Tucker Long English 3 AP Morrow 11/17/11 The Inconvenient Proof: Global Warming Is Not Happening Is this really happening?

Is our very own planet earth undergoing global warming with effects that could be more devastating on the world than any other climate change in history? In the beginning years of the era in which scientists and people believed in global warming, the theory that the Earths atmosphere is thinning and the temperature is rising due to greenhouse gas emissions has been neglected by politicians and many Americans, as well as being neglected in legislation. The movie An Inconvenient Truth summarizes and makes a solid argument that global warming is happening right now. But Al Gore leaves out the fact that in recent years the sun has released a great amount of solar flares in Earths direction, raising the temperature and thinning the uppermost atmospheric layer called the Exosphere. Also, the glaciers in the Arctic Circle and Antarctica have grown in size, starting to reform after several years of melting and breaking apart. Al Gore also brings up that the affect of our use of dirty fuels has caused the temperature to rise, but our pollution only accounts for a minute amount of the problem. The real problem is the solar flares coming off the sun cause an increase in temperature, and, every hundred-thousand years or so, the average temperature either becomes very low or very high. Because solar flares from the sun raise Earths temperature, because ice glaciers, in the past five years, have grown in size, and because humans are only

contributing a minute amount to the change in our worlds climate, global warming is indeed not occurring, unlike what Al Gore says. I believe the purpose of the movie The Inconvenient Truth is to warn and provide a portion of what there is to learn about climate change, and try and persuade the American people to believe that what Al Gore and environmentalists call global warming is really happening. The idea of investing money into alternative, clean fuels, such as wind and solar energy, as well as natural gas, has been heavily contested in Congress and between the bright minds of the American people. Is all the money the government and private investors are putting into developing clean fuels really going to give us a better, cleaner, more efficient world? Or is the money theyre putting into increasing the efficiency of clean fuels going to drive up the debt and go to waste? I believe the majority of the thinning of Earths atmosphere is due to the solar flares that shoot off the sun, and that our heavy use of dirty fuels, such as coal and gasoline, only amounts to a small percentage of the problem. But the problem of polar ice caps melting, the average temperatures of the worlds different continents increasing, and a decrease in the population of various animal species isnt as worry-some as an individual may think and believe. The polar ice caps in Antarctica and the Arctic Circle have grown in the size in the past four years by twenty-six percent! In early 2010, the US National Snow and Ice Data Center in Colorado reported a 409,000 square mile increase in the surface area of the polar ice caps in the Arctic Circle. In the winter of 2009-2010, Europe faced some of the fiercest snow storms in a very long time. Airports were shut down because the runways were glazed with ice and powdery snow, brought in by cold, moist air from

the north. But didnt we learn from Al Gore in the movie The Inconvenient Truth that most of the ice caps would have melted by now? Al Gore claims our dependency on dirty fuels to provide us with an efficient way to power objects, vehicles, and much more is causing temperatures to rise and ice caps to melt. He claims this is because the pollution given off by the dirty fuels clouds up Earths atmosphere and holds the infrared rays from the sun inside the furthest boundaries of the worlds bubble. There is another, more probable theory as to why Earths temperature is currently rising: solar flares, produced from large amounts of energy exuding from the suns surface, have caused the temperature to rise. Is this really happening? The idea of global warming has been long rejected by many and most, in both legislation and society. Global warming is quite an inaccurate term when used to described the current changes in Earths weather patterns and temperatures; the term climate change, however, is an accurate name. This period in earths history, this period of climate change, is caused by solar flares from the sun raising Earths temperature, because ice glaciers, in the past five years, have grown in size, and because humans are only contributing a minute amount to the change in our worlds climate, global warming is indeed not occurring, unlike what Al Gore says. But only the man upstairs knows the whole story behind the climate change we go through every once and while, and only he knows if global warming will become reality and shed its fable reputation.
