CAT 2012 Exam Dates / Notification:Sale of CAT Vouchers:- Wednesday, 17 August 2011 - Monday, 26 September 2011 Registration for CAT 2012:- Wednesday, 17 August 2011 - Wednesday, 28 September 2011 CAT Test Dates:- Saturday, 22 October 2011 - Friday, 18 November 2011 CAT Result :- Wednesday 11 January 2012 CAT 2012-2013 Eligibility:The candidate must hold a Bachelors Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA)categories], awarded by any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the bachelors degree would be calculated based on the practice followed by the university/institution from where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case the candidates are awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of grades/CGPA to percentage of marks would be based on the procedure certified by the university/ institution from where they have obtained the bachelor's degree. In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidates CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result with 100. Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelors degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. IIMs may verify eligibility at various stages of the selection process, the details of which are provided at Selection Process of IIMs. CAT 2012 Paper Pattern:There will be some changes in the pattern of the CAT paper from 2011. CAT 2011 will have only two sections instead of the erstwhile three sections. The first section will focus on Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation; the second on Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. There will be total 60 questions in the paper, 30 in each section. The duration of CAT 2011 will be 140 minutes. Candidates will have 70 minutes to answer 30 questions within each section which will have an on-screen countdown timer. Within the 70 min provided for the section, candidates can review the answers. Once the time ends for the first section, they will move to the second section and will no longer be able to go back. A 15-minute tutorial will be provided before the start of the test, and candidates are advised to go through that carefully before starting the main examination. The total duration will be two hours and thirty five minutes including the tutorial. A practice test to provide candidates with a feel of the timed sections, as well as navigation and functionality of the actual test will be made available in the coming weeks. Once again candidates are advised to go though them carefully to familiarise themselves with the screens, layout, and navigation.

CAT 2013 Eligibility:The candidate should have a Bachelors Degree with at least 50 per cent marks or equivalent CGPA. For candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) candidates, the eligibility percentage is 45 percent. Candidates in the final year of graduation can also apply provided they can submit a certificate of their eligibility latest by June 30, 2012 from the Principal/Registrar of his or her college stating that the candidate has completed all the requirements of obtaining the Bachelors Degree on the date of the issue of the certificate. CAT Exam Preparation Tips / Tricks / Techniques:-

Concept learning:- Firstly, one needs to understand that the basic skills and areas assessed in the CAT will remain the same even if the CAT authorities have changed the test-taking mode of CAT to a computer based format. Make a list of all concepts that have been assessed in the previous CATs. Make a preliminary analysis of your strengths and weaknesses with regards to these concepts. Continue reading till the last day. Do not stop. Memory training exercises and playing Mind Training games like sudoku are particularly helpful in solving the analytical problems in a exam Like CAT that requires analytical and reasoning ability more than anything else. Focus on Grammar. The weight-age for the same is increasing day by day. For Quantitative Areas Questions focus on Geometry and Number systems. Number Systems have always been an important chapter from the point of view of CAT and Geometry has gained a lot over the last 2 years. The major implication of the CAT going online is that you would now need to get acclimatised to a computer-based testing environment.
