BiblescholarsoftheMiddleAgesdidnthavetheluxuryofalibraryfullofcommentaries.As
aresult,theydidextensivestudyintheBibleitself.Someoftheirwritings,likethoseofCalvin
and Luther, achieved immense success. Though not so widely known, other Reformation
writersalsofoundsignificantdoctrinalinsightsfromScripture.ThielemanvanBraght(the
greatAnabaptisttheologian)andMatthewHenry(aReformedtheologian)arequotedbelow.

toMoses,fromMosestoChrist,fromChristtotheendofthe
world, God ordained, for each of these periods, different
customs, as regards to the external divine service of this
church;alsodifferentsigns,seals,andappurtenances;though
itis,was,andshallbe,thesamechurch,thesamepeople,and
also the same God whom they served, still serve, and shall
serveuntotheend.

persecution of Antichrist, and there be fed by God, a

the apostles; or with the year 300, when the socalled
patriarchs had their origin; or with the year 600; or a little

the church of Christ, so that all who did not wish to be
