Homes decision soon
A PLANNING inspector will decide within the next
few weeks whether to give the go-ahead for 100
new homes on land off Nantwich Road, Tarporley.
A hearing was held at Winsford last month where
the developers Fox Strategic Land and Property,
local councils and residents all gave their views.
The original scheme attracted over 1,000
objections.
Chocolate vandals
TWO men wearing hoodies were seen carrying
a cardboard box along High Street, Tarporley.
It transpires that the contents, including Easter
eggs were stolen from the Old Fire Station Coffee
Shop a short while earlier and were then used in
a spree of damage in the general area, smearing
the chocolate over property and cars and
breaking a window to a property on Park Lane by
throwing the items at it.

neighbourhood Plan
The Steering Group has now been set up
to start this estimated 18 month process
of producing the Neighbourhood Plan for
Tarporley. By drawing up this Plan, local
people who live and/or work in Tarporley
can have their say in how they wish to
see Tarporley develop in the future. The
Plan will be an important document for
planners and developer alike to consult
before planning applications can be
granted.
There are four working groups covering
each of the four main themes:- Housing,
Economy, Heritage & the Environment,
and Community Facilities & Connections.
Members of the Steering Group will
be at the Parish Council stand at the
Village Carnival on Saturday 14th July
and we urge everyone to come along
and tell them about what they like and
dislike about Tarporley as well as giving
information about how they see the future
for our village.

At the beginning of June, bellringers
everywhere marked the Queens
Diamond Jubilee in ways that only they
know how (literally). In Tarporley a quarter
peal of Bob Triples was rung to mark the
end of the villages celebrations.
The next major bellringing event,
however, is open to everyone. The
objective is to mark the opening of the
Olympics by ringing bells throughout the
country as fast and loudly as possible for
three minutes at 8am on 27th July. The
concept is for anyone to ring any bell,
anywhere even doorbells and dinner
gongs, although perhaps we should draw
the line at fre alarms! Further information

A memorable jubilee
NOW the Diamond Jubilee celebrations are
behind us it is time to refect on what has turned
out to be a memorable few days in Tarporley. The
Parish Council would like to take this opportunity
to say thank you to all those organisations and
members of the community who have worked
so tirelessly over the last few months to ensure
the success of the celebrations. All the Jubilee
events were very well attended and it was lovely
to see so many street parties taking place up and
down the Village, with people joining together
with friends and neighbours in a great spirit of
community to celebrate the Queens Diamond
Jubilee.
We would like to extend particular thanks to
members of the Rotary Club of Tarporley for
organising the celebratory flm night and a truly
wonderful barn dance, Peter Willis for his work
in compiling a marvellous exhibition and to Mr
and Mrs Alastair Stoddart for their kindness in
opening up their garden for a memorable village
tea party attended by over 400 people. This event
alone raised 403 for the War Memorial Cottage
Hospital. Thank you also to the churches who
played such a valuable role in the celebrations
and to the shops and businesses whose visual
displays made the High Street a joy to behold.
The Best Dressed Building or Shop Front
Competition was won by Tarporley Chocolate
Shop who decided to donate the 20 cash prize
to Tarporley Hospital, second prize was won by
the Chapel and third prize went to the dress shop
Cleopatra. Tarporley Antiques Centre must also
receive mention for their excellent antique-themed
display.
None of the events could have taken place
without a large team of people joining together
to create this wonderful celebration so thanks to
you all for making Tarporleys Diamond Jubilee
celebrations so memorable.

The Parish Council meets in the Committee Room of the Community Centre at 7 pm on the second
Monday of each month, with the exception of August. Meetings are open to the public, and
start with an Open Forum session, during which members of the public can address the whole
Council on matters of concern to them. Also the Parish Council holds a surgery at 6.30 pm prior
to each Parish Council meeting when members of the public are welcome to discuss matters with
councillors on an informal basis.

Reign or shine
THE Big Lunch and Diamond Jubilee concert went ahead
at Bolesworth Castle Sunday despite the torrential rain
which continued to fall throughout the day.
A mid-afternoon decision to switch location was the
correct one as the designated marquee became
unusable. Musicians rehearsed in padded coats and
wellies and all was set for a lovely evening of music
..... and it was delightful. The sell-out audience of 230
were royally entertained by a wide range of music and
everybody was thrilled at the sight and sound of Helen
Massey, soprano, in a red ball gown and wellies!!
Organiser Anne McGrath said: Our thanks must go
to the Bolesworth team who got the show on the road despite the
dreadful conditions and they gallantly stayed to assist cars that became
embedded in the turf!
It was a fabulous evening of music and song, accompanied by the
drumming of the rain on the marquee roof. The roof was not breached
and the evening ended with a rousing performance of Rule Britannia,
accompanied by the massed choir of the audience and much fag
waving. It was a very successful evening for the chosen charities and
all the musicians need congratulating for performing so admirably in
such adverse conditions .... and thanks also to the audience who also
played their part and made it a concert to remember.

