All of Us - #552
Fr. Larry
Did You Know? One in three Chicagoans, Catholic and non-Catholic, are served by Catholic Charities. Illinois taxpayers save $1.8 billion annually because Catholic schools exist for Catholics and non-Catholics. If the 450 children currently enrolled in our Parish School had to attend the Lemont-Bromberick School District 113 -A for their education in August, the Lemont School Board would have to hustle to find an additional $4,635,000 to add to their budget. One in six individuals in the United States, Catholic and non-Catholic, are treated annually in Catholic health facilities. These numbers reflect the huge impact that the Catholic Church has upon our society in its commitment to carrying out its mission and ministry, especially to the

young, the elderly, the poor, homeless and hungry. The good work that our Church is able to accomplish in schools, hospitals, nursing homes, food pantries and shelters is deeply rooted in its Catholic identity. In some of these areas of service, in the past 20 years, the government has directly cut services and programs and basically left individuals to seek help from churches to provide critical care for them. The Catholic Church today serves all of the people of God, in the same way that Jesus modeled acts of kindness and charity. This is why we do what we do. Our ministry comes from our mission. In the name of Jesus, we go forth to love and serve the Lord, and one another. This is the commission we hear at the end of Mass each Sunday. Notice that the priest or deacon doesnt say, Folks, go home now, and take a nice long Sunday nap. With these numbers in mind, we realize why there is great concern and discussion regarding the recent Affordable Care Acts Religious Exemption Mandate by

the Department of Health and Human Services. Many religious institutions (Notre Dame, Christ the King Prep, Catholic Relief Services, Catholic Charities, St. Josephs Hospital) would now fall into the category of nonreligious institutions and thereby be subject to governmental definitions and regulations. Because of the recent mandate, now many of our religious institutions will lose their religious exemption in the ACA. Fortnight for Religious Freedom This summer, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops will conduct a Fortnight for Religious Freedom beginning with the vigil of the feasts of Saint Thomas More and Saint John Fischer on Friday, June 22nd, and culminating with Independence Day, Wednesday, July 4th. The purpose of this effort is to issue a nationwide call to defend religious liberty and urge the laity to promote the first freedom of the Bill of Rights. Please take the time to read the additional information that is provided in todays bulletin by our Archdiocese. More information can also be acquired at www.archchicago.org, under the Religious Freedom icon. We also pray during these 14 days that our public leaders have the ability and wisdom to protect and promote our liberties. The Illinois bishops contribution to the Fortnight of Freedom is to launch the Illinois Catholic Advocacy Network, also referred to as I-CAN for short. We encourage parishioners today to fill out the postcards provided by the Illinois Catholic Advocacy Network so that you will be able to receive email updates and additional information from the Catholic Conference of Illinois. The I-CAN registration cards can be filled out after Mass today. Or you can use the one provided on this page as well, and place it in the collection basket next weekend. There is also a quick and easy registration provided at www.ilcatholic.org/take-action/join-i-can/. Did You See That? I was driving down Archer Avenue on Tuesday and saw the following message posted on the sign in front of a small Christian church. It read, Been taken for

Your tuition increased as of June 15th. Please remember that all registrations are done on a first-come first-served basis and you are not guaranteed the day you had the last school year! Any new families wishing to register for Religious Education classes can do so NOW. Registration materials are available at the rectory during the week or you can email the religious education office at religed@stcyril.org and I will email the forms to you. Classes currently closed are: Sunday: 8th grade Monday: 2nd, 3rd & 4th grades Religious Education Volunteers Needed The Religious Education Program is in need of volunteers for the 2012/2013 school year. Catechists need to be 18 years old and catechist aides must be in high school. All adult volunteers must go through a background check and attend the Protecting Gods Children Workshop over the summer. The following positions are open: Sunday Session: 8:45 until 10:15 am Catechist Aide for 8th grade* (adult only) Monday Session: 5:30 until 7:00 pm Catechist for 3rd grade Catechist Aide for 6th grade Crossing Guard Wednesday Session: 5:30 until 7:00 pm Catechist for 2nd grade Catechist and Aide for 5th grade Catechist Aide for 6th grade Please give Trish a call at (630) 257-9314. Training for Catechists is available through the Archdiocese of Chicago. All catechists are given a step-by-step teachers manual and each class has a maximum of 20 students with a teachers aide. Catechist aides will have a training session before classes start.

