Description EMV Book 3, Section 7.5 - fourth paragraph states the following: It is up to the issuer to ensure that data in the card is of the correct format, and no format checking other than that specifically defined is mandated on the part of the terminal. However, if in the course of normal processing the terminal recognises that data is incorrectly formatted, the terminal shall terminate the transaction unless otherwise specified in these specifications. ... The terminal is generally required to terminate the transaction when a formatting error is detected. However, in certain instances, the card data may not be critical for completion of a transaction and it may be desirable in these instances for a terminal to ignore the format error and continue processing. This bulletin makes it optional for terminals to ignore format errors in certain card-sourced data objects should any format errors in the data object be found.

Specification Change Please add a new fifth paragraph to EMV Book 3, Section 7.5 as follows: The correct formatting of certain card-sourced data objects is not critical for completion of a transaction. If during normal processing the terminal recognises that any of the following data objects are incorrectly formatted, it may optionally ignore the formatting error and continue processing. Cardholder Name ('5F20') Cardholder Name Extended ('9F0B') Issuer URL ('5F50') Log Entry ('9F4D') Log Format ('9F4F')