SInCE 1968 we have been providing private home care assistance for
vulnerable adults.
We offer a most considerate, convenient and fexible system of caring for the elderly or
infrm, who wish to continue living in their own home for as long as is practically possible.
Our Residential Care Service, known as The Rosy Rota, has proved most successful over
the years, enabling people who would perhaps have had to move into Care Homes, to remain
in their own homes, even when life has become very diffcult.
A Daily Care Service is not just there to help you with

Our Respite Care Service can give relief for home carers

They say the older you get, the quicker time
flies by, and judging by the length of time it
seems to have been since I was reminded that
last months article was due, and suddenly Im
reminded again, then I must be about 150 I
should think! Surely Ive only blinked and a
month has disappeared.
So, what pearls of wisdom can I pass on to
you this month? Im afraid I cant give you
the outcome of the Greek Elections, whether
Germany will dig deep into her pockets to
resolve the Euro Crisis, or whether Spain do or
dont want a bail out package. Such things are
of course out of our control.
However, the thought of time racing on has
made me think about some of the areas of
financial planning that are within our control,
and just like the gap between my articles, which
seems to get ever smaller, what may seem
like years and years before major life events
like retirement, children going on to higher
education or getting married, tend to be upon us
within the blink of an eye too.
There are no hard and fast rules about how
to prepare for these events, just as long as you
do actually prepare for them. Many people
are reluctant to use pensions as a retirement
planning tool, and I am sure part of the reason
for this is the constant change to the rules as to
what you can and cant contribute, when you
take the pension, how much you are likely to get
at the end (remember pensions werent born
yesterday, so saving for a few years simply wont
get you the income you need). Despite this they
are still one of the most tax efficient ways of
planning for retirement.

Based locally on Shropshire /Cheshire border,
where I have lived for most of my life, I work
closely with my clients to fully understand their
fnancial aspirations, hopes and fears.
I would like to invite readers of Tarporley Talk to
discover for themselves my unique approach to
fnancial planning
I have mentioned previously that this
country now has ISA Millionaires, those who
have maximised their stocks and shares ISA
allowances since their introduction in 1987. It
is estimated that almost half the population has
money in an Individual Savings Account*
The majority are worth less than 100,000
but even this figure is a very useful tax free pot
which in turn can generate tax free income, or
fund the university fees, or daughters wedding.
Of course, saving in this way is not without
its risks, particularly in the short term, and
its always important to consider carefully the
amount of investment risk you are prepared to
take, with the help of professional advice.
Time has a habit of catching us unawares,
one minute our parents are having the time of
their lives, theyve saved for retirement, they
are independent, they are on call baby sitters,
and suddenly you turn around, and the roles
are reversed, they need the care and their
life savings are in very real danger of quickly
disappearing. Last month I spoke about the cost

They say the older you get, the quicker time
flies by, and judging by the length of time it
seems to have been since I was reminded that
last months article was due, and suddenly Im
reminded again, then I must be about 150 I
should think! Surely Ive only blinked and a
month has disappeared.
So, what pearls of wisdom can I pass on to
you this month? Im afraid I cant give you
the outcome of the Greek Elections, whether
Germany will dig deep into her pockets to
resolve the Euro Crisis, or whether Spain do or
dont want a bail out package. Such things are
of course out of our control.
However, the thought of time racing on has
made me think about some of the areas of
financial planning that are within our control,
and just like the gap between my articles, which
seems to get ever smaller, what may seem
like years and years before major life events
like retirement, children going on to higher
education or getting married, tend to be upon us
within the blink of an eye too.
There are no hard and fast rules about how
to prepare for these events, just as long as you
do actually prepare for them. Many people
are reluctant to use pensions as a retirement
planning tool, and I am sure part of the reason
for this is the constant change to the rules as to
what you can and cant contribute, when you
take the pension, how much you are likely to get
at the end (remember pensions werent born
yesterday, so saving for a few years simply wont
get you the income you need). Despite this they
are still one of the most tax efficient ways of
planning for retirement.

