Reach overhead with both
arms, keeping your elbows
straight.
-Watch your hands during the
movement.
-Arch your back and hold.
-Return to the start position.
-Perform this exercise in four
seconds and repeat 10 times.
Lower Back Lateral Shift
-Stand with left side to wall.
-Place hand on wall at shoulder
level.
-Keep arm straight and feet
together.
-Slowly shift your hips toward
wall.
-Return to start position.
-Perform this exercise in four
seconds and repeat 10 times.
-Turn right side to wall and
repeat.
Lower Back Flexion
-Lie on back, bend left knee up,
and place hands around knee.
-Grasp knee and pull toward
chest.
-Hold for five seconds and
slowly extend leg back down.
-Repeat with right leg.
-Continue exercise, alternating
legs, and repeat 10 times.
Do not overexert your
lower back. The lower back, or
lumbar spine, bears most of
your body weight, making it
most vulnerable to pains and
problems. The lumbar spine
consists of five vertebrae.
Between the vertebrae are
jelly-like materials encased in
tough cartilage called discs.
The discs facilitate movement
of the spine, serving as shock
absorbers and reducing friction.
Know your strengths and limi-
tations. Vary your activities.
Take intermittent breaks and
drink plenty of fluids.
Avoid bending over
repeatedly while performing
ground-level work like weed-
ing, planting, spreading grass
seed, etc. Get closer to the
ground by kneeling or sitting
on the ground. A small stool or
chair may also be helpful for
these tasks.
Lift plants, shrubs, stones,
dirt, and other heavy materials
by letting your arms, legs, and
thighs carry the bulk of the
weight. With knees bent, squat
down keeping your back
straight and arms close to your
body. Lift the object, keeping it
close to your bodys torso and
center of gravity. Remember
your strengths and limitations;
always handle smaller and
more manageable loads at a
time.
While performing garden-
ing tasks in the standing posi-
tion, long-handled tools pro-
vide leverage and help reduce
stress on the lower back. These
tools help avoid having to bend
while performing tasks such as
digging, raking, sowing, push-
ing, and mowing. Always
remember to switch hands fre-
quently. Repetitive motion on
one side can bring on progres-
sively serious joint imbalances

The Riverview Garden Club
in Wayne encourages local
area residents who are interest-
benefits they are forced to
self-fund as well. The pen-
sion plan of your fathers
and grandfathers generation
has gone the way of the
dinosaur, with the exception
of government and school
system employees. Even if
full-blown pension plans
were available today, they
would be insufficient to pro-
vide for the cost of living
over normal life expectancy.
With current anemic interest
rates and volatile stock mar-
kets across the globe, the
required contributions to be
able to guarantee a lifetime
income for each employee
would break the bank of most
employers' ability to fund
them.
So what are people to do
if they desire guaranteed
retirement income for life
and a guaranteed rising
income platform from which
to base it? What if they desire
principal access, tax-advan-
tages, and safety of principal
at the same time? Is there a
plan or program for these
people? Could the same
retirement program be struc-
tured to protect the principal
from the threats of a lawsuit,
or the expense of a prolonged
stay in a hospital or a nursing
home? What about stock
market crashes or correc-
tions? Would their income be
secure? The answer is yes,
yes, yes, and yes! If they
make it through these poten-
tial negative probabilities,
may their portfolio be further
insulated against the huge
tax cost their beneficiaries
have to pay to NJ and the
federal system when they die?
Again, I state a resounding
yes!
What I have described
in the last paragraph is the

any homeowners
discover leaks inside
their homes after
the winter and spring seasons.
Severe weather conditions,
like last year's Hurricane
Irene, can also contribute to
significant roof problems.
Most roof problems are
visible and can be fixed imme-
diately, said Mark Gargas,
owner of Gargas Roofing and
Construction.
Even with this year's mild
weather, homeowners should
continue checking for any
signs of leaks, especially in
hidden areas such as attics,
closets, and unused rooms. If
your roof needs to be replaced,
dont wait. Putting it off can
only make water, pest, mold
and other damages to your
home worse.
Older roof systems dete-
riorate faster in homes with
poor ventilation and in areas
with wind-driven rains and
heavy snow buildup, said
Gargas. It's important to fix
any roof issues immediately as
that keeps the overall cost
down.
Here are few things to
keep in mind as you decide if
your roof needs to be replaced:
The most common signs
for roof replacement are curl-
ing or decaying shingles, algae
growth on the shingles, and
obvious water stains on the
walls.
Curling, peeling or miss-
ing shingles expose the roof to
water damage and rot, and
make nearby shingles more
susceptible to being blown
away, which accelerates roof
damage.
If your roof is older than
20 years, you might want to
consider a new roof system
rather than repairing your
existing roof. To save money,
you can consider re-roofing if
your roof has only one layer.
Other important ques-
tions to consider: How is your
financial situation? Are your
happy with the look of your
roof? Has your decking
become rotted from long term
leaking? Are your insulation
and ventilation levels ade-
quate?
Today, we have many
types of shingle designs avail-
able. These designs not only
instantly add beauty and resale
value to your home, but can
actually save the homeowner
money. For instance, by
improving the attic ventila-
tion and installing cool shin-
gles, homeowners are able to
enjoy cooler homes and save
on their utility bills every
month. We get many thanks
from our clients for this!
Often we are asked about
shingles with a textured look.