We are still accepting new students for the 2012/2013 school year. Please call the office at 630-257-6488, ext. 19 if you are interested in receiving information and a guided tour. Dont forget...we will also be offering both a 3 and 4 year old preschool program in the fall!

When we give of ourselves, we feel joy. We know we make a difference in someones life. This gift of ourselves is a priceless gift. We ask you to please consider one way of giving to others. It is through the SPRED program which benefits people with developmental and intellectual challenges, autism spectrum disorder, epilepsy, cerebral palsy with a developmental delay and learning disabilities of all ages and levels of ability. SPRED is a program involving relationships and that takes time. We also know that other things demand this of us as well. When we give of our time, we rethink our priorities because we see the eyes of the people we welcome and know from them and their families that what we do is worth it. We are looking for men and women who wish to help us so that teens can transition to our parish who have been in SPRED at St. Patricks 6-10 year old group. No experience is necessary if you want to volunteer because training is offered. Parents and interested men and women are invited to a SPRED Informational Gathering on Monday, July 9th at 6:30 PM in our rectory. St. Patrick SPRED has openings for children 6-10 years of age; we can welcome more teens 11 to 16 years of age.

Fortnight for Freedom

Last week we introduced the Fortnight for Freedom. This is a 14 day period of prayer, education and action in support of religious freedom, from June 22-July 4. The Office for Divine Worship has compiled the following thoughts and scriptures for the last 10 days of the fortnight. Monday, June 25: Give thanks to God today for the freedom we have. ..cause the thanksgiving to overflow for the glory of God. 2 Cor. 4:15 Tuesday, June 26: Perform a corporal work of mercy today. ..whatever you did for one of these least.. Mt 25:31-46 Wednesday, June 27: Invite someone to Mass with you this Sunday. Go out..and invite to the feast whomever you find. Mt. 22:9 Thursday, June 28: Take five minutes to read and reflect. Luke 6:37-42 Friday, June 29: Bring Christ to work with you today. .so that all the people among whom you live may see the work of the LORD. Ex. 34:10 Saturday, June 30: Use the beatitudes as an examination of conscience today. Blessed are Mt. 5:1-12 Sunday, July 1: Do your coworkers know you are Catholic? For we are Gods coworkers.. 1 Cor. 3:9 Monday, July 2: Whatever you eat today, say grace. Blessed is the one who will dine in the kingdom of God. Luke 14:15 Tuesday, July 3: Pray while commuting today. Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. 1 Thes. 5:16-17 Wednesday, July 4: Attend Mass. ..unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Jn. 6:53 Our Lady of the Woods Speaker Series: Dr. Anthony Caruso presents: The Assault on Conscience: A Physicians Struggle 7PM in the St Cecilia Room

LiveJustly: Food Waste

Since the last two weeks have been on food it might as well continue. Many people have strong opinions about what they will and will not eat and whose homes they will eat in and from what dishes and who they will share food with. So do these same people ever wonder about the restaurants they frequent? This is not just a question of cleanliness but also of the quality of the establishment itself. There are a couple of associations that do take interest in this sort of thing. Restaurants are looked at from many environmental viewpoints. For example:
i Energy-Requirements for energy efficient equipment i Water-Efficiency of all faucets, recycling machines

and bathroom fixtures

i Reusable Items-Printer cartridges, coffee filters, plates,

glassware and the like

i Disposables-All paper and plastic items, even trash

bag liners
i Food & Beverage-all certified organic i Chemical & Pollution Prevention-Candles, chafing

fuel, cleaning chemicals and such Restaurants are visited, evaluated and then rated according to these criteria. There are many of these restaurants in the Chicagoland area. Maybe this summer you can make it a family mission to find one and try it. See if you like it, if it makes a difference in food or service and how you feel about supporting a restaurant that is trying to live more lightly on the earth. We must respect the inner laws of this earth, we must learn these laws and obey these laws if we wish to surviveand if we must be obedient to the voice of the earth, this is even truer for the voice of human life. Not only must we care for the earth, we must respect the other, others: both the other as an individual person, as my neighbor, and others as communities who live in the world and have to live together. ~USCCB

I nie chodzi tutaj bynajmniej o Boga oddalonego, nieingeruj cego w losy wiata, o Boga-Zegarmistrza, ktry dawno temu nakr ci zegary wszech wiata i teraz beztrosko odpoczywa.