I have mentioned previously that this
country now has ISA Millionaires, those who
have maximised their stocks and shares ISA
allowances since their introduction in 1987. It
is estimated that almost half the population has
money in an Individual Savings Account*
The majority are worth less than 100,000
but even this figure is a very useful tax free pot
which in turn can generate tax free income, or
fund the university fees, or daughters wedding.
Of course, saving in this way is not without
its risks, particularly in the short term, and
its always important to consider carefully the
amount of investment risk you are prepared to
take, with the help of professional advice.
Time has a habit of catching us unawares,
one minute our parents are having the time of
their lives, theyve saved for retirement, they
are independent, they are on call baby sitters,
and suddenly you turn around, and the roles
are reversed, they need the care and their
life savings are in very real danger of quickly
disappearing. Last month I spoke about the cost
of care, but with a little bit of forward planning,

On 7th July James Ryder and Gemma Lovelock have organised with Tarporley
Maverick Explorer Scouts to walk all 34 miles of the Sandstone Trail in just
one day. They will be having a 6am start at Frodsham and walking 55km to
Whitchurch, hopefully arriving before 9pm.
The Scouts are walking the Sandstone Trail to raise money for Cancer
Research UK, as a tribute to a friend who has sadly been diagnosed with
cancer. In total, 17 Explorer Scouts are taking part: Gemma Lovelock, James
Ryder, Stuart Russell, Luke Jeeves, Emily Jeeves, James Gibbon, Charlie Lane,
Tom Sweetnam, Matt Duley, Lizzy Higgins, Tarran Coward-Willis, Michael Ridge,

Club is right on track to
celebrate milestone
TARPORLEY Karting Team
(TKT) is celebrating its
25th year and has grown
to become the largest and
most successful youth
karting team in Britain.
There are over 40 karts and
drivers regularly competing
in a national race series run
by NatSKA, the National
Schools Karting Association.
To celebrate, the club is
taking part in this years
Tarporley Carnival on
Saturday 14th July, the
theme being Going for
Gold. Please come along
and see the club at its
cake stall on the Carnival
feld. Club members are
hoping to have a display
of photographs from past
and present. If you have
or know someone who has
old photographs of veteran
karters please send them to
the club. Alternatively there
is a TKT get together on the
same evening..
Kart racing in schools has
existed for over 30 years.
TKT competes with NatSKA,
a nationwide association
which holds race meetings
run under strict regulations
of the governing body MSA
(Motor Sports Association),
throughout the country at
many major race tracks
including, Three Sisters
Wigan, Rowrah Lake
District, Rye House
Hertfordshire, Glan-y-Gors
North Wales and our local
circuit, Hooton.
Karting covers a wide range
of educational, academic,
technological, social and
sporting subjects. It provides
a tremendous stimulus to
all concerned. There is a
class to suit all budgets and
all levels of ability. Some
karts are totally school built,
whilst others can be bought
commercially. Running
costs are not high and TKT
provides an excellent path
for students wishing to
enter motor sports and all
other forms of automotive
engineering.
Students can join at the age
of 10 years, and can race
to 31st August after they
leave fulltime secondary
education.
The karts are being
constantly uprated, as the
drivers continue to improve
their skills, competitiveness
and success with
experience. However
the club needs funds
and isalways looking for
sponsors. If you would like
to sponsor a kart, please
contact the club.
The club meets every
term-time Wednesday night
at 7pm, in the technology
workshops at the back of
Tarporley High School,
and new recruits from 10-
18 years old are always
welcome. You dont even
need to own a kart the
club can supply everything
you need to go racing.

Q. I have been getting a lot of hairs on my legs
that are starting to grow under the skin. Why does
this happen and what can I do to prevent this from
occurring?
A. Ingrown hairs occur when the tip of the hair curls back or
grows sideways into the skin; they can occur in many areas
and are more common in individuals with thicker coarser hair.
Ingrown hairs can be caused by aggressive hair removal
techniques such as shaving or waxing but can also occur
from friction such as tight clothing or if too many dead skin
cells block the hair follicles. There is no cure for
ingrown hairs and you cant prevent them from
occurring altogether, but it is possible to decrease
the occurrence of them. You dont necessarily
have to give up your leg waxing - just follow our
top tips on how improve the condition by visiting

Q. As I am ageing I am starting to see
brown spots appearing on my face. What
can I do to prevent more from appearing?
A. These brown spots give an uneven skin tone
and give an ageing look to the skin. The condition
is known as hyperpigmentation and is the result of
an over production of melanin in the skin. You will
fnd that hyperpigmentation is worse on areas that
have been exposed more to the light and sunlight.
Check the difference in your skin on the inside
of your arms to the outside of them. The skin on
the inside will look younger and less pigmented
than that on the outside of your arms. The best
prevention of hyperpigmentation is always to wear
a good sunscreen whenever your skin is exposed
to light. There are also products on the market now
that will help to brighten the skin to give a more
even look to the complexion which can be helpful.
Remember, if you have any brown spots which
are unusual in any way, always visit a medical
practitioner.