T
his summers block-
buster movies are off to
an excellent start.
Avengers set a high bar for the
summer films to follow.
Although some have already
proved to be disappointing,
others are rising to meet those
high expectations. Men in
Black 3 opened last weekend
after a decade since the release
of Men in Black 2. Although it
has been a while, MIB 3 picks
up with the same entertaining
features as the first two films
that make it fun and enjoyable.
In MIB 3, an intergalactic
criminal, Boris the Animal,
escapes from a high security
prison located on the moon
and seeks revenge on the
human who locked him up:
Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones).
Boris travels back in time to
the year 1969 and kills Agent
K before he is able to arrest
him and have him locked away
for 40 years. Meanwhile, back
in 2012, Agent J (Will Smith)
is the only person who can
remember his partner. History
has been greatly altered and
the Earth is left defenseless
from an impending alien inva-
sion. Agent J must travel back
in time to the year 1969 to stop
Boris from killing his partner
or the consequences will
include the annihilation of
planet Earth.
When I initially heard
about a MIB 3, I had very low
expectations. Sequels, and
anything beyond that, usually
prove to be disappointing. I see
them as a trick to capitalize off
a huge hit in order for studios
to get audiences to see the
movie and fill their wallets. My
expectations were further low-
ered with the release of the
original trailer where I saw
that the premise of the
film included time travel.
Although time travel can
sometimes offer a captivating
plotline, I thought for a MIB
movie they should stick to the
aliens. Despite my initial
thoughts, MIB 3 not only
proved to be a great movie, but
it also was an excellent third
installment that wraps up the
series terrifically.
The movie is filled with
scenes of action as well as con-
stant humor throughout, mak-
ing it thoroughly entertaining.
As is typical of the MIB
movies, we see some of the
most ridiculous aliens, some of
whom we are already quite
familiar with (Lady Gaga for
example). The plotline was
very intriguing and it carried
very well right up to the end-
ing. Even though I had
thought lowly of the time trav-
el concept, I actually found it
to enhance the movie and
make it even more exciting.
The 1960s version of New
York City was also a cool sight
to see; specifically the re-cre-
ation of places such as Coney
Island. What also made the
movie very enjoyable was its
completely unexpected and
actually touching ending. As
mentioned earlier, the film
draws the series to an excellent
conclusion that is both satisfy-

H
ot, lazy summer days
are too precious to
waste in the kitchen.
Enhance your outdoor leisure
time with a visit to a local
farmer's stand or market to
choose fresh vegetables for
this colorful recipe.
Grilled Vegetable Napoleons
Ingredients:
Substitute or add other
vegetables as you wish. Some
nice additions might be new
potatoes or red peppers.
Although the stacks are
attractive and easy to serve,
you may also arrange the
grilled vegetables and cheese
in a casserole.
1/2 cup olive oil
1 large eggplant, cut in 12
slices (1/3-inch thick)
3 medium zucchinis, cut in
24 slices (1/4-inch thick)
3 large tomatoes, cut in 6
slices (1/3-inch thick)
3 medium red onions, cut
in 12 slices
(1/3-inch thick)
3/4 cup ricotta cheese
Salt and pepper to taste
2 teaspoons fresh thyme,
chopped
1/2 lb. mozzarella cheese,
sliced 1/4-inch thick
6 sprigs fresh rosemary
Directions:
Preheat barbecue and set
on low. Brush vegetables with
olive oil, season with salt and
pepper, and grill slowly until
tender, turning once. Transfer
the vegetables to a tray,
arranging them in a single
layer, and cover tightly with
plastic wrap. The vegetables
may be grilled a day in
advance, and refrigerated after
cooling. Bring the vegetables
back to room temperature
before proceeding.
Assembly:
Stir together the ricotta,
thyme, salt, and pepper in a
small bowl. Place one slice of
eggplant on a lightly oiled grill
sheet or foil pan. Spread 1
tablespoon of the ricotta mix-
ture over the eggplant. Cover
with 2 slices of zucchini, 1
slice of onion, 1 slice of moz-
zarella, 1 slice of tomato, and
2 slices of zucchini. Spread 1
tablespoon of the ricotta mix-
ture over the onion, and top
with another slice of eggplant.
Repeat this procedure with
the remaining vegetables to
make 5 more stacks.
Insert a wooden skewer
through the centre of each
stack to create a hole from top
to bottom. Remove the bot-
tom leaves from each rose-
mary sprig, leaving one inch
of leaves on the top. Insert 1
sprig into the centre hole in
each napoleon, and return to
the barbecue.
Heat for about 10 min-
utes on low, or until mozzarel-
la is melted and vegetables are
warmed through.

and may produce postural mis-
alignments and pain, including
muscle spasms in the lower
back. Change positions fre-
quently, avoid unusual and
awkward movements. By doing
this you will have better circu-
lation, mobility, and reduce the
possibilities of muscle strain
injuries.
If the aches and pains of
gardening are slowing you
down, there are ways to allevi-
ate the pains. Apply an ice
pack to the injured area during
the first 48 hours of symptoms.
If symptoms continue past the
48 hours, apply moist heat to
the affected area. Do not put off
visiting your chiropractic
physician. Studies show that
chiropractic care is more effec-
tive than traditional treatment
for lower back pain, especially
when caught at its earliest
stage. Chiropractic physicians
