The skills of a competent professional are a prerequisite if organisations are to implement the principles and tools of quality effectively. The pathway to professional competence


The CQI provides a clear pathway to take you from your first experience of implementing quality tools and techniques, to becoming a Chartered Quality Professional able to provide strategic quality leadership at board level.

Which membership category supports your current role?


Student This membership level is for students in full- or part-time education studying for the CQI Diploma or Certificate in Quality, or another quality or business improvement related qualification. Associate (ACQI) This is for those who are employed and have a responsibility for quality as part of their job role. It is the ideal place to start on your journey to becoming a fully competent quality professional with a view to upgrading to Member or Fellow as you progress. Member, Chartered Quality Professional (MCQI CQP) This level is for those who are actively engaged in quality and business improvement in their job role and can demonstrate competence against the CQIs Body of Quality Knowledge. You can demonstrate your competence through the relevant qualifications or through appropriate experience and training. Fellow, Chartered Quality Professional (FCQI CQP) This is the highest grade of CQI membership. It requires extensive knowledge and experience of quality but also evidence of quality leadership through personal contribution to furthering the profession.

your routes to competence as a quality professional


Quality professionals are not born competent they have to learn. Quality is not a vague philosophy, it is a defined set of concepts, principles and tools: some hard tools, such as system design and data analysis, and some soft tools, such as facilitation and leadership. Some quality professionals gain these competences through experience, training and mentoring, and for others the CQI provides a clear pathway to learning via the knowledge and skills defined in the Body of Quality Knowledge.

CQI Training
Effective training changes our thinking and behaviour and provides us with the tools to create an environment where innovation and care can flourish. CQI Training offers a range of short training courses where you learn by doing. Our aim is to make learning a more effective and enjoyable process so further increasing the transfer of knowledge and skills from the training course to the workplace to achieve results. We provide public and in-house training in the UK and globally and our clients range in both sector, from EDF Energy to the United Nations, and geography, from Swansea Institute of Higher Education to the Botswana Bureau of Standards. Our in-house training service gives you the opportunity to create bespoke courses for your organisation and if you need help identifying your quality training needs, we can assess your requirements in relation to your business goals. We also offer the CQI Certificate of Training in Quality Management Practices: a way to get formal recognition for the knowledge and skills acquired by attending several courses in a related field. The certificate meets part of the requirements to apply for the CQI chartered membership grade MCQI CQP.

CQI Education
Thousands of quality professionals have achieved the CQIs qualifications. The CQI Diploma in Quality shows that you can professionally apply the full range of quality assurance and management skills. It shows you have a critical understanding of the key concepts, principles and practices and know how to apply them. And it shows you are able to offer creative solutions to quality challenges. The CQI Diploma meets the qualification requirements for chartered membership grade, MCQI CQP. The CQI Certificate in Quality gives you a solid start in appreciating and applying quality approaches. It will provide you with the language, statistical methodology and analytical skills used in quality and will help you understand your role in developing quality systems in your organisation. The CQI Certificate meets the qualification requirements for associate member, ACQI. The CQI is a nationally recognised awarding body accredited by Ofqual to provide modular qualifications, equivalent to NVQs, through CQI approved providers. Our qualifications support you on your path to competence, whatever your level of entry and are available by both distance and classroom-based learning.
