Bibim Guksu (Spicy Cold Noodles) & Jang Ddeok (Korean Pancake)

Bibim guksu is a dish made with thin wheat flour noodles called somyeon and a spicy sauce. It is one of the most popular traditional noodle dishes in Korea which is enjoyed any time, but is loved especially in summer as it's served cold. Among many different kinds of cold noodle dishes in Korea, spicy noodles have historically been favored by Koreans who love spicy food. Jang ddeok is a kind of Korean pancakes or buchimgae and is made with gochujang (red pepper paste) or doenjang (soybean paste) and other ingredients, all the ingredients are mixed together with flour and pan-fried with oil. This Korean dish is very nutritious and Koreans love to eat buchimegae including jang deok on rainy days. Make Your Own Traditional Ornamental Hairpin Binyeo

Binyeo is a Korean traditional hairpin used by ladies for holding a hair bun in place hair which is pulled back and knotted in the back. Besides its original purpose, it also serves as an ornament with different names according to the materials used or its shapes. Traditionally, there are two types of binyeo: jam and chae. Jam is in the shape of a long stick, while chae is a U-shaped hairpin. Binyeo is usually used by women, but men used to thrust through their top-knot hair in place. Participants will be able to learn about traditional personal ornaments including binyeo and how to make Korean traditional hairpins using various techniques and materials. Details

CPR Training Session

The Yeoksam Global Village Center is offering a CPR training session for expats in Seoul on July 19th, 2012. CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) is an emergency procedure which is performed in an effort to manually preserve intact brain function until further measures are taken to restore spontaneous blood circulation and breathing in a person in cardiac arrest. It is indicated in those who are unresponsive with no breathing or abnormal breathing, for example agonal respirations. It may be performed both in and outside of a hospital. In this class, participants will learn how to perform CPR so when an emergency happens they will be able to save someones life. Details:

Volunteer at St. Marys Hospital with the Yeoksam Global Village Center! On Saturday, June 16 from 10:00 to12:00, our volunteer group will visit St. Marys Hospital in Gangnam to help with the preparation of medical kits, cleaning hospital facilities and spending time with young patients. Those of you who have interest in music, magic, arts or other recreational activities to share with children are welcome to join us!! (No prior experience required.)
