Invitation | The Academy 2012

Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) | Switzerland 26 to 30 October 2012

Aim and Background The basic aim of the Academy is to provide an integrated solution to training and sharing experiences in many aspects of Scouting and Guiding, and to give a holistic approach to development, concentrating on key aspects of the Regional Plans. In 2012, the Academy will specifically focus on Embracing Change, one of the three joint areas of work, as well as on development issues, including management of associations and personal development. The event will be modular to allow self-selection of a training schedule. Modules will be offered more than once and the event will enable participants to choose their own pace of learning. The programme will start on Thursday evening with an introductory session and continue until Monday evening. Participants profile Members of national boards or national strategy teams Those involved with management, representation, development Professional staff, individual experts and commissioners There is no age limit Multiple entries from associations are actively encouraged

Dates The Academy will be held from 26 to 30 October 2012. If participants wish to attend all possible sessions, they should arrive at the venue before 19:00 on 25 October 2012 and leave any time on 30 October 2012. Of course, participants may tailor their arrival and departures to a shorter period. Venue The Academy will take place at Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC), in Kandersteg, Switzerland. Programme The programme of the Academy is provided on the official Academy website http://academy.europak-online.net. A detailed description of each session, providing goals, objectives and expected outcomes, will be published on 1 August 2012. In addition to the sessions, the host team and KISC will offer various social and sportive activities, including official KISC activities. The participation fee includes one official KISC activity per day. Registration The online application form is available on the official Academy website http://academy.europak-online.net. It should be submitted by 31 July 2012. After the application deadline, the list of participants will be sent to International Commissioners for their approval. Travel arrangements Once participants have been selected and approved, they will receive acceptance letters by 20 August 2012. All participants should then make their own travel arrangements and, if necessary, obtain a visa. If you require an official invitation letter to obtain a visa, please indicate this clearly on your application form. Please be aware that it may take a significant amount of time to obtain a visa, so please send your visa form with the application form in order to allow sufficient time for visas. KISC may be one of the most prominent places in the Scout and Guide universe, but it is for sure not the most centrally located in the world. We want you to travel as safely, efficiently and cleverly as possible. To get there, we generally highly recommend travelling via Berne (please consider to fly directly to Berne Airport, which is the closest airport nearby Kandersteg). For more information about clever travelling, please consult http://academy.europak-online.net. Participation fee The participation fee amounts to CHF 96.- (Eur 80.-) per day. It covers accommodation and meals for 24 hours, programme materials and documentation, as well as one official KISC activity per day. The exact amount, which will depend on the duration of the stay, will be advised in a separate mailing. Bank details for paying the event participation fee will be indicated in the acceptance letter.
