Five verses on the meditative approach to Non-duality following the unified path of Yogcra-Madhyamaka.
2007
Advayrthabhvankrama
Namo buddhya Verse One
prva skandheu nairtmya naisvbhvya ca bhyata / grhyagrhakayo nya tato jna ca bhvayet //
First contemplate the selflessness of the personal aggregates
Investigating the subjective sphere of the five aggregates, ascertain the absence of self within. Resting in that awareness, contemplate outer phenomena -
Verse Two
taj jna ca svaya uddham anutpannam anlayam / bhvayec ca tatas tattva niprapaca prabhsvaram //
That consciousness is itself pure, devoid of origin and abode,
Realize the total purity and essencelessness of the phenomena of mind itself - it has no origin, and it rests on no basis. Thus abandoning duality and selfgrasping, contemplate reality -
Verse Three
Verse Four
naivtra ca dvaya prpta ndvaya na dvaydvaya / nnyo naiva samo vpi dukhasynto'yam advaya //
Here no duality obtains, nor indeed does non-duality, nor any combination of the two. This is neither differentiated nor equal, it is the truly non-dual, the End of Sorrow.
The conventionalities of non-duality, and the duality it presupposes, does not obtain here. There is no division, no seperation or equality here. This is nonduality untouched by conception, the true End of Sorrow.
Conclusion
rutv vicrytha ca bhvayitv yog hi tattva pari~icinoti / nicitya tattva yuganaddharpa sa niprapace parame rameta //
Only after listening, reasoning and thence meditating the yog thoroughly ascertains the tattva - the Nature of Reality. Having gained certainty in the tattva in the form of Perfect Coalescence, he should duly come to peace in the ultimate nature of Non-elaboration.
Only the true practitioner, the yog, can approach and ascertain the nature of reality. He approaches it through the Threefold Wisdom of Learning, Reason and Meditation (rutamay-, cintmay- and bhvanmaypraj). Ascertainment destroys delusion, ignorance and self-clinging. Thence Reality dawns as the Perfect Coalescence of Emptiness-Awareness, and the yog comes to rest in Ultimate Non-elaboration.
Pondering the profound teachings of the Mahyna and the graduated path of meditation, these simple verses were written as an easy summary for students, and dedicated to most venerable Khenchen Konchog Gyaltsen Rinpoche with a prayer for his continued turning of the Wheel of Dharma.