community members had a Jubilee Street
Party to remember on the last day of half
term at Tarporley primary school.
Children from the Done Rooms pre-
school joined in the fun and then parents
and siblings came along for tea and cake.
Headteacher Kerry Forrester said: What
a fantastic way to end half term with all
the wonderful Jubilee celebrations we
had in school. The children took part in a
celebration assembly
followed by Jubilee
activities in the
classroom, followed by
a fantastic street party
style picnic. We were
truly blessed with the
weather. I would like to
thank all the parents who

Jubilee cakes and also
thanks to the staff and
members of the PTA who

Concrete jungle where dreams are made of
FIFTEEn students enjoyed a dance and drama-themed trip of a lifetime to new York last
month. The students, from years 8, 9 and 10, visited the big tourist attractions, including
the Rockefella Tower, Central Park, Times Square and Broadway, where they saw a
spectacular performance of Mary Poppins. Year 10 student Lizzie Grantham said: Taking
part in drama and dance workshops at the famous Ripley Grier studios, with professional
actors and dancers leading, was a valuable experience, which made us all think about
the way we perform and explore a play script and how we create a character through
movement, in more detail.

A DIAMOND Jubilee Path project for St
Albans Church, in Tattenhall, has been
awarded 5,200 from Cheshire West and
Chester Councils Rural Support Steering
Group.
There are two pathways to be upgraded
which begin from the main gates at Church
Bank, one leading up to the main entrance
of the church which will incorporate a new
stonework design to celebrate the Diamond
Jubilee year and the other pathway through
the churchyard which links up to a public
footpath at Chester Road will be refurbished
with a new levelled and gravelled surface.
Councillor Ralph Oultram, chairman of
the Steering Group, said: The new paths
will not only address the issue of access
improvements which are needed along
the churchyard path, but will also leave a
lasting legacy to commemorate the Queens
Diamond Jubilee.
Georgina Blackhurst, Project lead and
Churchwarden of St Albans Church said:
The majority use of the path through the
churchyard is for the public who have open
access through the churchyard at all times.
The surfacing on both paths is in poor repair
and has been a real concern to us.
Over the past few years St Albans
Church, in conjunction with The Friends of
St Albans, has worked extremely hard to
improve the amenity of our churchyard and
grounds.
The completion of the Jubilee path project
would be another step towards improving
the churchyard as a resource and open
space for the public to enjoy.
It is hoped that groundwork will begin in late
August or early September with completion
before the end of September.

SOME of the crimes reported to Cheshire Police over the past month include the
following:
l TWO parked cars in High Street, Tattenhall, had their windows smashed overnight on
Friday 8th June.
l THIEVES broke into an unlocked outbuilding to a property in High Street, Tattenhall,
and took electric tools from inside.
l A HOUSE on Bypass Road, Tarvin, was broken into and a watch was stolen.
l POLICE are hunting for fve men who were reported to be in the grounds of Drumlan
Hall Farm, Tattenhall. A red and white van was seen in the area and it is believed this
may have been used as a getaway vehicle.

at Tiverton Village Hall (just off the A49) at 8pm.
Everyone is welcome at our lively and friendly
meetings, and to the visits in the summer season.
Entrance fee is 1.50 (non-members 2) and includes

Eaton Rambling Club
Serving local villages. Why not keep ft & join the
expanding the club, which arranges walks of about
seven miles max length, on alternate Saturdays
& Sundays, once a month. We arrange monthly
evening walks of about three miles in summer, &
often arrange trips & social functions.Walks always
fnish at a convenient hostelry. Membership is 6
a year, & is open to anyone. Walks start from The
Jessie Hughes Village Hall at 10am, just turn up &

Peckforton and Beeston WI
Our Garden Party on 13th June was again held at the home of Libby Warriner who also prepared all
the savoury items together with a wonderful cake decorated in the form of a Union Jack in honour of
the Diamond Jubilee of the Queen. It turned out to be a truly memorable occasion because although
the day started of a little damp it improved as the morning went on and we had pre lunch drinks in
glorious sunshine. However, in a very short time it deteriorated into a full blown thunder storm from
which we sheltered in two marquees which our host had fortunately erected just in case. Our grateful
thanks go to Libby and her husband for all their eforts.
Our next event is our summer outing on 4th July to Plas Teg and Nantclwyd House in Wales and the
usual meeting at Peckforton Village Hall on 1st August at 7.30 pm when Christina Spencer will talk to
us about Living with 50 million foreigners.
Crickhowell was the venue for the four day walking holiday this year and reasonable, if changeable
weather, together with an excellent hotel resulted in a good time being had by all.
